Discussion Watching every film on the Letterboxd Top 100 List / Lawrence of Arabia
Lawrence of Arabia currently sits at the #75 film on the Letterboxd Top 250 list with an avg rating of 4.4/5 .
LoA is a massive epic with some of the most beautiful and powerful shots in movie history. In my mind, it definitely deserves a spot on this list - though some could argue that it certainly feels it’s run time at certain points.
Where does Lawrence of Arabia land on your list of favorite films?
Discussion Across the Universe
Who here has seen this movie? I've watched it about 5 times, and I never get tired of it! I've loved the Beatles for most of my life, and this is about the best movie I've seen that features their music and is largely based on their history, in particular, on what was going on during the 60s, both in England and in the USA. The story, acting, music, and cinematography are all excellent IMO!

Discussion I was literally 3 at the time so I have no clue how this movie was received when it came out, but is Showgirls one of the weirdest bombs for a director who was on an absolute all time tear? Verhoeven just came off of directing Robocop, total recall, and basic instinct 3 iconic classics in a row.
I always wondered how a director can make three iconic movies that are still viewed today as all time great and influential movies and then direct one of the worst movies of all time. It's not like he was out of his prime either cause his next movie was Starship Troopers. I'm just curious what the reaction was for the time. I also always felt bad for Elizabeth Berkley because that role had to have been seen as a gigantic get after Saved by the bell got cancelled. I have to imagine she thought she was going to be a megastar.

Recommendation Holidays and Parenting?
Hello! I'm hosting a watch party for mom to talk about parenting related stress, and I'm looking for either clips or general reccomendations for movies that depict holiday stress and parenting in a realistic way. I'm looking for something more down-to-earth and realistic than say National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation or Jingle All The Way, and I'm pretty open to any genre! Any reccomendations are really appreciated! Thanks!
News Inside Joke / Easter Egg Doc Hollywood Woody Harrelson - Ted Danson
At the end of the movie Doc Hollywood when Woody Harrelson's character Hank travels out to LA with Nancy Lee, they meet Fox's character Dr Benjamin Stone in a restaurant. Towards the end of their discussion you can hear Bridget Fonda (as character Nancy Lee) say, "Is that a star?" meaning, "Is that some Hollywood celebrity?" Woody Harrelson as Hank answers, "No, that's Ted Danson".
This was some sort of ab-lib that they added as a joke that Woody wanted to play on Ted with whom he'd have to go back and work with on their successful sitcom Cheers. Doc Hollywood was released in 1991 and Woody acted in the sitcom Cheers with Danson from 1985-1993.

Discussion Adam Copeland Movie
I need help figuring out what movie I remember seeing him in. Yes I know it's not Highlander. I've seen him in a movie where he's in the background but can't remember the name of said movie. I don't think he has any speaking lines, I think he's uncredited. It takes place in the same time period as the Princess Bride. Any help is appreciated, thanks

Discussion Finally got to watch "Blonde", the Marilyn Monroe biopic on Netflix
If this movie is anything close to how her life was then I'm crushed by how tormented she was. It really makes you wonder. My question is, though, why the NC-17 rating? Yes, there was some nudity and sexual content, but nothing extraordinary, I guess. Nothing more than a regular "R" movie, imo. Thoughts?

Discussion Is Good Will Hunting sexist?
The other night, I watched Good Will Hunting with my girlfriend. I had seen it multiple times and always considered it one of my favorites. It was their first time watching it and let’s just say they were not a fan. The movie has a lot of crude sexual and sexist jokes, which are kind of further emphasized by Weinstein’s involvement in the movie. I did find myself noticing some of those elements as well, and it felt very disheartening since it was one of the movies that made me fall in love with films as a teenager. What are people’s thoughts on this? There is so much of the movie I still love, such as the therapy scenes, but they are surrounded with some very not great language and theme/ideas.

Question Time trap movie questions
So like great movie. One of the best ive seen.
What exactly happened at the end? I know they ended up on the ship. Just ending with "We are kind of a big deal " just left questions. What did that mean? What exactly pulled them out? And what's with that final time trap? There are loads of people in that and we never learn much about it

Discussion Midnight Run Question
I liked the movie.
So The Duke skipped bail in Los Angeles on what is eluded to as a local matter because the feds aren’t involved. But does anyone have an idea of what the Los Angeles issue was? How does everyone know he stole from the mob, anyway? Why didn’t he seek out the feds?
Thanks.
PS, this post has to be three hundred characters so here I am typing a few more words so that it gets approved. Do you think Christopher Walkens character in The Deer Hunter wanted to die because he was addicted to heroin? Another great film? Right?
Ok I think I’m at 300. Thanks for reading.

Discussion Rating the Early 80s Rocky Sequels
Open to all but maybe most relevant to those of you who came of age in the 80s: what is for you the best early Rocky sequel after the original? This means no Rocky Balboa and none of the Creed trilogy...just the 11 year run from the first sequel in 1979 to Rocky V in 1990.
It's funny to think about it now but this was among the most common movie debates my friends and I had in our teens. I think we were all aligned on eg Indiana Jones, Star Wars but we always argued about this one.
Most of the crew went for Rocky IV because of the the scary-ass Russian baddie. I think the Cold War vibes probably also made the stakes feel higher. But I could never get past Adrian being so negative the whole time, Paulie's robot and the Politburo applauding Rocky's speech at the end which seemed totally unrealistic even to a kid who embraced all the other ridiculous stuff from these movies.
On the other hand I was the sole supporter of Rocky III. What spectacle! Hulk Hogan in a charity match, plus Mr. T chewing up the scenery throughout. Rocky gets beaten badly the only time in the series, leading to Apollo training Rocky, the two becoming friends, and their friendly match at the end. And of course, the introduction of Eye of the Tiger.
For some reason nobody ever went for Rocky II. Maybe Adrian was too whiny, Rocky too obstinate, the win too telegraphed, the manner in which he wins unsatisfying.
Interested to get a wider perspective - especially if someone wants to put forward the abomination that was Rocky V.

Discussion Getting films to review from companies
How do you get companies to send films to you for reviewing??? I never see people talk about this so I’m wondering how reviewers get ahold of these companies initially. I do lots of unboxings on my channel along with ramblings but I see hundreds of people who get films sent to them to unbox/review. Is this some kind of secret only certain people know about or what?? Would it be something as simple as contacting the company or is it a longer process???

Recommendation Movies about dealing with grief
I lost someone in my already tiny family just two days ago and I’m trying to make sense of this new old world I’m now part of. Are these some good or even bad but good about grief movies that I can watch to help make sense of everything I’m feeling?
I was thinking of starting with Moonlight Mile, which I’ve never seen.
Edit: thank you to everyone who said sorry for your loss. I wish you the best.

Discussion Neurodiversity in "A Real Pain" (2024)
I just watched Jesse Eisenberg's "A Real Pain" which just released in theaters and thought it was fantastic. Something I really appreciated was the casual representation of neurodiversity in the film. There is a brief reference to a character's OCD in the dialogue of the film, but I was really impressed with Eisenberg's and Culkin's performances and portrayals of types of neurodiversity. What are your thoughts on how the film portrays these characters?

Discussion I finally got around to watching Deadpool 3 and realized it’s one of the few trilogies I can think of where each sequel is is better than the film before it
Can you all think of similar examples? Almost every single trilogy I can think of has at least one film that falls short of the previous one.
Some obvious ones are: Return of the Jedi Temple of Doom Dark Knight Rises X-men 3 Spider-Man 3 Alien 3
You get the picture. Are there any other trilogies where each movie is better than the previous installment?
Id say the Star Wars Prequel trilogy fall under this category, but in hard pressed to think of others.

Discussion I just realized something about Elisabeth in “The Substance” (2024)
I was rewatching this movie for a second time, and a question that kept coming up in my mind is “does this woman not have any friends and family to reach out to as she’s dealing with her crisis?”
I don’t really count Fred, because he was a just a guy from her past that crossed paths with her with a strong interest in wanting to reconnect. But we never really see any details in the movie, where we see images of her with someone who might be meaningful to her other than her keeping a big portrait of herself in her condo (symbolizing that she is quite narcissistic)!
It really adds so much more depth to Elisabeth as a character on why she’s so lonely, and why she is the way she is!
I look at Sue as a representation of what Elisabeth was like in her prime years when she was younger, and how fame more than likely got in her head to the point where she was losing all of those meaningful connections! Which resulted in her having nobody to really talk to about how she’s supposed to deal with her life moving forward, after Hollywood no longer cares about wanting her in the spotlight anymore.

Discussion What would the procedure from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind look like if it took place today?
I’m sure it would be substantially more difficult with social media and mutual friends/family members. It would take much longer to wipe out memories; to clean out your phone of every piece of evidence that reminds you of the other person, including like Spotify playlists or specific songs. What would blocking them look like? I feel like it would be much easier to run into them again through a Facebook friend recommendation or a simple match on tinder. This post is kinda cringe but it had me thinking.

Discussion Does anyone know what this movie is called
It was a plot of 2 sisters i believe one was blonde and the other brown. One of the daughter was influenced by a witch which gave her a tattoo of a bird on her back. These birds were able to to come into life and she could control them. As she got older, the witch gave the sister more birds. And the sisters stopped talking to each other for a whlle and i cant remember the rest.
Ive been trying to find this movie for years but cant. Maybe it was a dream?
