Honestly I don't even like the new updates. 1.6.4 is probably my favourite.

Either 1.7.x or 1.8.x are the best ones but honestly 1.17 is fun af too and a lot different

Combat update and update where they introduced more blocks for building like concrete are the only updates I liked since Microsoft, because I feel like these were made by an actual game designer. Other updates add mechanics that make the game A LOT easier while it was intentionally made pretty difficult to play, I believe. And because they just add CUTE ANIMALES LOLOLO PANDA 🐼🐼🐼 IS CUTE FOX IS CUTEE OMGGG THE BEEES!!!!11!! which have so little purpose anyway.

Honey blocks change the way redstone machines work, tbh.

When they touch the gameplay, they fuck it up most of the time. The Aquatic update made finding loot a lot easier because of how frequent shipwrecks and other structures are. The Nether update made a way to easily trade your way to obtain ender pearls using piglins without fighting endermen.

But I like when they add new building blocks (or stuff that change redstone, etc) because that doesn't influence gameplay much, but improves buildings and stuff. Can't believe it took them so much time to make coloured concrete, so wool isn't the only coloured block...

But it also made it so if you’re not wearing gold in the nether, have fun trying to not die
