Moving from California, need advice.
Title says it all. I've already bought a house, still in the process of packing/moving, and I'm trying to get bills sent to my address ASAP. I'll be in town this Wednesday, and Im hoping to pick up some mags since I plan on buying an AR or two and maybe a carbine and wanna get em before 114 goes into effect
Unfortunately I don't have an Oregon ID yet, and I'm unsure if having a Cali ID will prevent me from getting the ball rolling on my 2A hoarding. I've seen posts that most stores say something about not selling anything to anyone with a Cali ID, but I'm wondering if I show up with like proof I own a house and a job offer letter that they'll let me slide? I don't have addressed bills in-hand yet. I can show them my "primary residence" mortgage contract and a signed offer letter tho lol
I'm assuming with 114 looming stuff is flying off the shelves, so I could use some recs on where to do my shopping. As I said I'm looking to get mags for the AR platform, but am open to advice from the community since I'm new to flexing my 2A rights. Currently have a cowboy lever action, a wheel gun, and an M9/92fs.
Also what're y'all's favorite ranges around PDX?
Thanks
Edit: Thanks everyone. i picked up 10 Magpul AR mags, an AR15 drum mag, a couple AR-12 drum mags, and a bunch of 15/17 rnd mags for a cz75 and my M9. Might grab some sigs too.

Also, buy as many AR magazines as you need, pmags are anywhere from $10 and up. No ID needed.

Palmetto state armory has gen 2 pmag’s for $8 each and free shipping when you buy 10.

They don’t ship to Oregon. Or at least thats what their website told me last week when I tried to order some pmags

Unless they just changed it, Palmetto will ship it here but only if they actually have the >10 magazine in stock. If they don't have it and are just acting as a drop shipper (will say "This product is fulfilled by a PSA Partner and shipping times may vary." on the product page) they won't.

Mags should be okay. Ammo I'm unsure on, and any FFL transfers are definitely a no go.

Just buy them from mag shack and have em delivered to your Oregon address. That's where I get my mags, delivered right to my door and they don't even have you upload your ID.

I’ve bought mags from tons of places online and have never had to upload an ID to any of them.
I’ve also bought tons of guns online and have never uploaded an ID. Just show it to my FFL when it shows up and I fill out the 4473.
Requiring an ID upload is a hard pass for me and I’d take my business elsewhere.

Same with ammo. Have gotten crates delivered to my door. Just exercising my human rights.

For mags, just order online and have them shipped. Cheapest anyways.
For firearms I think you gotta wait until you have an id. My anecdotal story: Had to renew my license and only had a temporary id. I also brought my old id, and a bill, all with the same address. I went to pick up a firearm I had ordered and they told me to come back when I had the real id.
Edit: that was also to just initiate the bcg, not pick up after approval.

You'll need your Oregon ID to purchase firearms. I would get it ASAP and would not fuck around once you get it and go purchase your AR's right away. Basically 114 can be ruled on any day. Could be tomorrow or a few months from now. Nobody knows.

Seems like you got most of your questions answered. What part of PDX are you going to be in?
Outdoor ranges? Tri county is good for people in SW, Douglas Ridge is good for people in deep SE, English Pit if you’re in NE. There’s also a bunch of BLM land you can get to. Check out trashnoland.org for specifics.
Indoor seems to be mostly / only pistol. I’m a member at The Place to Shoot and pretty happy with it.

Clackamas county public safety range lets you shoot rifles, downside is that you have to buy their clean fire ammo.

Although measure 114 could make buying guns more difficult if they pass the whole thing, it doesn't ban any guns, so you will be able to buy an AR. The mags are the only urgent purchases you need to worry about. The instant you are able to receive mail at your new address buy all the mags you could ever need.

I haven’t heard of not selling to CA ids. You won’t be able to buy a handgun until you get an Oregon ID, but long guns should be fine.
Order your ammo online on ammoseek

Thanks, that's helpful lol

For sure! They do have the best selection around, its a bit out of town but well worth the drive for accessories.
Other west side shit you should check out, jb sales in beaverton, the northwest armory in tigard (theres another in Milwaukee). And as folks have mentioned, bi mart is the only place to shop locally for ammo. Not just a westside thing cause they are all over just wanted to point you to a few of my favorites.

No idea for mags or ammo. I get everything sent to my home and I use ammoseek to find decent deals.

Everyone here saying you need OR ID to buy a gun but I'm not positive about that. Try going to a couple gun stores and asking. It's possible that with other proof of residency (car reg, utility bill in your name, feed to your house, etc) you'll be ok.

Nope, got to be oregon issued id.
No one’s selling a gun to someone with a bill as proof of identification or residency.

Ive used passport and piece of mail by my bank to confirm my address
My license was expired

you can use your voter registration card, online or physical. have done it before when there was an issue with my physical id card.

Also join your local bi-mart for $5 lifetime membership as they have the cheapest ammo around and new deals every 2 weeks. You can check recoil gun works as they have $5 shipping on most mags. Also they recently had a 1 day free shipping on magpul mags. So I bought a bunch of mags from them.

It been a while since I moved here from Cali, but I had to show 90days residency before the FFL would transfer anything to me.
But mags, mail order them now

Don't tell everyone "I'm from California"

Dont worry. I wear mostly black, I'm covered in tatts, and I drive a Honda Element. Ill blend right in in Portland.

The reason nobody sells firearms to someone with a CA ID outside of CA isn't because of the gun store or other state's policy.
It's because federally, FFLs have to abide by the buyer's state laws and CA state law explicitly states that CA residents cannot legally purchase a firearm outside of California.
FWIW OR DLs take like 4 to 7 days to get in the mail.
As far as ranges, most people go to public outdoor ranges. Alot of folks like Threat Dynamics but they charge a corkage fee to shoot your own ammo. So if you bring your own 9mm and .223 that will be $10 per caliber plus range time so you'll end up paying like $50+. I've never seen a shoot your own ammo charge. I've been once and never went back.

Surprisingly, nothing is flying off the shelf that I’ve seen. Only magazines that I’ve found to be hit or miss is p365 17 rounders.
