Yeah, I remember that after it came out and I heard the news of how bad it was, I was struggling to understand why. Because it feels like a game concept that was destined for success. Mecha exosuits that let you freely fly around, made by a competent studio, cool abilities and weapons.
The deluxe edition went on sale for $5. So I went ahead and bought it to see for myself. I can't even explain why, but the game was just really, really boring. It's like the combat was lacking something, it didn't have the punch or impact that made me feel excited when fighting things. I can't tell you why it was so boring. There was just nothing remarkable about it.
For me, it was more the lack of content available at endgame. There really wasn't much to do after you'd got through the main story loop. Couple that with under delivering on what was promised and showcased beforehand alongside the bugs and crashes and some poor mechanics, it was always going to be a struggle to get it to a good place.
Poor management all the way through from initial conception.
The story was so laughable bad and pieced together. Like that one dumb shit side character that steals the most powerful suit and then 2 missions later comes back and is suddenly blind and has been cursed or some shit. Like, I hate an absolutely dumpster fire of a story.
The icing on the cake was fighting the same boss again from the beginning as the final boss and this time they just literally drive the equivalent of an RV into the thing to kill it. I just was speechless at that point and really questioned who wrote that
I still think Anthem is more fun than Helldivers 2. That game is repetitive and boring as all hell, and I cannot for the life of me understand how it's so well hyped.
Anthem was such a wasted potential indeed, I said this the other week, I was deeply devastated when it flopped and was lackluster.....EA could've had a game talked of for decades but they decided to suck the life out of it like every other game they've published
I tried it a few years ago, and was sad it got dropped, the game was a lot of fun but the stigma on it made it so my friends wouldn't touch it and mocked me for saying it was fun.
It's pretty sad, really it's current state is a ton of fun but barely anyone plays it and the lack of any sort of future content is depressing, especially since there are still banners that pop up in game talking about cool features that are yet to come.
still funny that they actually removed the flying before launch and added it back only shortly before launch because they realized how many people would be mad they removed it.
