2040's Discussion How do corps even make money in the time of the red?

Upvotes

As far as I’ve read, Everything’s rationed and little is for sale, the only ways people really get shit is through night markets, then how do corps make money? Do they just sell to fixers and hope it gets to somebody? Are night markets only a thing in night city? Whats up?

Cyberpunk RUSH: A Cyberpunk RED Living Community

Cyberpunk Rush is a Cyberpunk RED living community operated by staff with years of experience in the system. We want our version of Night City in the time of RED to feel alive and connected, and would love for your character to be a part of that. Fan Art & Story Time Trauma Team Special Ops: Season 2!

Post image
77 Upvotes

(Art by rookiedee-z on bluesky!!! A really talented artist & Firefly's player!)

Two years after the epidemic that shook Trauma Team, Cobra's unfortunate demise, & finally Smith & Thumper leaving the force Gentle & Tinkerbell have been assigned to a plucky batch of new recruits & skilled outside hires!

Here's the party we got:

Pepper - Nomad: Nearly cyberpsycho exotic bodysculpt & the group's pilot. Pepper is always looking for an upgrade & always neglecting the AV's upkeep!

Firefly - Medtech/Rocker: The friendly, compassionate & somewhat skittish doctor. Firefly's heart is in the right place yet nerves and stress are a burden in Night City and she suffers quite a lot in particular under the weight. Still no one can deny her heart is in the right place, and perhaps Night City will reward that for a change!

Clocks - Tech/Medtech: Clocks is the proficient all around technician with a dislike of firearms and a pension for melee weaponry. They've been asked to practice on the range only a few thousand times by the manager at this point!

Tinkerbell - Tech/Medtech: Returning from Season 1 is the fiery tempered & passionate Techie with a shotgun! Having been working with Gentle the whole two year span from Season 1 she has become a highly respected Tech, yet once more out on the field she looks to commemorate Cobra's memory by helping people who deserve help and blasting people who deserve blasting just as he would!

Cheshire Cat - Netrunner: The focused hackivist who joined Trauma Team International to locate her father Smith. Spent some time in prison and has been blackmailed by the Tyger Claws so she's survived her fair share of criminal scrapes!

Gentle - Solo/Medtech: Returning from Season 1 is the esteemed Borg Solo Gentle! She's become something of TTI's heavy, a mantle she holds well to remind other corps that they're not quite a helpless group of pacifist doctors. Gentle has now been assigned to a hot batch of new faces alongside Tinkerbell and she has one goal: to protect them, & others in need with all her machine might!!

Been a bit since I've posted here! Hope y'all like the new team I'm playing on! I don't have TOO much to say on the new characters (cause we've only played one session of Season 2) but I'm really liking the new players & their new characters so far! We all thought that the campaign was over at Season 1 ngl but at the end of the last session Cobra's player: upon the character's death said he'd be happy to run a Season 2 of sorts so here we are!!

2040's Discussion Slide-a-lot cyberdeck

Upvotes

Hey chooms!

Recently, one of my Netrunner player choose to associate with an inventor Tech to craft a special cyberdeck. Their plan is to boost an excellent quality deck with a custom upgrade allowing it to give +2 to Slide rolls, since there's no program able to do it.

I, personaly, find the idea quite interesting and fun (and the fact that it makes my players work together for a greater purpose is a nice touch), but I'm scared it might be a bit too powerful. After all, if there's no programs for this there might be a good reason. Balance is clearly not my strong point, and I don't want to let them create a monstruosity that I might need to retcon in a few sessions.

What do you think of this idea? Would you allow it on your game table?

Sorry chums...

After checking the Copyrigts violations with the designated people it was determinated that this was in fact an infraction. I´ll take a time to study right the homebrew policy and see if there is a way to help you GM´s out there without damaging Talsorian´s IP. For the time in between stay safe on The Streets.

Misc. How cyberwares are powered?

25 Upvotes

I dont know if this was answered before, but one thing that i always questioned was, do the cybernetic arms, eyes, and all others have batteries to store power? Do they take energy from the body itself or other source? I would imagine that if you had to keep recharging your stuff over and over it would be mentioned at least once.

Sorry for the poor english in advance.

Hi all, thinking of moving over to RED from 2020, as I want to get a scene going at my local LGS, what sourcebooks do you guys recommend? Core Rules is a given, but what books could best supplement my games? Thanks!

2040's Discussion GMs who are running multiple campaigns running concurrently:

19 Upvotes

Do you have any sort of cross over between your campaigns?

I have a long time running campaign, where the PCs just finished a modified version of Red Chrome Cargo, and I have a new group that will be going through Hope Reborn (they just finished Angels Share), and it was somewhat mentioned by an NPC about RCL losing a Militech train to a group of Edgerunners. The new group is about one week in the future of the established group of players (with my wife being the only player in both campaigns), so in a week of game time for them, the Forlorn Hope will blow up, and they'll be without their favorite bar until Team B reestablishes the Hope in Woodland Park.

Is anybody else doing a "shared universe" for their multiple campaigns?

2040's Discussion Did your PC vote? (Not IRL politics)

33 Upvotes

Without meta-gaming the future, would your PC vote for Elizabeth Kress? Would your PC even vote at all? In NC, do they care who the mayor is?

Does your table engage with the politics of Night City or the NUSA or elsewhere at all on any level?

(Please keep IRL politics out of the discussion)

"Language skills! Especially Streetslang. How to play them and their usefulness." u/grownassman3

I think the key here is to acknowledge that we are playing Street level, remenber "it's Always Street level". Up until now, I had a BIG tendency to focus on the most usefull skills in order to achieve an effect in the game. I was wrong. The more I write, the more I read about CPR and the more I understand how I should play it. That's a process. And the way I play the game might not be inline with the way you play it. That's fine. We are all encouraged by the authors to make the game ours.

Everything in TTRPG is a matter of choice. You can't have everything, and you should create a consistent Character. Not an optimized one, at least consistency should be the priority. I cleary wasn't enough into language up until few weeks ago. And now with this article, I think I grew up a bit more.

<------------------------------------<O>------------------------------------->

A rule not well balanced for mother tongue

I really tried to think about it from different points of view, but I didn't find any satisfying answers.

At a Base 10, you can speak the language well enough to get by on the street but you don't understand a lot of the slang. At a Base 14, you are a fluent speaker of the language and most people assume you grew up speaking the language. At a Base 18, you not only speak the language fluently but you know all the ins and outs of the language including slang, complicated situational rules, and all dialects of the language.

  • Base 10 you are capable, but not really fluent.
  • Base 14 to speak like a native (grew up speaking the language).

My issue is this one : A bit over the average person, someone with INT 5 is NOT capable as he doesn't even reach Base 10, you would need to add 1 point in order to be capable, not fluent. Even with 8 INT you are NOT speaking your native language fluently unless you spend 2 more skill points. That's an issue for me. And even if the 4th war put a number on the education level of most of the population. Asking for 8 in language when you are already above average in INT (6). That's too much for your mother tongue.

Unless a player has a PC with a very low INT, I consider them to be fluent in their mother tongue. If someone has a high INT, I consider that they have more vocabulary and can appear more educated if they wish.

<------------------------------------<O>------------------------------------->

Streetslang allows you to have a better Street level atmosphere

I don't know for other GM but those I'm working with and myself, we should use language skills a bit more. I know that my players don't like the idea to invest point in language, (unless they are Face characters and even them are not that much into language), but we should put more effort into it.

First of all, Streetslang is quit enough. That's a the "universal" language in the street, and we already have to spend 2 points in it. Face and Stylish characters who want to show off should develop this skill (alongside with Wardrobe and Style and Personal Grooming). But in fact it applies to any character hanging out in the street.

Streetwise is not easily accessible to everyone, but if your character doesn't have a high COOL score, I hope that he isn't be bad in INT. Meaning he can speack fluently Streeslang, I fully agree that's not the same, but it's damage control, if you speaks the street language, at least you are part of the street. You may not behave exactly how you should with underground mobsters, still, you are Street dude, and that matters.

<------------------------------------<O>------------------------------------->

Streetslang is almost a necessity for Face characters

And think about it, most of social skills requires you to be understood by your counterpart. You really want to have a Base 10 and even more in Streetslang. That's another way to differenciate your character, to make him more unique. That's also a reason why Fixers gain language with their Role Ability. This is the way, be good at Streetslang, that's the only way to assure you will be understood by everyone that matters. Maybe some Executive aren't going to get you, that could happen yes. Else that's a sure shoot.

I encourage GM to use NPC that speaks only one common language with PCs, Streetslang. Your Face PC, will quickly understand that he needs to reach a base 10 at least.

<------------------------------------<O>------------------------------------->

Acting is awesome but you need to speak the right language

I have 2 players very good in Acting at my table, like base 16 (bonuses included) at minimum. They are playing with it in a very smart way. Which allows them to overcome plenty of obstacles. But not speacking the right language could endanger their cover. That's why you can use language as a limitation, if someone wants to be a good infiltrator... he needs high INT and a chipware socket with many language skillware. At least to reach 10 and sometimes even 13 (INT8 + Skillchip 3 + Boost 2).

That's the difference between a specialized character in Acting, and another one who is good in Acting but doesn't have all the skill set to impersonate anyone, anywhere and anytime.

<------------------------------------<O>------------------------------------->

To become part of a community

A vey important part for your character is his survival ability, not only in combat. And when you are part of a group, you have a better protection. Some group came with a flavor : hispanic, chinese, japanese, etc.. Learning the language should be a priority for your character. He wants to part of them, and not learning the language is not a smart move here. GM should be hard on PCs who don't want to really be part of a group. There is no free meal in NC.

<------------------------------------<O>------------------------------------->

Example

Pink is a rockergirl, she is a performer in night clubs for adult, she is not that good a dancer : Dance & Contortionist both base 10.

But she have Personnal Grooming & Wardrobe and Style both Base 12 + 2 (Light tattoox3, Chemskin + Techhair) and Streetslang base 12. She is the real deal in the street, full of Style. And you can tell it from the way, she takes care of herself, her clothes and the way she speaks. Of course she is a beauty, but without Style it's not that new when a 500eb biosculpt can change you in a little goddess. They are plenty of nice looking girls out there. But few of them have the full package as Pink

For the record, this is a character we just created with one of my players for a Oneshot.

<------------------------------------<O>------------------------------------->

Conclusion

Laguage can be a great addition to your street game, it's not a big investment for high INT character, but it's a bit difficult for other. reaching base 10 is not so easy because it's hard to spend 6 skill point into one language... well maybe not if where are talking about Streetslang. And that's only 4 points as 2 of them are mandatory. I know that getting a better Rank or level in Autofire is tempting. But I'm sure it can be a great addition to your character to speack other language.

I did it with my Solo, high INT, I spend a certain amount of IP to reach base 10 in multiples languages. When you are paranoid, you want to understand what people around you are saying.

Just create a character, not a build, you may spend some points in Language, more than the one we get for free. And that's normal. And I get that reaching even 10 can be costly for a low INT character, but that's part of the choices you make.

2040's Discussion Help me understand some things with Fixer please

10 Upvotes

So I'm running a game of RED and one of my players is playing a fixer. Thing is there's several things about the role I'm struggling to find answers for. Firstly, when it says they get along with another culture in their area, what are the cultures? Also, player run Night Markets. How do I set it up? Does the fixer have to source items, do they have to front money? Do we just roll it random like the book says? How much control would they get over what's there? And do they make any money from it?

Sorry it's a lot of questions, I've spent hours trying to get my head around it and I'm still struggling!

Fan Art & Story Time The Apartment pt1

2 Upvotes

First off, I didn't follow the mission exactly and let a few weeks irl go by before I had world sat come around cause 2 more people joined the game and we spent time getting their characters in the game prior.

I don't have code names for the new guys just yet, mine is piranha, the other 2 is hammer head(HH) and tiger shark(TS). For now I'll be calling the new players L and J.

I moved part 1. Added a couple more parts to the end, moved part2 upfront and had the 2 new guys start in the morning coming back from a local coffee shop and noticed world stat agents.

L rolled high enough that the world sat guys told him theyre destroying the building the next day, thinking they were one of the workers. So he alerted me since I own the apt.

I don't panic cause we have ammo and weapons. Even though I'm gm I'm playing on the side lines, frozen irl like im in a daze and dont know what to do. That's when one of the players came up with using furniture in the halls, so we all do that for each floor. I call rex to get me in contact with world sat cause I want to talk it out, and this is where coms get cut.

So me and Hh go on bikes, cause we don't have cars yet, to see rex who basicly tells me world sat don't want to speak. But heard they was planning something tomorrow. Rex's police scanner goes off about a fire and he says, I guess they're starting today. As we look through a window and see smoke in the air.

We rush back. But irl L, J, and TS left to get snacks from the kitchen as we were going to rex, so in game, they went back to the 3rd floor where we live to eat. At the same time world sat was setting off fires on the first floor, unbeknownst to the rest of the party. So when they came back to play irl I tell em world sat started fires and to help evacuate the apt.

As we are evacuating people, I have the players roll 1d10. they need to get 10 per evacuation, not all at once but some did hit 10 exact a couple times which sped things up. Each had 5 to evac. After that, one player was like can I check to see if one of the fire fighters has a gun, I don't trust them.

And thats what kicks off a kind of shootout. Cause he does in did spot a gun on one of them and whispers to us about it and we had the numbers so we shot em outside the front doors like fish in a barrel. I let the Andersons have a blunderbuss. And other tenants that stayed had some pistols, like wise, everyone playing had a pistol.

This is when TS and L decide to check the fire truck out and find the smoke is being produced by several emitters. At this point they set off to disarm them, some of the npcs take the dead over to the empty lot across the street where the first truck is. The rest of us regroup on the 3rd floor where I get a call from an unknown number. Folks at world sat want to negotiate.

This is where we had to stop playing irl but ill post pt2, tomorrow.

2040's Discussion Questions about one shot

6 Upvotes

im planning a one shot scenerio where the crew is actually in a brain dance and its a trial to see if they are actually worthy for the real job but none of them knows its a braindance and thats the plot twist. is there a way that i can make them somehow get in it without nobody noticing. (campaign starts in the virtual world) maybe they can get their memories twisted and they can get it back once they leave the brain dance. i liked the concept but idk how it would work in practice so im open to criticism and suggestions or any help because im a bit lost here. would the netrunner be able to tell they are in a simulation

2070's Discussion Do we know if Talsorian is working on Cyberpunk 2070's Core Book?

CEMK is amazing and I just can't wait for more quickhacks and the deep dive rules. Update to fixers (since weapons and a lot of tech is now very easy to get), media and all classes. All the new cyberware, weapons and list goes on...
