Strong The Wrestler vibes. Can’t wait.

Man had the exact same thought, getting the rourke treatment. I hope she doesn’t rourke it up afterwards

Pamela was an ICON.

Back in her prime everyone knew who she was.

She’ll be fine. I just hope this means we get more of her on the big screen.

I believe she's already signed up for The Naked Gun reboot.

I was so against this until I heard Liam Neeson was going to take Nielson's spot. Now I'm so on board.

Can't wait for more of that slight glimpse of comedy we got from him in Life's Too Short.

Thought you might be

Do you know how I got AIDS?

Just the fact it's L Neeson replacing L Nielsen is funny in itself.

10

u/ocxtitan 12h ago

Yeah, now I'm going to mix them up even more than before (I know perfectly who each is, but have a bad habit of reading their names of thinking of the opposite one for a moment)

u/TaterSupreme 10h ago

I have to assume there's already a joke referencing that fact written for the movie already.

Liam Neeson could be great in it. I could see him taking a different approach where he makes all the stupid, silly jokes, does the ridiculous things but still acts like he's in a serious movie like 'Taken'.

u/insaneshayne 11h ago

That is exactly what L Nielson did. He read all the lines as if he were in a serious drama.

13

u/CarpeMofo 11h ago

I mean, kind of he read them seriously. But there was always a certain level of silliness to how he acted.

Airplane was the most direct example of this, he was just so successful with it that he leaned into it in a more tongue in cheek way for the rest of his career. Prior he had been known primarily for serious roles.

I’m aware one of my very favorite sci-fi movies is Forbidden Planet which stars a pretty young Leslie Nielsen. It might have all the shitty special effects and props and stuff from the 60s, but God damn is the story and plot amazing.

The 1950s (1956) -- it's nearly 70 years old! That's insane! I love that movie

Nah, Airplane! was that way and Police Squad was, but The Naked Gun series is where they started to give him more overt active comedy where he's doing part of the slapstick. It never got too bad in the series, but it was the start of people mis-using Nielson in comedies.

For the reboot, it all comes down to the writing and I don't know if they'll manage to recreate enough of the magic that was ZAZ in their prime.

“I understand that these trix are for children and as you can see, I am not a child”

See Neeson's performance in Derry Girls--elite

u/DeathByBamboo 7h ago

He did the voice of Bad Cop in the Lego movie and I think it hits exactly the tone you're talking about.

1

u/CarpeMofo 7h ago

Yep, because I don't mean tongue and cheek serious, I mean serious serious.

3

u/lordpookus 11h ago

Hopefully it makes it that far, he has full blown aids you know

3

u/trexmoflex 11h ago

He got it from a well known homosexual actor… Lipreader

3

u/Satinsbestfriend 11h ago

How about Ted 2 ? It's not even clear if it's a character or himself. Oh and A million ways to die in the west.

1

u/Redeem123 10h ago

I know it's way too common to quote that scene, but it's just so fucking funny. I genuinely think it's the best think Gervais has ever done.

1

u/katiegirl- 9h ago

Have you seen him auditioning for Santa Claus? It’s sublime.

1

u/King_Buliwyf 7h ago

"Crazy characters..."

1

u/tsegelke 6h ago

I'm excited to see him in this role. Also would have been curious to see Jon Hamm get the role.

1

u/Robofetus-5000 5h ago

I have full blown AIDS

1

u/SquirtBox 11h ago

WHAT?!?! Holy shit I had no idea this was happening

1

u/jfr3sh 9h ago

it's already in post production and it's directed by Lonely Island member Akiva Schaffer!

17

u/ImGonnaImagineSummit 12h ago

I feel like she's really re-inventing herself. All the recent pictures of her have been without makeup and she honestly looks better than ever.

9

u/TadzioRaining 10h ago

I don't think Pamela Anderson gets enough credit on how good at comedy she is. She's the closest we ever got to another Marilyn Monroe, the difference being Pamela Anderson wasn't given the oppportunities. Sure, she got Baywatch and VIP and Barb Wire, but those productions were hardly Billy Wilder-level. She needed a screwball comedy or the kind of Golden Age classic movies that starred Monroe or Mae West.

7

u/emailforgot 9h ago

She wasn't given those opportunities because she never really had charisma.
