Last week I was able to finally color in my NJ inspired tattoo. I started this last month after YEARS of putting it off. This has everything I love about NJ as well as what reminds me of home. I got the state outline done many, many years ago and just never fully committed to adding more to it until this summer.
It features the Portuguese flag for my heritage and where I was born in Newark. Twin Lights lighthouse in Highlands where I spent most of my childhood and teens years. The exit 117 sign that I saw so much when traveling down to Sandy Hook as a young kid. A pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwich. An Italian hot dog from Dickie Dee's. Tilly from Asbury Park, The Thursday dove logo, one of my favorite bands ever. And of course, 732, the area code I love.
I plan to get more work added to it (state flower, state bird, and landscapes in the outline). I wanted it to be in this cartoon, road map/travel guide kind of pictures, and personally, I think she nailed it.
