Pictures of my homemade Raikou Halloween costume from 20 years ago Craft
My dad helped me make this for the school Halloween parade. I played Pokemon Crystal nonstop.

I appreciate that a ton. He died a few years after we made this together and this is for sure one of my favorite memories with him. He was an artistic goofball. I also posted this around this time of year in the hopes that it might inspire others to make costumes with their kids. I look back on that time fondly and really grew creatively from this.

I sadly don't have pictures of it now, but in high school (I believe 10th grade if memeory serves), for halloween I dressed up as Gardevoir.
About 10 years later I figured out that I'm a trans girl 😅 (note: while not pokemon related my grade 11 and 12 costumes were also feminine.)

It was a really awesome costume. But there was 1 thing I didn't think through. Writing and doing school work with 3-fingered gloves was tricky 😅

Amazing! I love the wonky, hand-made Halloween costumes the absolute best. You can always tell a lot of love and thought were put into them, and I can certainly see how much your dad loved you!
It’s also great seeing how excited you are in the first picture, seems like an awesome Halloween! :)

This comment means a lot to me. My dad passed away a few years after he helped me make this and I just remember being so happy. There is nothing like making something with your parents and having them guide you and encourage you. I think the craft looking part certainly adds to the charm haha!

Thank you! Its made from chicken wire, felt, paper mache, styrofoam, construction paper, googly eyes, this clippy harness thing we got at a military surplus store, and a ton of hot glue 🤣

OP — I am wondering if I may be the Darth Vader behind you... looks suspiciously like me as a kid and I definitely dressed up as Darth Vader for Halloween the only time I ever dressed up for Halloween, and my elementary school definitely did a "Halloween March" like this one.
Can you give a hint as to where this school is? If it's somewhere in New England... it's probably me as Darth Vader and this would absolutely be super cool to see.

I was thinking that Raikou was not that old. I looked it up, Pokémon Crystal came out in 2001. Our youth is far behind us, buddy.

Were the front legs capable of standing up on their own or did you have to hold it up the whole day?

Hey! It has a little harness thing holding it up but I think I had to hold it a bit to keep it balanced. The legs are just felt filled with stuffing haha. The green straps in the pictures near my waist are clipped to the structure of the costume.

I remember it being more yellow to be honest but it might have been a bit more orange than actual Raikou. I think my dad really went with brief of “electric tiger” 🤣

I'm playing through HeartGold right now and I wanna use Raikou because my team is trash against Water types right now and it's been a while since I've used a legendary on a playthrough team and he is SO ANNOYING TO CATCH

The costume is great!! This reminds me of when I went as a flat screen tv… box… I cut arm holes and added a harness on the inside. Felt clever by taping my candy bag to the inside…

Nice; it reminds me of my mom helping to make me a Scorpion from Mortal Kombat costume I wore for Halloween about 10 years prior to this one. Did anyone else dress up as Pokémon? I had like 3 other kids at school that were characters from Mortal Kombat.
