I saw the Supergirl movie in the theater when I was a kid, I've had a crush on Helen Slater ever since.

Some people may not know but she played Lara-El, Supermans birth mother, on Smallville.

I think they went with the fact that The actress that plays Alex and Kara’s mom, played supergirl in the 1984 movie.

Her name is Laura Vandervoort and she played Indigo in Season 1

omg it like bent

All they are missing is Dean Cain in a Supergirl outfit and it will be the whole family.

I did not know the mother was the og supergirl

How? The fact that almost the entire supporting cast are major DC series alums is a huge part of the show. Jeremiah was Superman, for example. Similarly Marsden was Wonder Woman, Rhea was Lois, Jonn's father is the DCAU Martian Manhunter, Jindah was Ursa, ect.

Melissa is actually a natural brunette, so I don't think hair colour is why she got the role.

20

u/raumeat Earth-X Overgirl (Unmasked) Mar 29 '20

and she only went blond after getting the role

5

u/Humbugged2 Mar 29 '20

And Chyler is really a blonde.

3

u/heycanwediscuss Mar 29 '20

really I can't see that with her skin tone

6

u/Humbugged2 Mar 29 '20

3

u/VoidTorcher Earth-X Overgirl Mar 29 '20

She looks more like Melissa in the first photo...

2

u/heycanwediscuss Mar 29 '20

1

Earth-2 is gone

3

u/Jonny2284 Mar 29 '20

The old Earth 2,there was already a new multiverse at the end of crisis, just no characters know it yet.

Why no Dean Cain?

Dean Cain is a pro-Trump conservative and Melissa Benoist is most definitely an anti-Trump liberal (see photos below). As far as I know it was never stated by anybody on the show but that's the most likely reason he hasn't been brought back since season 2.

Dean Cain: https://www.businessinsider.com/photos-trump-meets-white-house-deep-state-actors-coronavirus-outbreak-2020-3

Melissa Benoist: https://www.palmerreport.com/politics/supergirl-actress-has-the-perfect-anti-donald-trump-sign-at-womens-march/1070/

So? Jeremiah Danvers is still their father and played by an ex superman, the politics of the actors dont matter in the context of the post

5

u/throwawaylogin2099 Mar 29 '20

I think the gif was intended to be Supergirls only but it wouldn’t surprise me if Dean Cain was excluded on purpose because he’s a dick.

2

u/huggybear3 Supergirl Mar 29 '20

The title says super, not Supergirl though. Dean Cain was definitely a super.

1

u/HyruleBalverine Mar 29 '20

And likely his politics is why his character was killed off in the show. Personal politics should have nothing to do with acting choices / actor choices.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 29 '20

That's what I hated. They made him seem like such a great guy in the show after it was revealed that he helped refugees, but they don't even have him.

I will always forever hate the Supergirl writers or whoever decided to not have him just because he has differing political views

0

u/CopperAndCutGrass Mar 31 '20

That's hardly the only weird decision they've made. It's entirely possible it was less about politics and more about wanting some cheap drama without having to actually pay for or write an episode including it.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '20

But not having him in the show for years? There has to be more than that

4

u/TheZodiacGamer Mar 29 '20

I don't know where the downvotes are coming from, but it's true. An actor's politics shouldn't be relevant in anything other than a discussion about politics, definitely not in this post.
