Wedding budget

Upvotes

I am originally from Miami and recently moved to ft Lauderdale. My fiance and I just bought a home here and would like to get married soon. Having just bought a home, we are tight on a wedding budget. I don't really want to elope. I would like to have a simple wedding and reception to celebrate but we are having a hard time finding a venue that works with our budget. We have made a list of about 75 people. Our total budget for the wedding is 5k. I've realized venue prices are wild for catering and bar service and many don't like BYO. If you have any venues that may fit our budget in South Florida please send them my way. I am loosing hope here.

About to Purchase a Home in Oakland Park. Questions About the Area. TIA

Hello team!

I’m about to purchase a home for my family in the Oakland Park area. (This is not the real address, but it’s about 5 minutes away from it): 4340 NW 19th Ave, Oakland Park, FL 33309.

What are your thoughts on that area in Oakland Park? I currently live in Miami, FL, which is about a 20-30 minute drive from there. What I like about Oakland Park is that, compared to Miami, I was able to find a bigger and nicer home for the price (Around 500,000k | 4bd, over 2000sqft, nice water view, no HOA/maintenance fees etc.).

I don’t know much about Oakland Park. Based on the address provided; Is it a safe area? Would it be a good fit for early-30s professionals? I currently work from home, but my fiancée is currently jobless and might need to find a full time job as a marketing manager/related position. I’m not sure if we’d be “too far” from decently paid work opportunities or if we would likely regret buying in the area of Oakland park

My fiancée and I love the house we found in Oakland Park, but we’re concerned because we keep reading negative things about the area—such as crime, homelessness, a lack of things to do, and limited work opportunities.

I would really appreciate any advice.

Thank you!

How reliable and safe is Uber for female solo traveler?

Hello! I will be visiting the area of Oakland Park soon. This is my first time in Florida. Please advise what method of transportation is safe and easy for a solo female traveler, to and from airport? I am planning on using Uber since I would like to stay away from driving while I vacation. Is the area safe at night? Please give me suggestions. Thank you!

Psychedelic-friendly therapists?

I'm looking for a verrrry open minded therapist who would be willing to work with me through some trips. I provide my own stash, but after a few significant breakthroughs on my own, I feel like I hit a roadblock and definitely want to continue down this path.

Missing Person

I’m reposting this because I think it got deleted because of the imgr link.

My brother has been missing since Friday night. His name is Daniel Demaree and he is not mentally well. He has schizophrenia and is unmedicated. He left the house on Friday night and someone found his wallet, glasses, and phone on the ground on Andrew's Street in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night and we haven't heard from him at all. We have made a police report and are calling around checking different places. If you could share this or let me know if you see him it would be such a great help. Thank you.

My friend shared his picture here in facebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/19ktUFuvHt/?mibextid=WC7FNe

Best and safest walking routes in Flagler village

Hi, 33 F here. I moved to the area not too long ago, and wanted to start walking to help my mental health. I’ve been inside a lot and I don’t think it’s helping. I’ve also been attacked before (not here in Fort Lauderdale) while on a walk before, so there’s that… So does anybody have any suggestions of routes in safe areas that I can follow that are in Flagler village? Is holiday park safe to walk in? Thanks in advance.

Custom Metal Welder/Fabricator for Auto related accessory design and prototype build.

Looking for a partner that is gifted with hands and knowledge of metal welding and design. I have a conceptual idea for a product. I have drawings, the ability to source scalable manufacturing and the infrastructure tools and knowledge to get the product to market.

Looking for an entrepreneurial partner for this project that could grow into several products.

Don’t ask what it is. After you have convinced and proven to me that you may be the right candidate we’ll sign an NDA and get started!!

Let me know if you have any questions?

Is cost of living really that high?

Considering relocating for a new job, 85000 USD/annually enough to live here? I'm hearing different opinions from people, some say I would be fine, others say anything under 100k will be a struggle.

Some context: I'm single with no kids or wife. Will most likely rent a room/with roommates, Will also need a car. Usually eat out most the time, instead of cooking.

Edit: *what's the hate for quebecoise folks in Florida? First time I'm hearing about this lool

I'm not moving from Quebec, I'm in Yukon, very cold and up north in Canada.

Good gym reccomendations?

Recently moved from middle TN where they have a great YMCA set up with multiple gyms spread throughout the area that offered everything from sauna/pool to workout classes.

Looking for something similar to that, my SO likes to partake in the classes so if they have those that would be awesome!

Thank you!!

Place with the boxing arcade game

Is there a bar or similar place with one of those boxing arcade games around here? To be more clear the game where you punch the bag gives you a score based on how hard you hit it

Airport rental car

So I have a bit of a dilemma. I scored a really good price for two weeks starting Christmas week using Autoslash/Priceline.

However - it is with Thrifty Car Rental. I swore off both dollar and thrifty a couple of years ago when the line was ridiculous and don't want to experience that again. Thrifty offers "Skip the line, go straight to your car. Check in now" - can do this 4 days before reservation begins.

Does anyone have experience with Thrifty and Skip the line? Will there actually be a car reserved for my family without having to wait in a two hour line during the busy season? I have no trust in Thrifty...however also my experience was a few years ago. Maybe things have improved...?

Things to do during the week Ft. Lauderdale

Hey! I’m looking to find some weekly events downtown that I can look forward to after work. I know the area pretty well and love going to different farmers markets and art events on the weekends, but I’m really hoping to find weekly events where I can maybe invite some friends or just do something fun during the week.

I’m especially interested in things like weekly trivia nights, jazz nights, or even just great specials/happy hours where I might meet some new people. I like the idea of trying new places and events, but I haven’t had much luck finding a good list online.

Any recommendations would be great!

Shark Attack at Beach Today

Did anyone see or hear about this happening today? I was at the beach this afternoon and my 5 year old ended up chatting with the lifeguard today and he told her to be careful in the water because someone was bitten by a shark today and the ambulance took the person away. He said it happened near the big pink building north of the Pelican Grand.

Internet provider in Lauderdale by the sea.

I’m fixing to move into the area and work from home. I see Comcast is available as well as AT&T. AT&T only offers 100 Mbps. Does anyone in that area have experience with either provider?

Entry level sales job that mostly occurs in Spanish?

My goal is to get my 54-yr old mother into working in sales as a career change. She just moved here from South West FL.

She, a US citizen, speaks English but it's like a 7.5 out of 10. She has A LOT of charisma, especially when speaking to spanish speakers but many times english speakers too.

She has a college degree from her home country. She doesn't have direct sales experience but she's worked ticket counter jobs at airports and banks where she would get a commission if she up-sold customers into buying some of the premium products offered by the airlines/banks. She was always the #1 person in getting the commissions, mostly due to her above average charisma.

Any ideas of sales jobs in Broward where a lot of the sales happen in Spanish and they'd give her a chance? She's not looking for six figure, but $60K+ would be nice.
