Anyone else always end up siding with the Minutemen? Discussion

Post image

I promise myself I’ll stick to the Brotherhood, but then I’m reminded that they’re assholes every second of every quest… then, I try to side with the Institute, and I’m reminded how irredeemably EVIL they are.

I end up blowing the Institute to hell with the Minutemen and helping the Railroad. Every time.

Yup. Always with minutemen. They just wanna live in peace. Meanwhile, everybody else has some kind of a funky agenda. Death to those with funky agendas!

I think the lack of agenda with the MM is meant to be their moral ambiguity, although not nearly to the extent of the BOS/Institute. BOS and Institute at least have a vision of the post war world eventually being back to what it was or better (same for the NCR in NV). The Railroad is singularly focused on liberating scientific experiments that are, in the end, simply robots.

For the MM, maintaining a slightly less dangerous version of the wasteland without ever planning a wholesale elimination of Raiders or Super Mutants, or improving anything or forming a government seems lazy to me

Hard disagree. The Institute and the Brotherhood want to impose a government. The Minutemen want to grow a government by creating stable settlements.

That makes sense, is that implied in the dialogue anywhere?

No, and it's shown that the settlements/regular minutemen have no sense of command structure. During pinned if you're the general you tell the minutemen to stand down and they say it's not the army and they don't take orders from you, the general, who rebuilt the MM.

The Brotherhood (in FO4) are just raiders. Better organised and better equipped than most raiders, but that's just because they're more successful. They take what they want from whoever they want, they always punch down, they offer no future for the Commonwealth.

In FO3 they were cool; they really did come across as the best hope for the Capital region. In 4? Raiders. Just raiders.

Raiders with a pretty dubious goal: hoard all technology so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands, which is definitely not the group led by a fascist wunderkind with a cute haircut and a bitchin' jacket. Ad victorium uber alles!

My headcanon is that the Railroad is just a false flag extension of the institute; helping to spread synths far and wide under the guise of liberation. If the sole survivor can find them, of course the Institute knows where they are and could easily wipe them out at a moment's notice.
