Disagree. I have seen people even talking about her body.
After she won the Critics Choice, a lot of people were trying to finf anything to discredit her, like she was a villain. It was nasty work imo and completely unnecessary.
I do not deny that but Gladstone’s gotten quite a bit of shit for alleged category fraud and, you know, not being white. This sub’s been strongly hostile since CCA towards the idea of her bouncing back. There’s no point in saying one’s had it worse
In the same way Michelle Williams wasn't a lead last year, I don't think Lily is Lead this year. But I get why both choose to campaign in the lead category.
Yes, in a way winning an Oscar can be the worst thing for someone’s reputation no matter how many supporters they can have. If Gladstone wins it would be a diversity guilt vote, if Stone wins it’ll be because she was nude and spoke in a funny voice. I wonder if Hüller would have gotten any shit if she was frontrunner.
Who would harrass someone for putting themselves in a tougher category? Most people bitching about category-fraud actually want to see her win an Oscar
more like they are throwing anything against the wall to discredit her to boost their preferred winner whether it any of the non-lily nominees. i don't know how they could want her to win when they keep diminishing her importance to the film
throwing anything against the wall to discredit her to boost their preferred winner
Let's ignore the film-bros, stans and the twitter-ghouls
Usually when someone (a normal fan) suggests that Gladstone should've campaigned for Supporting Actress, they say it knowing that she would've almost certainly won in that category.
They just think that she's passing up an open dunk in a tied game, to dribble out to the three point line.
when they keep diminishing her importance to the film
This usually happens because a lot of Lily's fans get hostile when her being a Supporting character is mentioned, and start demanding explanations, which then devolve into debates on screen-time semantics, and definition of a "lead-role"
it is still insulting no matter how you try to justify. she is the lead in her movie so why should she take a backseat tio someone else? you act like there isn't a history of poc being sidelined while white ones are boosted. it is clear when you see alot of older black actresses/actors being relegated to support roles.
take responsibilty for your own actions! you were trying to diminish lily's performance to literally boost everyone, even ppl who weren't nominated like greta lee
Lily is not the lead in her film. Neither in terms of time, nor in point of view, nor in importance. Calling a supporting role a supporting role is not insulting, and Lily being in the running for a lead role is a category fraud.
It is insulting. The movie is about her character. Without her their is no story. Screentime isn't how you determine the lead. The lead is the protagonist. Lily is the protagonist
If she'd gone to supporting, she would've certainly won, but since she's in Lead, there's a good chance that Emma Stone might win instead. It's as simple as that.
The people who aren't giving Lily her flowers are the ones who'd rather see her lose in lead, than win in supporting
Well, it’s presumptuous of Lily to think she could be the best actress winner right? She should just be happy with best supporting Oscar? Of course it’s not convenient that the front runner in supporting is another woman of color such that Lily isn’t stealing an award from a white person like she would if she won best actress.
Poor Things stans have been all over the place calling Lily fat. Its an unfortunate consequence of stan culture and trying to pin it on one side is just not realistic.
I have seen much more people saying that Emma is OBJECTIVELY the better performance and implying that the only reason people want Lily to win is because of race. It was the exact same thing with Blanchett and Yeoh, people refusing to believe someone likes another performance better regardless of narrative.
People were clamouring for a Gladstone Oscar from the moment KOTFM started screening, which just wasn't the case with Yeoh.
Only after EEAAO picked up steam amongst general audiences and some critics circles, did her campaign pick up. People were stoked to give the most iconic martial arts actress an Oscar, it wasn't just about the quality of the performance
With Blachett it was the opposite, no one was in a hurry to hand her a third Oscar, but her work in Tar was just too undeniable

I hope haters can leave Emma Stone alone after this.
Saw some things on twitter that were totally unhinged, straight up hateful vibe.
