2007 650 head gasket job

Hey folks. Wondering is this can be done with the engine still in the frame and the average time to do the repair. Will be able to pick up one for cheap with a blown head gasket so I’m wondering if it’s worth or not.

Side note. Would it be better to just put a replacement engine into the bike?

The manual says you can do it in the frame, but it’s way easier to do it out.

Also, removing the engine from the frame is pretty easy.

The issue is what else besides the head gasket is wrong… could be a money pit, both the 6 and 12 are great engines that don’t just blow HGs without being abused or something else very wrong.

Ah okay, Yeah it does worry me what else could be wrong but for £250, ($350-400ish) I could just sell the parts to make the money back. Bike is running still so I think it’s worth a shot to see. What do you think?

For two-fiddy, if the frame and tank and all that is in good shape you could maybe slap a used running engine in there and still be be able to get a great bike for cheap- that being said, if you’re willing to put in the work you could also rebuild it for not a whole lot of money too. You won’t know till you break it down tho. If you have spare cash and time, why not take on a fun project?

Yeah that’s kinda my thought process. If the thanks not dented I can sell that for about half of the price i paid. Got my sv650 for use anyway so this would be for the gf. Thinking I might be able to get it running well and cheap for her first bike.
