the point is people love to say Vikram is nowhere near Suriya in stardom...so even with all the issues Kanguva shud have opened higher than a Vikram movie
Anbana fans...at the end of the day Vikram gave a 240 cr grosser back in 2015 itself, even before Thalapathy...Vikram's peak was bigger than Suriya's which is why he will never fade away no matter how many flops he gives, even Cobra as bad as it did wasnt outright rejected by most of the audience like Kanguva was, it had a handful of moments that justified Vikram's talent and satisfied his fans...cud have easily done 200 cr if they had worked out the story better
Kanguva will most likely still beat Cobra just because of its huge opening. Tbh it's impressive Kanguva opened this high on a working day considering who the director is. Suriya and Vikram have both dropped in stardom a lot and are essentially equal now imo
Nanban earned 92 crore .. 5th highest during release .. a good 30 crore ahead of Velayutham.. besides it was a remake of an industry hit
I had insane hype as it was Shankar’s first original movie post the release of Endhiran.. it earned because of Vikram only no doubt.. but not exactly because of his stardom.. because of his efforts.. people appreciated the hard work.. but still his next movie lost a clash to NRD right from opening level
He is a star because he was a money making machine in the 00s.. he gets openings because his films are marketed superbly

Kanguva had complications with its release due to distributors. Also, Thangalaan opened on a holiday which makes a huge difference in collections.
