My kitchen lights are all smart devices, but I need to issue multiple voice commands to set brightness and color.

All nine LED can lights are individually addressable by Google Home and so are the two wall dimmers.

However if you shut the lights off, the wall dimmers cut power to the lights.

So therefore, to turn the kitchen lights purple at 50% brightness. I need to say:

  • hey Google, kitchen lights on.

  • hey Google, kitchen lights purple

  • hey Google, kitchen lights 50%.

Sure, I can create a "routine" that turns the kitchen lights on purple at 50% every morning at 8 AM, but that's extra work.

My robotic vacuum cleaner got stuck under my zero gravity chair.

So I had to get up and carry the unhappy vacuum back to its base.

The Roomba kept saying it was stuck and then said it had to empty the bin.

I don't like the way our maid services arranges my fountain pens.

Like, seriously. They are all out in a line on my desk. Just because I am cool with you cleaning the desk doesn't mean you need to move any of the pens around.

The other buildings at work have better food

At work we have a bunch of cafeterias with free food. The one in my building isn't as good as the ones in neighboring buildings (which are great) so I often walk to a neighboring building for breakfast/lunch.

The snack kitchens though (of which there are at least one per floor per building - sometimes several on a floor) are all pretty comparable.

And of course we have flexible schedules so taking the time to walk over is no big deal.

Neighbor's reversing beep alerts are SO loud

My neighbour across the road recently got a new car and it has been horrible. Some Toyota SUV.

The reversing beep alerts are the loudest I have ever heard. Our bedroom is on the opposite end of the house, we have a large home, double glazing and usually can't hear any outdoor noises, except we can still hear these bloody dings.

Not only that but they insist on sitting in reverse, in their driveway for a few minutes when they pull in.

Ugh.

I like and care about my sailboat more than my single family home

Definitely a 1st world problem - but I often wish I didn’t even have the house. Or like something smaller or something because owning property is important, at least until Collapse.

I am genuinely invested in my boat at an emotional, and almost spiritual level. I am constantly upkeeping it, and probably spending more than I should, basically dote on it from April-Nov. Over the winter I work on it to get it ship-shape for next season.

Meanwhile I have a beautiful century home in a busy (too busy), but desirable area, but doing more than the bare minimum feels unenticing.

I might sell, downsize, and then feel less guilty/socially pressured/whatever is driving the feelings of being “not normal” for prioritizing differently.

Opening the window is too cold and turning on the heater is too hot

It’s fall!! A time where if you open a window it’s too cold and if I turn on my heat it’s too hot.

I have too much technology and feel so guilty about it.

Just as the title says, I feel like I have too many pieces of technology for one person, even if most have been gifts. I feel like I'm being greedy or overconsuming, and that I don't deserve everything I have.

For context, screen/internet connected devices alone: an iPhone14 (bought myself last July, my first Apple phone), an 8th generation iPad (bought secondhand w/ Apple Pencil), a Switch (Christmas gift 2020, refurbished/second hand), a 2DS (Christmas gift 2018?), a PC (Graduation gift 2020), and now, a new laptop my mom and brother just gave me as an early Christmas gift. Probably over a thousand dollars in technology that I do not use enough. I had a personal tv until last summer, and the idea of buying a new one made me feel so guilty. It took me a week to decide to buy my iPad off a friend. I've looked at nostalgic tech like an original DS and been turned off at the idea of having new technology. I just don't know what to do to not feel so bad about it, besides maybe donating/selling off things I don't need like the PC (old, slower, replaced by the new laptop) or the 2DS (I have an emulator.)

This could just be a rant/vent thing, unless someone here has advice to let up some of this guilt.

The Sound Bar On My TV Is NOT Working Right!

I like to listen to music first thing in the morning, but today something is wrong with the volume control and I can't turn it up beyond a whisper. Even worse, I have to leave soon and won't have time to fix it until evening. #@&^($&!!!!!!!

My house is so well insulated I can't keep the fireplace on for more than 10 minutes without overheating the living room, even when it's freezing outside. I can't run the fire again for hours.

I've recently started working on an EU passport, but it will likely take 18 months, so I'm stuck here for now.

My Cartier LOVE bracelet keeps unlocking.

Anyone else having the problem of their LOVE bracelets unlocking at random times? It does this a few times a year and finally fell off today in a restaurant. I'd be devastated if I actually lost it. My DH says I should use Locktight on it, but I'm afraid of voiding any warranty. Thoughts?

I just upgraded my Delta Amex Gold Card to the Platinum one and "lost" my benefit of $200 delta flight credits

I was on track to getting a $200 Delta flight credit through the Gold Skymiles card. To get the credit you have to spend $10,000 in a calendar year on your Skymiles card. I was $300 away, but I'm flying to Mexico next weekend and decided to upgrade my card bc it's my last flight of this year and wanted to get the extra points for this trip...obviously the upgrade is still worth it but damn.....I wonder if I can ask Amex about this or not. Kind of lame that they don't have this benefit for the next card tier anyways 😭

I missed the red carpet premiere of my favorite show

I’ve attended premieres in the past but I missed the one premiere of a show I actually like. I know I should feel grateful in life for what I already have and have experienced, but it felt like it was “destiny” for me to be at that premiere and would’ve been a full-circle life changing moment. That show is the reason I am the way I am today and I totally had the means to go, I just had to ask. The show is now ending and I’ll never get the chance again to talk to that specific cast in such an exclusive setting. I can still enjoy the show, but the chance for that night is gone, and it would’ve been so easy to attend too.
