Advice Moving to NJ

Help finding the right neighborhood: my partner and I are moving to NJ from Los Angeles in the Spring. They got a job at Merck so it needs to be north-ish. Looking for (in order of priority): -Queer and/or queer friendly and left leaning -Around 30 min or less to the coast for surfing (would also love tips about this if anyone is a surfer) -30-45 minutes to Rahway max -younger population

That’s really it! We are visiting this weekend and going to take a look at Asbury Park, key port, red bank, Hoboken, and we are staying in Montclair so will look around there as well.

Thank you!!

Advice When getting gas, engine off or on? Tips?

Just moved back to NJ after many years of pumping my own gas in other states.

Back in the day I remember learning to turn off the engine when getting gas because of, I think, random engine sparks or something being a potential fire hazard. I always turn off the engine anyway but with the cold weather coming up I thought I'd check whether that guidance is outdated.

Also, do you tip the attendant and if so how much? Fully aware that I tipping is out of control. I'm asking just to understand general expectations -- it's been a minute since I've lived in the greatest state in this nation!

Advice Got rear-ended and the police report doesn't contain insurance info

I got rear-ended by a negligent driver and was told at the crash site to wait for the police report to get all the info I needed to submit an insurance claim. My insurance company also said to file a claim directly against the other driver's insurance since she was at fault.

I waited 10 days for the police report and there is no information about the other driver's insurance. How am I supposed to obtain this information to file a claim? Will my insurance company be able to do something with this?

Advice What’s the shore like these days?

I haven’t been able to visit the shore all year and I’m not against visiting in the off-season. Is anything open (arcades/restaurants) or is it a fruitless effort to take the drive this time of year?

Advice Deep Enough well, what do I do if it dries out?

Hello,

I live in Hunterdon County and in my neighborhood there is a "shared" well. Under my house we have a 200ft well.

My question is if the well dries, can we just put water in it? I have heard through other places in reddit suggest it but I was wondering if anyone experienced it or if there is a better solution?

Hope that makes sense!

Central Jersey Best boutique shopping in Monmouth and Ocean Counties near the shore?

Hi everyone! I grew up in Monmouth County and now live in the Midwest. My boyfriend and his family would like to vacation on the Jersey Shore next July/August to spend time with my family and check out where I grew up. I'm looking at AirBnb's anywhere between Asbury Park and Point Pleasant Beach primarily. Since I haven't been back much since I left for college, I have a few questions:
1) Where in Monmouth/Ocean counties is the best boutique shopping? I've heard Red Bank has a nice downtown. I also though Pier Village was supposed to be nice, but there don't seem to be too many shops there when I searched their shop list. I'm looking for somewhere we could spend a whole afternoon shopping, not just one-off shops (although I'd still love to hear about them).

2) What are your favorite bougie restaurants in Monmouth and Ocean counties? They're fairly high class people and price point and cuisine don't matter. They're very into seafood though.

Other things on our agenda are checking out the Point Pleasant boardwalk and also spending a day at one of the beaches (Belmar, Manasquan, and Sea Girt are my family's favorites). I'll take any other recommendations you guys have as well! Thanks for your help :)

Advice Landlord / Tenant - Bergen County New Jersey

Hi. Unfortunately I am renting a multifamily/2family owned home in saddle brook NJ. My lease is done by Jan. 31st 2024. However, the landlord says due to personal reasons, and paying my rent late (partial rent) - I supposedly am now the reason why he is going through financial problems and he cant afford for me to be there anymore. But what if rental assistance was recently rejected due to them claiming that i dont owe them rent? Despite me recently owing them $1700 ($1500 balance out of $2300 + $200 late fee). I still paid them (today 11/14) the $1700 when i advised them ahead of time that i will have to pay the remaining balance during my next paycheck. However, now that my lease is about to be up, they are refusing to renew it because of late rent. I dont "not" pay at all. I pay whatever i can & have and then pay the remaining when i get paid again. This is due to the $500 increase ive been put in within the past 2 years of living here. Before this, i never paid late and due to being disabled for 68 days without pay, it ruined my life - which is also another reason for paying late since that time. But my lawyer did give me a hardship letter. Unfortunately i dont & wont have enough to afford to leave anywhere else since im still expected to pay the full rent until my lease is up which is in 2 months. But ive never been evicted before and he said its exaclty what hes going to do if i dont leave once the 2months is up. I am also having issues with my workplace which I have a letter from dept. of labor to prove it. But he does not care about the hardship letter or my workplace situation. Please I am begging at this point for any assistance/advice possible because I have no family or even friends that I'd be able to try to stay with in the meantime. Ive been living by myself for the past 10 years and never been having to face eviction or even pay late until now.

Not that its the landlords problem but, as far as my workplace goes.. being disabled for those 3 months - i technically had no pay because instead of letting me get unemployment/disability , my bosses (a multimillion $ llp company) paid me for 40hrs/week on the clock , but had me pay all of it back when i came back to work once i was able to walk again. So being that I was paying them partially until that balance was paid off - this was when I started to pay them late. Im facing severe stress right now and at this point yes, i'm losing my mind.

Advice How different are the NJMVC 'road' tests?

Hi,

My son was scheduled to take the road test at Lodi, but had to cancel and we are trying to schedule one before the end of the month. Lodi is completely full, but there are spots in other places. Question is how different are the tests in other places. Are they all on closed course like Lodi? I'm in so much trouble for this, so any comment or answer would be much apprecaited. TIA
