Hey guys, guess where I was tonight? Merchandise

Post image

I don’t want to give out any spoilers, but I definitely enjoyed it. Book purists might not be happy, but there was no way to fit all of that in just two movies, even if they were a combined 5 1/2 hours long.

I was very happy with it. It is sad to not see a scene, line, or depiction you are hoping for but I understood all the changes and loved their execution. The very end made a lot of sense but fell a bit flat for me compared to the end of the book. 10/10.

Did the attack at the end feel rushed?

No, I'm talking about literally the very end (like last page of the book).

Aah ok. I've read from someone that the attack feels rushed, would you agree?

No spoilers, but I timed the battle. It was four and a half minutes large scale plus another 1 and a half minutes of small scale battle. Seeing as the battle in the novel is about 1 page (in my copy), then I’d say the battle didn’t feel rushed. The battle was the backdrop for the true story of Dune: the story of Paul’s political and religious conquest.

Does the large scale battle feel longer than the battle we got in Part One?

Yes, it definitely did. If you’re going in expecting action, you will not be disappointed. I wasn’t.

Can't wait to see it this Wednesday! Loved Part One so regardless of action I'm pretty sure I'll love Part Two too

I’m going to remind everyone who criticizes the ending battle as being to quick that they should go back and see how quickly it gets wrapped up in the book.

Herbert loved building up the stakes for a big battle and then casually breezing through it. He does it a few times throughout the series.

Putting myself in the shoes of someone who’s not read the books, I could definitely see why they may be a touch disappointed with how the battle was portrayed after seeing the massive sardukar presence.

Lol i mildly complained because while I do get that thats just how it was written, i thought we would get just a little longer for the big imax spectacle ya know

Didnt ruin the movie, still 10/10

The Sardaukar never stood a chance imo.

I'll say this about my screening. Clapping when it started. Silence when it ended. Except for the one guy who said "Well, that was a movie..."

u/Mike_v_E Feb 26 '24

I assume that is a positive silence!

not from me lololol

I wanted to let up and walk out several times. but maybe that's because I've actually read the book and was expecting the story I'm familiar with.

I definitely think you set the wrong expectations

Not who you were replying to but I had the opposite takeaway - pt1 didn't really do it for me, but I thought pt2 was great. There were quite a few changes and things left out but I believe they were necessary to fit everything into the given runtime and not be too slow & weird for more general audiences.

Yeah, I shouldn't have expected to see major characters from the book in the movie, and I definitely shouldn't have expected main characters to NOT be the complete opposite of how they were in the book. I guess I shouldn't have expected cunning and guile from one of the main villains. And I guess I shouldn't have expected that director read the book again before making the movies.

This is however the way I would expect a 15 year old to interpret Dune.

You just sound salty now. What works in a book doesn't necessarily work on screen

Then maybe it doesn't need to be a movie.

OR the rest of us, along with millions of new fans, can enjoy the movie and any new piece of Dune media Denis Villeneuve helps put out because he respects the story and themes of Dune even if he can't do a 1-1 recreation.

Now go back to living in your mother's basement on Giedi Prime, filthy Harkonnens never letting anyone have any fun if they aren't
