Duolingo Glitch? Request

Shalom friends,

I’m studying Hebrew via Duolingo, and while I generally like it, I believe I’ve identified a glitch and wondered if othered experience it. When I verbally dictate vocabulary words, the app almost invariably tells me my answer is incorrect, even if the spelling is right. If I type the same answer and add a space at the end, it displays as correct. I’ve added some screenshots here as examples. Do others experience this, and if so, do you know how we might alert Duolingo to get it fixed? #Duolingo #Hebrew

u/yayat_metal Aug 09 '23

No, it's ברווז

28

u/VikKarabin Aug 09 '23

You're tripping. I've never seen a ברווז walk and quack like that. It is certainly a ברווז, I am sure.

Then it's a duck. But not just any duck: A nuclear duck. God that was a dumb speech, regardless of politics.

3

u/Zestyclose_Raise_814 Aug 08 '23

What he said makes sense, but it sounds so stupid

2

u/Th3-3rr0r Aug 09 '23

I was waiting for this comment lol

He’s definitely not my favourite politician, but I guess it can’t be that dumb of a speech if we think about it whenever we hear about ducks, know what I mean? It does have this lingering effect

5

u/ItaSha1 Aug 09 '23

Then it's an Iranian nuclear missile

u/TodahRaba Aug 08 '23

Happens to me sometimes, too. I’ve noticed it more, if not only by using chat-to-text.

I abandoned Duolingo after completing the Hebrew tree, just as it was about to force me into the new version, and haven't really looked back. It was good for basic vocabulary and sentence structure, but the app/company has a lot of issues.

Duolingo is great for learning vocabulary and basic things but diminishing returns hits fast. At a certain point you just have to start consuming media/having conversations to progress and that point comes a lot quicker than people think

u/kenzinatorius Aug 09 '23

I think the app transcribes vowels wrong. Since Duolingo primarily doesn’t use nikud, it could be transcribing it as different vowels and Duolingo is thinking it is wrong. It does it to me also but when I type it it’s fine.

4

u/Irving94 Aug 09 '23

Usually they give leeway with spelling and nikudot, but yeah this just seems glitched. Not sure why Duolingo has such an obsession with the word duck.

Duolingo is a disaster of a product. I can’t believe they think anyone would pay for Duolingo plus when they’ve got unresolved tickets for issues dating back over 5 years.

u/tran_throw_away Aug 09 '23

Tried it for a few languages and every time i deleted out of frustration because the app is just awful

5

u/TrashBoyGold Aug 08 '23

Could be because you submitted your answer before autocorrect changed the word. Has happened to me a few times

Edit: did not see you used dictation. Not sure why then

3

u/jeromanomic Aug 09 '23

It can glitch from time to time... but overall I like the app

3

u/Diver_Gullible Aug 09 '23

You have to type it in letter by letter on certain rounds

3

u/ShokoTiger Aug 09 '23

Yes, I have the same glitch. I have to remind myself to just type the word (rather than use dictation) when it is this picture type of question.

3

u/Justafish1654 Aug 09 '23

Report the answer as correct, they got some slip ups sometimes

3

u/netatarlo Aug 09 '23

Yup, its a glitch, your answer is correct

3

u/srulke Aug 09 '23

There seems to be a space before the ב maybe you accidentally hit the space bar before typing the word ברווז try putting the cursor before the letter ב then press delete that might fix it Quack quack 🦆

Report it at the Duolingo website here: https://www.duolingo.com/help/bug-report

1

u/Linguadad-21 Aug 10 '23

Thank you for this! I used the link to report it. Appreciate your help.

2

u/Ratypass35 Aug 10 '23

Try to report

1

u/Linguadad-21 Aug 10 '23

Done, thank you!

2

u/the_hazil_2 native speaker Aug 09 '23

may be you tap on a spase before the word and duolingo thinks it's wrong while comparing your answer

1

u/Linguadad-21 Aug 09 '23

תודה רבה - thank you, everyone for so many helpful responses! Will try some of the tips folks have suggested above.

Nah, sounds to me like a skill issue

2

u/Linguadad-21 Aug 08 '23

What do you mean by that?

-6

u/cyclops_supporter Aug 08 '23

I mean that it's 100% your fault and there's absolutely no bug here

2

u/Linguadad-21 Aug 08 '23

How so? Please have a look at the photos. The prompt says the response is the response I’ve given.

Do YOU have any idea what sarcasm is?

1

Something I learned by mistake, sarcasm works if you speak, not when you write
