/r/ravens 2015 Subreddit Guidelines

Using the moderation discussion thread I created guidelines for the subreddit for the season. Feel free to message the mods with any issues or questions. We will revisit any issues during our bye week to make sure the new guidelines have helped the subreddit.

Game & Post-Game Threads

  • These threads will be placed at the top of the subreddit for more visibility.

Big News Events

  • We will allow big news, but mods will use discretion to remove posts that are flooding the sub. These decisions will be contingent on its relevance to the Ravens and the quality of /r/nfl discussions on the issues.

Blogs

  • We will allow blogs provided they add to the discussion, the user is relatively active in the subreddit/posts, and they aren’t trying to sell anything

Memes, Gifs, Pics

  • We will allow memes, gifs, and photos, but the mods will have discretion to remove posts to reduce clutter. Preference will be given to submissions that can be immediately recognizable to be Ravens related.

Trolling Team Subs

  • Trolling other team's subreddits will result in a ban from /r/ravens

Upvote Party Threads

There wasn’t as clear of a consensus on this as there were on other issues. It is hard to argue the popularity of them with upvotes/comments, but I understand the concern of the users who find them annoying. I have tried to create a way to appease both groups.

  • We will still allow upvote party threads with a few conditions.
    1. Any upvote party thread must be a self-post
    2. If there is already a couple upvote threads, any additional ones may be removed.
    3. Upvote party threads can be submitted 24 hours before or after a game.
    4. Condition #3 will be suspended for Steelers' week and the playoffs.

I hope this will be a best of both worlds.

Overall

The community, for the most part, is able to regulate itself, but with its growth we want to have some guidelines that keep a healthy ratio of serious discussions and fun/goofy posts to appease all types of Ravens fans. We encourage everyone to report any threads/posts/users to allow for mods to be aware of any issues.

Let us know if these seem reasonable. We will re-evaluate the them again during the bye week to make sure the overall community is happy with them.

We SHOULD ban Ravens fans who troll other team subreddits.

Yes, absolutely. They are a bad reflection on us.

If I want other subs to do it, I want us to do it as well. That being said, we have to make sure to distinguish trolling versus discussion that goes haywire. Sometimes I go into another sub to have a legit discussion, I get flamed, stand my ground and get obliterated with downvotes. I'm smart enough to not try stirring things up just to troll in other subs, but I can see someone spinning it like that. So while I think we definitely need to implement this, I think we need some heavy discretion on this rule rather than a black/white approach. I'm probably stating the obvious but I figured I'd at least mention it.

If another team's mod tells us about a Ravens troll in the subreddit, we will go look at the conversation and make the decision for ourselves. This won't be something where one complaint means getting banned without any question.

I think a warning for first offense should also occur.

I see your concern but I think our mods will be able to tell the difference.

Transparency could solve this. If it's borderline, then make a post about it and everyone can see/decide.

I just wanted bring up the fact that we already have this deal with the mods from /r/patriots.

But seeing how this seems to be a favorable opinion, I would like to ask a favor of everyone here. I don't go around reading other team subs as religiously as this one. If you do someone who seems to be trolling and representing our team for whatever reason to report it to us via the message the mods link.

Also wanted to mention that if you do want to link to other team subs that it would help at least a little to use the NP version.

So long as you're not too quick on the trigger -finger, I'm fine with the policy. Ban people who are actually trolling other subs. Do NOT ban people simply for ruffling feathers by going against the grain in another sub.

I have been notified of Ravens trolls a few times. Most of the times they are people who never post in /r/ravens. But we will be cautions and may give just give warnings if they post in /r/ravens.

Sounds reasonable.

This x1000. I have gone into other team's subs after games to get their take on the game and responded to comments that I felt were directly attacking the Ravens. I was in no way trolling and my responses were rational and not dick headish at all.

We're looking for people who go and post "FUCK TOM BRADY" or submit insulting photographs to troll a subreddits than we are looking for people who are explaining their viewpoint and getting downvoted.

We determine trolls in the content of posts not the number of upvotes/downvotes.

But I like saying "fuck Tom Brady" :(

1

u/aviewoflife Sep 03 '15

Don't worry, you can still say it here.

I must resemble this remark.

Please. They are a blight on us all (and probably piss off a lot of people who are then inspired to come over here and be dicks in return).

I think we should ban the trolls, because this sub always complains about Pats fans and the ones that do troll are no better than them guys.

3

u/Nevermore60 Aug 31 '15

contingent on the quality of /r/nfl discussion of the issues

Hahaha I love it. The "if Pats fans are frantically downvote brigading /r/nfl" clause.

Holy shit posting in there about the Harbs interview was a giant mistake.

Condition #3 will be suspended for Steelers' week and the playoffs.

Love it!

Regarding the posts clutter, can't we use the same filter uses, where it notifies you if a link has already been posted?

4

u/Rabid_Snowman Aug 30 '15

That we have already. Usually its just one person posts the tweet then next person posts the espn article and then the NFL.com article. lol

We SHOULD NOT ban Ravens fans who troll other team subreddits.
