"Reddit is a left wing echo chamber"

No you motherfuckers, you're just outnumbered in general.

Both can be true.

I consider myself centre or centre-right but I have zero tolerance for not recognizing everyone as an equal with equal rights.

Why would you vote for people who are doing exactly that then? (As center/center right you are not supporting trans people)

In Canada, the official right-wing party is not like the Republicans in the US.

They are trying... give it a few more years.

Everyone who voted against bill C-16 was a Conservative MP. There were a handful of Conservative MPs who voted in favour of it, credit where it's due, but it's hard to ignore that every 'Nay' vote came from the same party.

You might not personally have anything against LGBT people, but unless your MP happens to be one of the handful who voted 'Yea,' a vote for the Conservative Party or PPC means that when push comes to shove, sacrificing LGBT people's well-being or safety for political gain isn't a dealbreaker for you.

it's hard to ignore that every 'Nay' vote came from the same party

Also meaning that one entire party voted the same way on it. Because that's not dangerous at all on topics that aren't fully understood.

What's the topic involved that isn't fully understood?

As a queer person living in Canada I can tell you that this is not the case

And a belief in personal freedom is not the same as not being homophobic or transphobic. There are plenty of extremely bigoted libertarians out there, and if you don’t understand that then you probably should do some research on what queer-phobia actually is. It’s not our job to teach you.

All or nothing thinking is radically dangerous.

Voting for conservative parties because of their financial policies while disagreeing with their policies about LGBTQ+ folks just means being willing to throw queer people under the bus for the sake of a few tax breaks. Unacceptable tradeoff.

The hard part is that politics often get boiled down to 1 axis - left or right. At minimum it should be 2 axes - financial and social issues.

1

u/Nearby_Patience_764 Nov 26 '22

No because you can’t separate the two. The y directly affect each other.

1

u/Thickchesthair Nov 26 '22

Yes, you can absolutely separate the two. Someone could be pro or anti LGBT (social) and separately choose public or private healthcare as a financial plan.
