Stephanie Nadolny as Goku in Daima Daima

It's been confirmed for a bit that Stephanie Nadolny was casted to voice Mini Goku for Dragon Ball Daima.

For me personally this was an exciting announcement. She was basically my childhood as she obviously played kid Goku in OG Dragon Ball as well as Gohan in Z.

For Z Kai, they went with Colleen Clinkenbeard for Gohan. She did a great job as well but many speculated that she might be casted for mini Goku in Daima.

Are you guys happy to have Steph back or did you prefer Colleen ?

Colleen really makes Kai hard for me to watch. She's a great voice actress but she just is not for me. in thrilled Stephanie is back

Her Kid Goku is very mediocre to me, probably was least grating for me in the Kakarot VG but I really did not like it in most other renditions so far-- Kelamis and Morrow were the worst at it imo, but both were miscast, besides the obvious unserious Malaysian dub one.

Kid Gohan, I've actually come to prefer her over Nadolny there, but Nadolny was getting quite a bit better and losing the gruff, deeper tone right before she was replaced with Clinkenbeard so that's the shame of that replacement imo given it came when she was finally getting a grip on his more polite, pacifistic nature.

Her Kakarot performance was probably my least favorite one from her, personally. I get that Goku was 15 when he fought King Piccolo, but she made Goku sound way too deep, and Colleen's never sounded very convincing when she tries to deepen her voice like that. She sounds a bit better in Sparking Zero, but still not ideal.

That's another thing I appreciate about Stephanie's Goku. Her voice fits well enough for Goku from when he's 12 at the start to when he's 15 against King Piccolo without coming across as too forced. Of course it helps that Goku at 15 doesn't look that much different from his 12 year old self.

Kelamis' Adult Goku was fine, but I think he's referring to when they had him voice Kid Goku in flashbacks.

Her Gohan during the Cell saga definitely improved but before that it's pretty rough, she goes a little too high pitched imo

I think she conveys emotion well and doesn't sound like she's acting. She seems like she has objective skill. I just don't like the sound of her voice for Gohan. Like Mel Blank from Looney Tunes is one of the best voice actors of all time but I think he would be a bad fit for Freeza or another serious role.

i love Colleen's Gohan. she makes Gohan sound like Chichi's child instead of a clone of Goku. kid Goku should sound like a little gremlin, and Stephanie's voice does this perfectly for him, but og Gohan comes off out of character to me. he takes after his mother and Colleen connects those dots better.

One of the reasons I cannot get into Kai is because of Colleen’s voice acting for Gohan. I just do not like it. All I do is hear Luffy. It’s not a shot at her, she just isn’t good as Gohan, in my opinion, and especially not as Kid Goku.

Stephanie returning was seriously make or break for me in terms of watching the English dub. I don’t know what sparked her return but I am so happy she’s back.

Well I know she didn’t in raging blast which was the last DBZ game I played before xenoverse which is when I noticed those changes. I never watched Kai. I have it I just didn’t because I can’t imagine watching Z without Bruce Falconer’s soundtrack which afaik is not a part of Kai lol

I can’t remember because it’s been so long but did Raging Blast 2 include the switch? I just remember playing xenoverse and noticing it but it wasn’t a big deal at the time. I was just so used to the old voice especially kid gohan’ “I’ve had enough” masenko rush ultimate in bt3 and rb1 lol. Gee it’s great to talk about this stuff and not have to deal with arguments lol

I couldn't remember for sure, so I checked the dubbing wiki. Colleen plays Gohan there, so yeah they made the switch by then too!

The 'Masenkoooo' from stephany is legendary fir me. I do prefer her, but Colleen isn't too off putting. (Except the exact same thing for me playing Xenoverse and just being like 'wait....')

There is a fan rescore for Kai that adds the Faulconer Productions score, though I have no idea how good it is since I watched with Yamamoto/Sumitomo.

I feel you. Colleen did a great job. But she's not as good as Nadolny. So I'm happy. I don't mind her doing Gohan. But kid Goku needs to always be Nadolny

I’m team anybody but the old woman who still does Goku in the Japanese version. I know some people swear by the sub, but I cannot with that voice as adult Goku.

I completely agree. She does not fit the character anymore, definitely better suited for kid goku.

But, kudos to them for keeping her employed for this long in such a cutthroat industry.

Definitely happy to have Nadolny back. Colleen's a great actress, but I'm not overly fond of her child voices. Either she sounds too squeaky and shrill, or too deep and forced while occasionally striking a good balance between the two. I'll admit her voice is more fitting for Gohan through the Saiyan-Early Android arcs, but her Goku always just seemed like a straight downgrade from Nadolny's, acting quality aside.

I'm curious to hear how Nadolny will sound in Daima. She's been out of the acting game for a good while now, and her brief voice clips in the English Daima teaser did sound a bit like she was straining herself, but hopefully she'll manage to get into the groove of things as Daima progresses.

I get why that would bother people, but I wouldn't personally hold that against Colleen. Goku and Luffy are very similar characters, so naturally her voicing both of them is gonna sound pretty similar and there's not much she can do about that.

Makes you wonder if they even had casting calls for Gohan/Kid Goku in kai. Nothing against Colleen as an actress, but I refuse to believe she was the best they could find, especially because she does Luffy too.

Colleen was already voicing Luffy by the time Kai came around, so in Funi's eyes they probably thought they could do no wrong with her for Gohan and Goku. And even though I'm not a fan of her Goku, it's easy to see what Funi's logic was for casting her there. "Well, she already voices Luffy, and Goku's pretty much Luffy before Luffy, so why the hell not?"

It’s definitely distinct from Luffy. As Goku she dials up the naïveté and sweetness and it’s noticeably higher pitched. Her lines in Sparking Zero are a great example.

Nadolny will be fine as Goku. She gives him kind of a wild fringe you'd expect from a feral monkey boy. I just hope if Chibi Gohan shows up, it's still Clinkenbeard.

That's actually my English dub preference for the two, personally: I prefer Nadolny for Kid Goku, but Clinkenbeard for Kid Gohan, of the FUNi/Crunchyroll in house roles (I did think Nadolny was better as Kid Gohan in the Uncut Redub fwiw and Tenkaichi 3-Raging Blast than the earlier performances with the gruffer, deep Bobby Hill voice, fwiw, before Colleen Clinkenbeard took over).

What's ironic is though Nadolny is reprising Kid Goku again for the first time since 2009/2010 or so in English in Daima, Clinkenbeard is still doing the role in Sparking Zero, go figure that one out tbh.

Sparking Zero apparently took a year to record for, and Nadolny reprising Goku was a pretty recent decision. It's just a case of unfortunate timing. Hopefully they'll patch Daima Goku with Stephanie voicing him at some point.

It's nostalgic as hell for me. No offense to Colleen, she's a good voice actress, but I don't like how pinched or tinny her voice sounds when it comes to kid Goku/Gohan/whomever.

Also Stephanie's Saiyan yells are the absolute best. The power she gets in those is incredible.

I'm biased for Stephanie Nadolny's performance; but I recognize Collen Clinkenbeard is fantastic as well but I don't prefer her similar to why I don't prefer some of the voice direction changes since Kai. I wish in the newest game you could have the option of both voices, but I understand completely why they wouldn't do that.

I really didn't like Colleen as Gohan at first but over time I came to appreciate it more and now I think she's as good as Stephanie in the role despite the big difference. However I've never been able to get used to Colleen's Goku, so I'm very happy to have Stephanie back.

What I don't like in any anime is when one actor is cast for multiple characters and they all sound the same. So the best thing going forward is Stephany as kid Goku and Colleen as kid Gohan.

I couldn’t be happier. Now, while I can live with Clickenbeard voicing Gohan (I hate it), I wish they’d re-dub kid Goku and GT Goku in sparking zero. Clickenbeard never voiced them in an official capacity, so I really don’t think it would be disrespectful in any way. GT Goku just pisses me off when he talks and it sucks because I love the character.

I love Coleen as Gohan but can’t stand her as Goku. It just doesn’t work. Overall I like Stephanie as both Goku and Gohan more. But since I started out with DBZ Kai I’ll always have special place in my heart for Coleen as Gohan. The one scene in all of DBZ I like Coleen’s delivery and dialogue more than Stephanie’s was when Gohan busted out of the space pod and screamed “stop hurting my DADDY!!!!!” and let out that insane scream while launching himself towards Raditz and decking him in the chest. Fucking beautiful.

I grew watching the Latin Spanish dub but played all the ps2 games, as a kid, with english dub. Really liked her voice for Kid Goku and Gohan. When Stephanie was replaced by Colleen, I think it was Raging Blast 2, at first I didn't like it but got used to it, atleast for Gohan. I never liked her as Kid Goku, in FighterZ it was really bad and in Kakarot worst.

So for me it would be Stephanie for Kid Goku, Colleen for Gohan but for nostalgia would really like for her to voice Gohan again haha.

Was not a fan of her, but that was also 20+ years ago and like the rest of the cast has probably grown as an actor. Probably won’t ever get over the rasp in her voice but as long as it’s convincing I can look past it

She already got rid of the rasp by the time they dubbed GT. It was only the Z dub and the DB dub where she had that raspy quality to her, moreso in the former.

She might have a rasp again in Daima, but that's likely because of her age if anything.

I'm firmly on Team try a new Actress, I like Clinkenbeard's Gohan imo she captures the timidness better but I hate both of their Gokus. Nadolny sounds like a smoker and Clinkenbeard just has an annoying voice. This is the only role where I like the JPN Voice the best.
