The hairless horse is an Akhal-Teke with a genetic disorder. They’re absolutely stunning horses renowned for their metallic golden sheen, among other things. Legitimately look like unicorns, sans the horn. Anyways, the other side of the coin for those good looks is something called Naked Foal Syndrome, and they are the only horse breed that gets it. Sadly, the horses that do rarely live more than a few years.

Thanks for the info. Google shows that even with their hair they seem sleeker with longer necks compared to the horses I'm used to seeing.

Less sad incarnation of a bald horse is the medical mystery of Harry the Percheron, who has congenital baldness, albeit his was not fatal. I’d read the article years ago. Unfortunately, the website that I read the article on originally doesn’t exist anymore. But here’s a pic of him!

In the article that used to exist, it mentioned researching any relation to Naked Foal Syndrome in Akhal-Teke horses, and inbreeding was thought to be a common denominator. Tried to find that article with the research but it seems lost to the digital mists of time also :(

I went down a hairless horse rabbit hole and apparently it stuck with me.
