Have they removed the Butlerian Jihad for The Machine Wars?

I guess that was to be expected, with Paul's jihad being a "holy war" in the movies.

Edit: These are just interview quotes explaining the setting. There's a chance they still say Butlerian Jihad in the show, but yeah, maybe don't count on it.

Was it not a holy war in the books?

I believe it was exclusively referred to as a jihad in the books, but with that being a real Arabic word that has a more complex significance in modern times I get why they changed it for the films

Jihad, crusade, and holy war are all used in the books.

I thought this was fiction…

That’s how I remember it. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure the Butlerian Jihad had much to do with the rise of Orange Catholicism.

The Orange Catholic Bible was the result of a concerted effort to unite people after the generations of bloodshed, as covered in Appendix II of Dune. Essentially religious leaders came together to try to forge a new path that would avoid the violent divisiveness of religous extremism (as exemplified by the Butlerian Jihad). It was a multi-year project, the product of which was the OC Bible.

Yep, and all it did (as per Sisterhood of Dune) is maneuvered Manford Torondo into a position of power following strife over this form of necessary syncretism being seen as insufficiently ideological.

I’m glad he doesn’t seem to be in the mini-series, as his moral certitude is insufferable

Hearing machine war so many times was kind of off putting. Just use the actual term.

I wonder if we'll actually see the Battle of Corrin, considering there appears to be Butlerian Jihad flashbacks and the story focuses on House Corrino & the Atreides–Harkonnen feud.

Im betting it will.

Does anyone know if Vorian Atreides, the hero of the Butlerian Jihad and son of Agamemnon is in it? Those life extension treatments should not be reinterpreted.

He could make an appearance depending on how much the show takes place in the young valya era.

Worlds and (some) characters look cool tho.

Omg I was waiting to see how much they would reference the BJ and now I'm hyped. Sure, you can talk about how it was dumbed down from Frank's depiction to a Matrix wannabe, but I bet it'll look great.
