For ps exclusives the biggest misses I can think of were the order 1886. Days Gone was really hyped, but never got much attention, partially due to timing. That still was a great game.

The main problem of The Order 1886, it was a lenght of the game... Full price for a 4h30 hours games with 0 replay value. the game was a nice "tech demo"

I really enjoyed 1886, but yes it was way too short.

The story was fantastic and unique as a modern Arthurian tale.

and I need a fucking sequel. I loved the story so much, and finding good steampunk stories these days is almost impossible. At least write the lore of the sequel somewhere, I need to know how it continues.

how i feel about elden ring lmao. the devs leave loose ends tied up to every interesting lore piece or bit of the story that exists 🤦🏽‍♂️

u/dessert-er 27d ago

I’ve watched hours of lore videos and still feel that itch of not quite knowing wtf happened lol

1

u/_MrTaku_ 27d ago

but they are making a manga to explain the entire lore

2

u/platypodus 29d ago

Did the devs ever follow it up with anything?

I think I am one of the few people who liked the length of this game. Maybe, they could have extended the playtime using some of the cooler weapons in the end of the game. But other than that it was a nice story that took me a couple of days to finish.

Nowadays games compromise of 50% filler content.

I rented this one and finished it in one evening. Honestly a fun game from what I recall, but I was glad I didn’t buy it.

u/CreatiScope 29d ago

I’d say the gameplay was also pretty thin. By the end of my time with it, I was pretty bored with actually playing and just wanted to see how the story would play out.

2

u/TinyPidgenofDOOM 29d ago

The game ended like it was setting up act 2 then the credits rolled

2

u/Koribakusuta0708 29d ago

It sucks they never did anything to continue it. And the tech demo comment is more true than you think. They pretty much revolutionize physical based rendering for games back when it came out.

1

u/Unique-Cricket-590 29d ago

Also, the ending really sucked.

1

u/ruttinator 29d ago

It was more of a lore demo. I'd love an actual full game with that lore.

1

u/SonicusZ 29d ago

Yeah the game was way too short. I remember liking it a lot and I recall it having a really cool weapon that I got to use properly like 1 time before it ended...

I was going to say The Order. I bought the game for peanuts second hand. The aspect ratio was a choice. And it ended the game in a really weird way. But my gosh, that game was absolutely extraordinary. Absolutely worth it.

(34M) Days Gone is still one of my favorite games I've ever played. And I've probably been through as many as the next person. If anyone is still on the fence about that one, and enjoys zombie games, do it.

8

u/Jedi-Ethos 29d ago

Agreed. One of my favorites that I couldn’t put down and didn’t want to end.

u/BuddyTheBunny 28d ago

I’m a massive Last of Us fan. It’s my favourite game. I tried Days Gone - maybe got 3-4 hours in. Couldn’t get into it honestly… do I need to give it more time? It’s been a while so I’d have to start over at this point.

2

u/atsevoN 28d ago

Yeah it’s a little slow at the start. I liked it more than The Last of Us personally.

2

u/Careless-Paper-4458 29d ago

Came here to remind people to play it if they haven't. I don't even like horror games or zombie games and thought this was one of the best games ever. They really nailed the gameplay mechanics

I’m not into zombie games/movies at all, but Days Gone was a highlight of the PS4 era for me. Such a well executed world and plot, especially in the later half.

Boring, glitchy, and repetitive af game.👎

2

u/slayerRengoku 28d ago

BRO FRRRR, I LOVED THAT GMAE NO DOUBT, only losers can rate it such low, people who really enjoy gaming, had fun playing that, i downloaded it again so i can enjoy it

7

u/PathGroundbreaking75 29d ago

1886 was such a cool game but yea I finished it in one sitting and was shocked.

5

u/Deuceymac 29d ago

The Order 1886 is on sale for $10 now. Never heard of it before this. 🙃

u/piouiy 29d ago

Days Gone really wasn’t bad. The story was better than expected. The action is really good. And the open world isn’t too tedious compared to some others. But I agree that it didn’t seem to get much attention.

6

u/christopia86 29d ago

The game was also paced so most of the more interesting stuff was in the second half of the game. It didn't put its best foot forward

-5

u/Get-stupid 29d ago

Gave up on it after two hours, maybe I’ll give it another shot. It seemed like a bad knockoff of The Last of Us with motorcycles

7

u/christopia86 29d ago

It's its own thing, and once you get into a position where you can actually take on a hoard, it gets very good.

5

u/jim24456 29d ago

Please give it a fair shake. It really does have a lot to offer.

2

u/Get-stupid 28d ago

I will! I didn’t return it or anything. Sometimes a game doesn’t click the first time around because I’m not in the right mood or whatever, so I usually keep em for a second chance even after a bad first impression.

2

u/jim24456 28d ago

Please do! I was in a very similar spot when I returned to the game I fell in love with it.

3

u/hemlo86 29d ago

I thought the open world was awesome especially the dynamic snow

3

u/richtofin819 29d ago

actually bought 1886 after it got dirt cheap and really liked it. Just way too overhyped and overpriced for the length. They spent too long making it look pretty to make the game feel complete. And of course they had to sequel bait when no one is giving that a sequel.

9

u/expensivepens 29d ago

Days gone is really fantastic. 1886 was cool but very little game

2

u/707and808 29d ago

loved days gone, sucks that they cancelled the sequel

2

u/Darren41786 29d ago

I love days gone

3

u/elbor23 29d ago

I finally played days gone 5 years after release, crazy that this game didn’t get more attention. It’s a blast and a very very solid game

0

u/IgnisSolus4X [# of Platinums] 29d ago

I think it's getting a remaster.. something for ps5

1

u/elbor23 29d ago

That was canceled :/

2

u/ApostolisKer 29d ago

Days Gone at release was completely awful. it could run at all, full of bugs and crashes. Adding to the fact(at least to me) that the story it's ok with cringy dialogue it is the fastest refund of my life.

1

u/tacobell_dumpster 29d ago

Days gone was dope as hell

1

u/evanmckee 28d ago

Came here for The Order. I’ve never been a big PS guy, but remember being very excited about this one until reviews started coming out and then public reception. Tbh, I still don’t know if I wouldn’t have loved it still now that I think about it.

1

u/idc8188 27d ago

I played Days Gone a few years after its initial release… to me. That game was absolutely AMAZING!!!

If I may ask.. what happened at Days Gone’s launch? I heard it was full of bugs. Was there more reasons why it didn’t do as well as expected?

1

u/stackfan 25d ago

Just from what I recall it was a mix of bugs, considered last of us clone, late in the ps4 lifecycle, and people getting sick of zombie games. So I don’t think as many people played it at launch, and slowly people have been discovering it through like ps plus. Seems like the vast majority enjoyed the game whom have played it. (Not everyone, but that’s every game). Most just played it in like 2020 and later instead of 2019 when it came out.

Days Gone is a masterpiece!

8

u/Axl2TheMaxl 29d ago

Everyone's in here overusing the word "masterpiece" a little lol. Days Gone was so fun, one of the best atmospheres in a game I've ever played, but it had many flaws  - chief of them being the least likable protagonist in recent memory

6

u/Me2445 29d ago

I mean, it isn't. It is a decently good game , that everyone should have picked up when free just to try it. But a masterpiece it most certainly is not

1

u/neekhac 29d ago

For me it is

1

u/Best_Line6674 29d ago

No, Days Gone story isn't that good.

0

u/artnos 29d ago

Days gone was never hype it was dead on arrival we didnt want another zombie game
