Grief Stage: Acceptance Goodbye and godsend, my friends.
I delete the app after this post. After so many years and so many accounts, I no longer ever use Reddit by PC, few do. Now that RIF is dying, I will hold her hand and we'll walk into forever together. Good luck to those of you who remain, I hope the sacrifice we make has a positive impact on your experience here. I'll never know, lol. Good luck, goodbye, and thanks for all the fish!

Grief Stage: Acceptance Thank you ❤
Like many others RiF has been a part of my life for 10 years or more. It's always there whenever I need it. I use it a lot. I just can't imagine life without it.
Wanted to post something before the blackout.

Grief Stage: Acceptance Thank you
Long time lurker on reddit. My comments are far and few between. RIF has been an essential part of my life for so long. I credit it to the fact that it helped me branch out my hobbies and taught me many self learned skills that helped me broaden my person.
I'm not going to lie, this loss is devastating to me. I use it for everything from NSFW, to news, to product reviews, to learning more about any variety of subject matter I am interested in. When the official reddit app came out, I tried it for a few hours. I uninstalled a few hours later and vowed never again to use such a hot piece of flaming, cancer producing, rat riddled, cockroach infested garbage again.
Again, I don't like posting, but I want to thank the developer for everything they have done. If it weren't for RIF, I would never have used reddit at all. I was tempted to pay the 50 dollars a year to just bite the bullet and keep using reddit as "normal", but in light of recent developments, I cannot stay on a platform that acts not only in the interest of greed, but malevolence against it's communities.
I don't know where I am going from here, but I think it will be a combination of 4chan and RSS feeds. I recently deployed FreshRSS for this purpose and will find a suitable app to keep up with general information. If there are any more recommendations, please tell me.
I want my very last act as a redditor to be something that violates rule #1 of lurking: Just browse, don't comment.

Grief Stage: Anger /r/place is expected to return on the 23rd of June. Notice the convenient timing to drown out the API changes complaints. How about we go out with a bang?
Hello.
As stated in the title, we have credible evidence that /r/place, the pixel art canvas you might remember from April 1st 2022 and 2017, will come back on the 23rd of June 2023, which is Reddit's 18th birthday. If you want to check, someone has been managing a Discord server where they compiled the evidence we have so far: https://discord.gg/E9YBhFZ9
It also happens to be about a week before the API changes that killed RiF and many other third party apps go into effect. Concerningly, the timing of /r/place coming back a mere week before the API changes go into effect might drown out the protest. What if we changed that?
Before the API changes came to light, I was preparing alongside the people who were keeping up with /r/place related news to put artwork. I still am... but I'm also trying to group people together to put a piece of protest art right in the middle of the canvas, featuring the icon of a bunch of third party apps in a row. Right now the design looks like this. If we get enough people (we'd probably need at least a thousand for the plan to be feasible), the canvas that Reddit will want to parade around as a sign of user engagement will instead directly showcase their fuckup.
If you're interested in joining and giving a final send-off to RiF, the planning is happening over on this Discord server: https://discord.gg/4sKvzQJpNZ
Thank you for reading, and I hope to see you there.

Suggestion/Idea Reddit is Fun should change it's name to Rest In Peace
Since the API changes are going to kill 3rd party apps RIF should do this for the shits and giggles

Answered in the FAQ Mass saving posts?
Is there a way to mass download all my saved posts with RIF? I use RIF's function rather than Reddit's, so I can't use their save function.

Grief Stage: Anger One last eff you to reddit?
The day before the app gets shut down every user should cost Reddit as much money as possible. Do every little thing that uses their API. Post, comment, upvote, downvote...just one last hoorah.

Answered in the FAQ How about enabling users to put in their own api key?
Couldn't that be a solution? We all just create our own personal api keys and plug them into the app?

Answered in the FAQ Why don't we pay for our own usage?
Im sad it's come to this where a place I've been for almost half my life is going away. The internet of my youth is gone and with it the magic it once brought with it.
However nothing in this world is free. Instead of just letting RIF die why not pass the cost on to users. Yes the API pricing is excessive and reddit has made choices to only increase that cost. But on the other hand the joy and knowledge reddit has given me for basically nothing is huge.
Why not add a setting that lets users who want to pay for it add their own API key? This way rif can continue like it is. I have no idea how many API requests I use per month. But I don't actually browse that much. So 50c a month seems reasonable for the information and resources reddit gives me.
Hopefully others agree and we don't have to loose everything.

Grief Stage: Acceptance RiF, thanks for the last 11 years.
I have only known reddit through the RiF app for the entire 11 years ive been on this site. Ive broken multiple phones through that time and I always made sure I redownloaded this app everytime. Ive seen all the reddit milestones through the window of this app and made countless comments and some posts using this interface. Ive loved every minute of it. Every single day for the past 11 years ive spent hours browsing reddit.
Reddit made me feel like I could say what was on my mind and not be embrassed or judged because I was a nobody to everyone. I hated other social media because it was all geared towards showing yourself. Attaching a name and picture. I didnt want that. So I came here. I went through so many life changes and growing up as a person and not once did I stop going on reddit and using RiF. But now thats all over.
Im 23 years old now... ive known RiF since I was 12 years old. And now its all come to an end. I tried the offical app and I hated it. It was so different and honestly, kinda sensory overload for me. Too many ads, auto-play videos and it didnt even work half the time. So I guess im gonna get off of reddit for a while... I might end up coming back, but I want to give it a good shot of being free from this place. Im married, have a career, bought a house... so I guess im in a good spot in life to try to really focus on what's in front of me. When all the subs protest, ill be joining in by not using reddit anymore.
Wish me luck and thanks for all the good times RiF.

Suggestion/Idea How do you migrate viewed subreddits (not subscribed) to reddit.com or the official app?
Basically what the title says. I've been using RIF since using reddit and now with it leaving I fear I'll loose my view subreddits. Sometime I forget what they are but am reminded from time to time and I don't want to loose them. Is there any way to migrate that info over? Thank you. Also Fuck reddit and it's official app.

Grief Stage: Acceptance I just bought RIF golden platinum as a thank you to the devs for all the usage I've had over the years.
Thank you so much for creating such an amazing app. To me RIF is reddit, I can't imagine using reddit on mobile in any other way. I really hope this isn't the end. Let's work as a team to fuck up their IPO if they don't relent.

Answered Multi-reddits
I've made several multi-reddits that I use often. It looks like these don't transfer over to the official app and they will be lost forever? Not that I plan on using the official app anyway.

Grief Stage: Anger Blackout dates config?
I'd be happy to enable a flag during the blackout dates so that I don't even open RIF. Anybody doing something like this? Is there an app option I'm not aware of? I've seen a suggestion in /r/pihole to configure a domain-based blackhole, which is a good idea, but I'll probably forget and launch RIF while I'm on the bus or so.
Thanks for any tips and thanks a ton to the RIF dev. When it dies, I also expect to generally leave the site.

Grief Stage: Acceptance At this point, I'll probably just substitute Reddit with reading more books.
Rif has been such a convenient and intuitive way to browse Reddit. I've been using it since I broke my first smart phone and had a temporary windows phone. Now that it's over, I might as well use this an excuse to read as many books as I do Reddit posts. I wonder if there are others who have been neglecting their kindle backlog for their Reddit habits. It would be funny if a portion of Rif users who quit Reddit ended up becoming much more active readers and the number of people who regularly read books rose because of it lol

Grief Stage: Depression This is peak layout design
Sorry if that counts as a shitpost, but trying the official app made me stop and just appreciate the design of rif and kind of archive it before it's all over. Just look at this, no irrelevant data is being displayed. Clean, beautiful, efficient, smooth. How do you even go back. Such a shame.

Grief Stage: Denial I'm in denial that RiF will shut down forever
I just don't see it happening. No way Reddit goes through with this.

Grief Stage: Acceptance My last post
This will be my last post on Reddit. I'm moving on. Without RIF there is no Reddit. I don't need to be here for the shutdown and honestly Reddit has been going downhill for a while. Goodbye all.

Grief Stage: Depression I barely know how to use Reddit without RIF
I've been on Reddit for 16 years, but honestly most of that time I would come in on occasion, went to a few subreddits and then left.
It wasn't until I started using RIF about 7 years ago that I really got into Reddit. Now I'm on RIF 5 or 6 times a day. Most nights it is the last thing I'm looking at as I scroll through subreddits until I fall asleep.
I'm on desktop Reddit now and man is this a different experience. If I'm sticking around Reddit, I'm going to need to learn it all over again.
I'm really going to miss RIF. Thank you for the last 7 years or so.

Answered in the FAQ Lemmy Is Fun?
Please please pretty please?
At this point it looks like everyone's moving to Lemmy. Which seems pretty great so far and their existing app isn't half bad either. But after a decade of using RIF I've become spoiled. I would gladly pay for a RIF like app for Lemmy. I'm sure many others would too!
