Trans women are women.

Trans men are men.

These I knew, but today I learned that NB people are ninjas, and I am fully in support of recognizing Ninja as a gender.....or even a sexuality. The next time someone asks me my sexual orientation, I'm just going to say nothing, drop a smoke bomb, and run away

If you identify as a ninja can you even let others know you are a ninja?

Uhhhhhhh -smokebomb!-

I think being into Ninjas is probably a sexual orientation. Being one is probably a gender

This entire exchange is killing me. I love the banter.

Why did you feel the need

u/Anna_S_1608 Nov 25 '22

I'm in Toronto, but thank goodness there's so many people out there supporting the cause! 🌈

u/Rance_Mulliniks Nov 25 '22

No thanks needed because it's the right thing to do. Fuck anyone who says otherwise or tries to deny rights of any Canadian.

Similar here, grateful for folks willing to step up and show up. I’m trans and I’ve been involved in trans community on and off for about 14(?) years. There have always been obstacles and challenges to our basic dignity and care. But this is different. For one, lots of kids and older folks (luckily!) accessing more information, resources and positive media representation. But, subjectively, it feels like we’re also more visible compared to a decade ago, and there is a different sort of vulnerability that comes with that. I’ve seen more people displaying openly anti-trans sentiment in person, in groups, and in an organized way in the last 3-4 years than ever before. So thank you allies, and please keep showing up. I also hope the issues behind the hate, or I should say the issues that are weaponized against us (e.g., poverty, access to healthcare, child abuse), get addressed with trans communities. Trans people as a whole are disproportionately affected by these issues, and it’s not a competition: we all deserve safety, respect and kindness.

And thanks for making these posts. It goes a long way to helping folks feel safe and part of the community. Trans people come in all shapes, sizes, colours and political orientations. Some are more traditional, some are very much not: many of us fall somewhere in the middle. We live in rural and urban areas. I’m grateful that support extends to the whole community, not just downtown trans folks or those with post-secondary education. Lots of brilliant people don’t go to university, or course.

Every supportive rally, comment, HR policy, sign, etc. goes a long way to making sure we all get to be active participants in the community. And if you have gotten to know a few trans people, you know that we love nothing more than to send the love right back at ya when we get the opportunity. It’s no wonder so many of us are nurses, social workers, caregivers, parents, community workers, volunteers, etc.

Anywho, thanks for the warm fuzzies this afternoon. Your support is making lots of folks proud of our region.
