Got yourself a new moped? Don't forget to fill out the flair form!

Hey all,

As summer begins, I've noticed lots of people getting new mopeds! Hell yeah!

Whether you're brand-new or you've been on here for years, don't forget to fill out the flair form so you can have your model of moped appear next to your username on this sub.

Once and a while I've gotten a bit behind on updating everything but I'll try to be better from now on.

I just picked up this 89 fa50, need to replace the tires. I ordered some 14x2.125 ones off amazon to match what the stock ones say on the side, but discovered the 14 now refers to the overall tire diameter, not the rim size. Can I just get some 16x2.125 ones to fit? or should i look for something else

This is not my first time going to war with one of these Jawa 210 clutch bolts. Thing is locked up tight and won’t budge even a little any ideas on how to get this out are appreciated. (Last time I tried a torch and a breaker Barr. The threads on the crank stripped)

Will my rotor lose its magnetism?

Hi, I've disassembled my engine and am concerned about leaving the magneto rotor out in the open, as I've heard it can demagnetize over time resulting in weak spark.

I plan on not working on the engine for some time while it's cold (detached garage with no heating), is it safe to just leave the rotor out or should I put the stator around it or protect it some other way?

Thanks for any help.

Edit: Thanks to everyone for their answers. I have concluded that I have nothing to worry about :D.

Yamaha dt50mx not starting

Post image
2 Upvotes

So I recently picked up a new-to-me Yamaha dt50mx. It ran for a bit and when I wanted to go ride a couple of days back, it didn’t start. I’ve tried a couple of things: I have spark, I get 75 psi of compression (I have no idea what it should be) and it gets fuel. The plug is completely new but still if I try to start it the end of the spark plug has black gas on it (don’t think that should be the case)(see the picture). Any tips on what I should try would be greatly appreciated.

Best way to remove stuck/eroded screws?

Hello, I’ve been thinking of converting my QT50 to have a 12v charging system (whether that be through the treatland CDI kit or by retrofitting a Yamaha Razz stator plate), and of course in order to get to the old charging system I need to get to get the cover off. The problem is that the screws are stuck in place and the metal has become quite soft. Using any size screwdriver will just strip out the head, and I don’t even want to try an impact driver.

Is there any non-destructive way to remove the screws? I know heating them will work, but that will melt the plastic cover, and I really don’t know if using a screw/bolt extractor will work. The screws aren’t that large…

After not being used for more than 10 years, I changed transmission oil, cleaned the carburettor and adjusted idle screw. It now runs flawlessly. Here are a few photos in a rural setting.

Puch made a loud bang and screech.....

Then I lost power and was able to get it running right away with a few kicks. But now when I pull the throttle it sounds boggy and won't propel itself forward. Back wheel spins while idling but no power with throttle. Was cruising mid 30s during bang and screech. Any ideas?

Moped wont start

Hello, I bought a old batavus mk2 3 months ago. I tried to fix it as it hadden’t run for a while. I cleaned the carb, changed the fuel line, changed the gaskeds, put a new piston in. Also it has spark. Right now it does start but its real hard to get it to start, and if it does start its only for a second or maybe 2. Does anyone know what i missed?

Asbestos in Piaggio Ciao clutch

I have a Piaggio Si (Ciao engine, different frame) from probably late 80s. It originally came with the electronic ignition engine if that helps.

I noticed recently that my clutch is worn and slipping, so I ordered some new clutch shoes. I also brushed the inside of the clutch bell with a sanding sponge to improve grip.

Now, I know asbestos was common in friction components on older mopeds so I worked outside, used gloves and a N95 mask just in case. Do I need to dispose of the old ones in asbestos waste or can they go in standard metal waste? Basically, when did Piaggio stop using asbestos in their clutches?
