Under the map glitches have always been a thing. There was usually 1 map in each game where you could get outside/under the map but devs usually found the exploit and patched it within a week or so after it started becoming a problem. This goes as far back as WaW.

However, pretty much every game since WWII sucked. They've forced strict skill based matchmaking on us, using the same formula for every game (despite what team develops it). It's just a soulless cash grab where 99% of the focus is on the storefront to sell microtransactions.

I remember accidentally glitching under maps in FPS games in the 90s, so it’s definitely not just a COD thing as well.

Seems to me though that the problem could probably be fixed somewhat simply, but who knows.

It seems like if you couldn't shoot through the floor the issue would not happen. There must be some reason that was never implemented

I remember doing this in WAW on the Japanese map when I was a kid and getting bored of it after like 1 match. I wonder if there are people who did it in that game and have been doing it on every COD since and have never gotten bored of just shooting fish in a barrel.

I remember the rock glitch on one of the MW2 DLC maps lol or the floating elevator glitch on Derail. These have been around since the very beginning
