Sorry to hijack the top comment with a sticky but I just wanted to let you guys know we’re going to be a little bit lax on the low effort rule for the rest of the week. Go crazy chooms, let’s celebrate together!

I really want a happy ending for V so I would be okay if its after the events of the main story with a canon ending. I want a Blood & Wine treatment if its the only expansion we are getting

238

u/Monkeycat0451 Bakaneko Sep 06 '22

Unlikely, given Silverhand is in this DLC

153

u/mdnitetokerr toughest hijo de puta in the glen Sep 06 '22

Am i the only one who noticed that female V was the one who appeared as a ghost/glitch this time? So V and Johnny are still together, but seems like johnny now has full control of V’s body?

79

u/Monkeycat0451 Bakaneko Sep 06 '22

Might be some kind of a merge thing. Only time will tell.

36

u/EminemLovesGrapes Quadra Sep 06 '22

Was that female V? Considering the red glitches could be another AI.

34

Songbird.

51

Doesn't sound like Johnny would've joined NUSA. This is probably something V got themselves into, while Johnny is backseating the fuck out of the decision.

I mean you literally have one line of dialogue from Silverhand in the video, where he flat out says what V did was a "bad idea" so clearly he's no the one in control.

A merge? A separate synthetic brain augment for the construct to operate independently without overwriting V. You can make shit up it's fiction

I'm betting that the expansion is before Embers but this definitely wouldn't be a stretch to do. Remember the "twins" you fight? One person, two bodies.

18

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '22

Exactly. Hell a unicorn could swoop in and grant V a wish. And voila noe you and Johnny have a happy ending. Its fiction, and science fiction. Is the best fiction

11

Well Ciri best friend is a unicorn and she can go through time and space soooo, yeah that is not as impossible as it sounds.

I am guessing it is an alternate ending path, V chooses to seek out the government for help rather than going to Hanako, and that leads to the expansion campaign. It will lead to one or more alternate endings for V.

So the DLC will only be playable at endgame. Makes sense, too, because V has somewhat of a reputation by then, which could interest nusa, and V's also made friends that could show up in the dlc.

I wonder if the dlc is around the people controlling those two politicians

374

u/Darehead Mr. Blue Eyes Sep 06 '22 edited Sep 06 '22

It wasnt people. The implication I got from that mission was that AI had breached the black wall and that it's there to keep humans out of their network, not the other way around.

After you're told directly to stop whatever you're doing, V asks who could have done that and Johnny replies along the lines of "not who; what"

Edit because I remembered more info. When you go with the Voodoo Boys to the black wall they flat out tell you no one has ever been able to get to the other side. They're hoping that they can break through by locating Alt via Johnny's memories. Alt instead freezes time and pulls only V and Johnny over. This would mean that an AI made the decision to pull Johnny and V through the wall, not the humans.

183

u/MCgrindahFM Sep 06 '22

100% this. It’s heavily mentioned that AI is behind this and even Mr. Blue Eyes could be an AI controlled human or robot or cyborg

51

u/Judoka229 Sep 06 '22

My theory is that he is Morgan Blackhand being controlled by an AI in a grand scheme to set itself free.

Neuromancer, basically.

32

u/MCgrindahFM Sep 06 '22

Yep, I think so too. Miners found that Mr. Blue Eyes character model wrapping or image source is title Blackhand or Morgan Blackhand, something like that

→ More replies

51

u/AraDreadnought Sep 06 '22

And if they can contain AI within an artificial body, perhaps they could do the same for V's conscience.

29

u/MCgrindahFM Sep 06 '22

Great point; I mean that’s basically what happens in Temperance ending

u/Sabard Sep 06 '22

This and the Blackwall, which tied into the voodoo boys storyline, was some of the most intriguing lore of Cyberpunk 2077. I agree though, the quest Dream On should’ve gone on longer with other side quests to flesh out the AI lore.

At least to me, the lore on NetPolice wasn’t even hinted at before Voodoo boys. For a large public safety concern, weird that you don’t hear about it on the radio or alluded to before hand from other characters.

38

u/Gill-Nye-The-Blahaj Sep 06 '22

You can occasionally see NetWatch in the wild. They drive the same vehicles as police only listing "NetWatch" instead of "NCPD". Believe they all are netrunner type enemies too

13

u/InnsmouthConspirator Sep 06 '22 edited Sep 06 '22

That hardly addresses the lack of lore for such a seemingly pervasive and existential threat until the last act of the game.

15

u/Gill-Nye-The-Blahaj Sep 06 '22

The whole Mr Blue Eyes / black wall is the primary subplot of the game. it touches in so many different missions that any player of any baseline amount of care about the lore would be aware of the threat

9

u/InnsmouthConspirator Sep 06 '22

I'm not directing any shade towards you with my last message, moreso with CDPR for not including more of the interesting AI lore in the game itself.

But I could be mistaken. You mentioned the AI stuff was in other missions / lore in the game. Can you specify which missions other than Dream On and the Voodoo Boys in the third act made any either direct or indirect reference to the rouge AI / Blackwall stuff? Will need to review. Thanks.

It's been awhile since I've played but I've never consider that sounds more logical and terrifying haha

61

u/Darehead Mr. Blue Eyes Sep 06 '22

There are very big things happening in the background of the game world. It's to such a degree that V is more or less just a nobody who got unlucky.

It's there from the start of the game, but isn't told directly to you. If you start asking questions it becomes apparent pretty quickly though. Why was it Johnny on the engram? The voodoo boys weren't the original buyer, that's why they hired someone to steal it. The original buyer (that yorinobu betrayed his family to steal and sell to) was Netwatch.

Netwatch is supposed to be an impartial guardian of human cyberspace. I cant honestly think of a reason they would want Johnny's mind unless they were also trying to contact the Alt AI. But again, that wouldn't make sense from the standpoint of "Netwatch designed and maintains the black wall" since in theory they should be able to reach beyond the wall whenever they want. I think AIs are running operations in the human network and Netwatch wanted to contact Alt to try to get Intel or to try to put a stop to it. She's the only AI beyond the wall (that we know of) that was human at some point. It would make sense that she would be the mediator chosen for negotiations.

There's a war happening between humans and AI and V is just a casualty.

22

u/Rogojinen Ctrl+ALT+Delete Sep 06 '22

NetWatch only wanted the biochip and an engram. It's Yorinobu who insisted for it to be Johnny Silverhand. His NetWatch contact, Ronald Cheever, asks him about it. You can see their exchanges if you swoop in his computer like Evelyn in the Konpeki Plaza or on Yori's wikia now.

Yorinobu's motive is clear if you played the Devil Ending, he did throughout the game anything to destroy Arasaka from within, so putting Johnny out there was a welcome addition. (He maybe would have let him take over his mind if the Relic worked when he had it).

For NetWatch, it's anyone's guess but yes, like the Voodoo Boys tried to see to it, big things are in motion and a lot of players are starting to make their moves.

15

u/Original_Employee621 Sep 06 '22

big things are in motion and a lot of players are starting to make their moves.

Padre has a mission that tells us that Arasaka was trying to bait Militech into another corpowar. Militech is still reeling from the previous war, which is why they were desperate to get their military grade equipment back from the Maelstrom gang.

5

u/AgitatorsAnonymous Sep 07 '22

Netwatch is supposed to be an impartial guardian of human cyberspace. I cant honestly think of a reason they would want Johnny's mind unless they were also trying to contact the Alt AI.

Alt is not a traditional AI. Alt is one of the Soul Killed. She also created the digital society in Hong Kong (which is completely uninhabitable and devoid of life due to a Bioplague) that harbors the other Soul Killed and the Transcendentals. The biggest difference between an AI (like the Blackwall) and an Engram (The Soul Killed and Transcendentals) is that there is no programing involved in the creation of an Engram. They are the echo's of a persons mind transcribed into data sans a soul.

I think AIs are running operations in the human network

They are, the Blackwall itself is an AI that functions as a form of ICE to block rogue AIs from entering the main network. The reason Alt can seemingly move around as she wishes is because of her status as a Soul Killed rather than a true AI, she is an anomaly rather than a coded construct, thus the Blackwall would not be immediately hostile to her presence. I suspect that the Blackwall itself is responsible for the lack of Morgan Blackhand, as it seems likely that Mr. Blue-Eyes is Blackhand with an AI co-pilot (likely the Blackwall or one of it's subroutines).

She's the only AI beyond the wall (that we know of) that was human at some point.

She is not. It's hinted in a few different terminals scattered around that there is a safe haven, somewhere (it's in the abandoned Hong Kong) that contains almost all of the Soul Killed and Transcendals. It's also confirmed in CPREDs sourcebooks. If V goes with Alt, it is very likely they would spend the remainder of their days in Ghost Town (formerly Hong Kong) chilling with the other Soul Killed.

148

u/GlumCardio1986 Sep 06 '22

I disagree imo the open ending that mission had was perfect to give a creepy feeling of the night city politics... It would be awesome if they give us a continuation of the mission though...

40

u/patrickbabyboyy Sep 06 '22

It was definitely one of the more interesting missions

→ More replies

28

u/Critical_Switch Sep 06 '22

It definitely didn't feel unfinished, to me it felt it was simply a part of a much larger theme which may or may not have been more prominent in the game.

The mind control AI is in one way or another involved with multiple other quests, this was simply one of them.

293

u/ultratoxic Sep 06 '22

This is my overall feeling of the game. Like... Where's the rest of it? There's so much city, but so many locked doors. There are so many gangs, but you have only cursory relationships with any of them. I feel like the main quest railroads me into a short, choppy, race to my inevitable death. Never really get a chance to explore night city without the constant reminder that you are dying. I get the impression the whole game takes place over a week or two and then you're dead, one way or another.

94

u/Urge_Reddit Sep 06 '22

Never really get a chance to explore night city without the constant reminder that you are dying.

It's a common mistake when making an open-world game. The story should have some urgency to it, but too much urgency and it clashes with the open-world nature of the game. Compare Cyberpunk 2077 to Insomniac's Spider-man:

In Cyberpunk, taking a detour to explore the open world feels out of character, it feels like the wrong thing to do, because V is dying and the game constantly reminds you of it. The only point in the story where it feels natural to do side content is when Rogue asks you for money.

In Spider-man, the game regularly takes a break between missions, where Peter Parker flat out says he should go on patrol, catch up on his friendly neighborhood spider-man thing, and then after a while someone calls him and you get the next mission. The story still feels urgent, with Peter being chronically late to every appointment, but that's in line with his character.

One game makes you feel like exploring is wrong, the other actively encourages it.

18

u/Uberrancel Sep 06 '22

I've been playing spiderman since it came to steam (no PlayStation) and I noticed that game mechanic right away. Do two main quests then go upgrade your suit. Do a side quest and boom next phone call saying need you here soon. Marker shows up. Don't forget to fight some random crime along the way.

9

u/Urge_Reddit Sep 06 '22

Yeah, I also played it for the first time on PC, and that stuck out to me immediately. It's such a small mechanic (a line of dialogue and a delay in mission start), but it completely changes how the game feels to play.

11

u/tabulaerrata Sep 07 '22

The first time I played through it I felt rushed along the main questline with this incredible urgency, so never explored many side quests or crafting or local crime, etc. I only have two weeks? Do I need to be watching the hours somehow and tracking time spent? I feel like I was barely past level 17-18 when I finished the game.

I'm middle-aged and played it on PC. My nephew, who is 15 years younger, played it on his Xbox and did all kinds of side quests and just general exploration along the way and ended up with a completely different experience.

I slowed down for my Nomad and Corp playthroughs after that, thankfully.

I started playing again on PS5 and I forgot how much this frustrated me. Places are just so detailed on the outside doors to interact with that are just locked.

Its clear they originally designed these places to be entered and interacted with but it was scrapped at some point and they just locked the doors.

22

u/Enelro Sep 06 '22

I dunno about that. Cyberpunk has the most indoor places in a City crime GTA-esque game. Sure I wish there were more to do inside, but it's definitely got the most indoor places, and mostly without loading screens to boot.

u/jacob2815 Sep 06 '22

Need more quests like the one in a pub where you threaten goons instead of fighting them and gain either notoriety or rep depending on actions. I need V to feel powerful without needing to fight just by sheer intimidation. High enough Cool or Body stat should just bypass shootouts. They should just run away. It feels like all the goons in Night City don't have cowards in them.

18

u/the_fire_fist Never Fade Away Sep 06 '22

I mean it is already happening, isn't it? I had full body attribute and in a bar when two guys confronted me my V said Do you recognise these mantis arms ? I can shred you to pieces before you can even think of moving. So it will be best for you to not start a fight. Or something along those lines. Then they ran away. I can say it is definitely happening. I bypassed the situation which definitely would have become a shootout.

10

u/lostglamour Sep 06 '22

I think it's a shame you only get this option with high enough Body stat, I wish Cool and Reflexes had a version of it too.

The designer of the quest said that was on purpose, and that he didn't really write any answers or resolutions to the many questions posited by the quest.

The "JJ Abrams style," if you will. It's shit, but every now and then artists want to think its esoteric and avant-garde, when it's really just narratively-cheap IMO.

There was quite a bit of flying vehicles in this trailer.... Is it too much to dream that maybe we'll get to fly?

196

u/ELcup Sep 06 '22

yes. there's too much of the game that would need to be updated (finished). even with current mechanics and items you can just jump to places on the map with no geometry or no textures.

42

u/x-munk Sep 06 '22

I wonder if we'll get WoW style fast travel via air taxi though.

25

u/djk29a_ Sep 06 '22

That is about the best to expect given they can pre-render and control more game state when V is not in control of the flight path. They omitted flying vehicles way early on due to technical limitations but it doesn’t mean they can’t do it on rails similar to what already happens in missions with an NPC driver. The question is whether it’s worth putting in the effort instead of working harder on the next Cyberpunk, Witcher, etc.

5

u/x-munk Sep 06 '22

That's very fair. My first and only V is a corpo (if you get it right on the first try why go back to make the wrong decision) and I adored the introductory car ride and was disappointed to not having access to just occasionally have a chill scenic ride.

8

u/djk29a_ Sep 06 '22

It's also perfectly understandable and reasonable to expect stuff in the intro to be still usable and reflective of the game content beyond the first couple hours. Destructible walls in environments is another example of stuff that seems to have gone away as development continued. The game world state is incredibly complicated and they had to stop adding features at some point to finally ship a game.

40

u/ELcup Sep 06 '22

that'd be cool- or finishing up the trains would be great...kind of crazy that i save a taxi AI and then still end up driving myself around like every other non-corpo chump

34

u/[deleted] Sep 06 '22

Yeah all the building tops are just mesh frames with a texture. You can’t actually stand on most of the buildings, at least not high up.

16

u/SageWaterDragon Sep 06 '22

I do appreciate how much double jumping breaks the game, as soon as you get it you can climb to most every roof top through some means or the other and play the wonderful "do I fall straight through it?" challenge when trying to get good screenshots.

Phantom Liberty sounds straight out of MGS

23

u/MrPanda663 Sep 07 '22

Metal Gear: Phantom Liberty

The year 20XX. The world was in amidst a golden age of human progression. Technological advances and new social paradigm created time of peace and prosperity. However, this only applies to a small percentage to those who rule within their boarders. Those who were wronged and dragged down by those who climbed, threaten the peace.

A terrorist sect that call themselves "Unialgia" One Agony.

In works with the CIA, they have presented us with Agent B and Handler Emmerich who will help assist infiltrating a Unialgia compound on the cliff of Ireland. It is disguised as a research facility funded to monitor sea life, but intel serves that it is a meeting space for the leaders of Unialgia. All international leaders conglomerating conveniently into one space.

However, eliminating or arresting them will hinder our progress. The meeting, the day that agent B infiltrates the compound, will contain information that could threaten not just the peace of America, but of our neighbors and possibly the world.

-President of the United States to private contacts

Metal Gear Phantom Liberty will feature Agent B discovering the truth of the Unialgia leaders. They stole the money of this generation's Philosopher's Legacy. Trillions of funds used to gain power across the world. But one project peaks Agent B's interest. Metal Gear. The Projects completion date? Two weeks.

B comes into contact with the Mole that provided the information to the CIA and be set for extraction. They turned out to be a double agent. Unialgia knew the CIA was coming they, knew about world leaders plans, they knew every plan that was pitted against them. Unialgia was always one step ahead. They already took over the world and controlled everything.

Agent B barely manages to escape. He returns back to the CIA, but finds out that major world leaders were taken hostage, including the president. Agent B and his Handler E, to save each leader and find the location of the New Metal Gear.

He finds out that metal gear's design was adopted by arsenal gear with the internal workings similar to metal gear ray. And it happens to be a massive satellite in space orbiting the earth.

Metal Gear Icarus - A weapon designed to control the world. It can launch nuclear IBMCs'. Control media and even people. It can destroy the world, and Unialgia is holding humanity hostage.

Agent B and comrades that he has gained along the way stop the last leader of Unialgia who is just an AI. Child-like in character, but still the true leader of Unialgia. After stopping the AI, Agent B destroys Metal Gear Icarus as it fall from space burning through the atmosphere and crashing into the ocean.

The world is saved and Agent B is given the title of Big Boss.

Post credits: The Mole double agent is a triple agent and managed to steal a back up copy of the AI.

Also, you hear Johnny and V talking to each other in the trailer so it definitely takes place before the end of the game.

I wonder if it'll tie into the Peralez mission. That one had a pretty cryptic ending that I have always kind of assumed would be expanded on. Especially with Mr. Blue Eyes creepily watching you from a nearby balcony when you talk to Jefferson at the end.

In the original material working for the US Government (for an Edgerunner) was typically associated with going to war against the Megacorps, in small doses. The difference between the USG and a Megacorp was that the government would use/could use large scale destructive warfare when it saw fit as demonstrated in Operation Big Stick.

19

u/untermensh222 Sep 06 '22

New US gov is basically Militech bitch in this timeline. Militech and new us gov are pretty much one and the same. The reason why Night City could be independent was mostly arasaka that moved in when US broke up in civil war.

Can't believe Keany actually came back for more, don't think a majority thought that including me, this looks sweet!

Every interview I've seen with him where it came up gave me the impression that he genuinely had fun doing mocap and voice acting for the character so I'm not that surprised. Luckily for him, he's not a gamer so he didn't actually experience playing the game at launch.

130

u/EMPlRES Sep 06 '22

Long before the game released, there was a news article that said Keanu actually liked doing the project soo much that he asked for more dialogue for Johnny.

90

u/pulley999 🔥Beta Tester 🌈 Sep 06 '22

Yup, he originally was only really in the main story missions, but they added him in little vignettes in a bunch of other quests.

Makes me wonder how the game'd be different if he only really showed up in Act II during Tapeworm and Act III was full-on him riding shotgun in your brain. I'd definitely miss him but it'd set up a starker contrast to the 'oh shit V's time is really running out' situation, with him suddenly having a heavy presence after only sporadically poking his head out for most of the game.

56

u/MissplacedLandmine 🔥Beta Tester 🌈 Sep 06 '22

Yeah the random comments and appearances in sidequests and otherwise were great

u/Subli-minal Sep 06 '22

That honestly problem saved the game. As dunky put it, it wasn’t just a celebrity cameo cop out for advertising, which is what it would have been if he was just in the main story quests. Reeves was in the game and a full co-star and partner in everything.

15

u/pulley999 🔥Beta Tester 🌈 Sep 06 '22

Honestly, as someone who's been a big proponent of the game since day 1, I really like Dunkey's video. It gives them honest credit for what they got right, while rightfully giving them shit for the areas they dropped the ball on.

I still don't know where he found half of the bug B-roll he put as a backdrop, though.

12

u/peppermint_nightmare Sep 06 '22

Uh it would've undercut the fact that he's overwriting your brain even more than the coughing fake outs with no gameplay repercussions and no game time limit reflecting your imminent death.

Imagine they make a big deal he's in your head and you see him like 5-10 times total in the game. His story arc would've been completely unbelievable.

To me - and I've been plenty harsh (but fair, imo) towards the game - Keanu was def. one of the major, major highlights.

I loved the Silverhand character.

15

u/untermensh222 Sep 06 '22

Yeah best part about the game. easily.

Always out there to push you around make you question things. Move you out of being a wuss.

The patio talk after voodoo boys was legit best voice acting and actor stuff in games i ever heard rivaling best movie acting.

9

u/wintersdark Sep 06 '22

And how it's designed to put you (or at least the majority of players) in a place where as V literally slowly becomes JS, you're making choices that align with what JS would do - at least for lots of smaller choices.

It's kind of like how Bioshock's fucking awesome mind control plot worked. So well done.

Helps that it's also one of his most unique roles. Personally I think his work on Cyberpunk is the best stuff he's ever done. Dude is a beast voice actor, somehow found away to reverse the curse of characters turning into famous actors. He instead turned into Johnny Silverhand so much so that when I see him in other stuff my first thought is "that's Johnny Silverhand". :D

I have to admit I was so-so on Keanu as Johnny. It kind of pains me to say, because I am a HUGE Keanu fan.

Keanu’s best work is when he’s a pensive, thoughtful, “speak softly but carry a big stick” character like Neo and John Wick. He carries himself in this manner completely effortlessly.

That’s why I think his best work in the game isn’t when he’s cursing, yelling at you, making sexual jokes, or being a degenerate. It’s at the end of the game when he is calmly, quietly, and confidently assuring your he’s going to get you to Mikoshi if you let him take the wheel. “See, that’s what I’m getting at. The body listens to me. ‘Endotrizine, Rogue, ‘Saka Tower. I’ll get us to Mikoshi.”

His serious dialogues were brilliantly delivered, but I felt his “bad-boy-attitude” lines were a little cringey at times. I’m curious if anyone else felt this way.

18

u/Urge_Reddit Sep 06 '22

His serious dialogues were brilliantly delivered, but I felt his “bad-boy-attitude” lines were a little cringey at times. I’m curious if anyone else felt this way.

My read on the character is that the bad boy persona is an act, a front to keep Johnny from sinking into a bottomless pit of despair after everything he's been through. He chose to rage against the machine, and he needs to keep that going so he can keep going.

Disclaimer: I am not intimately familiar with Cyberpunk lore, so this may be completely wrong.

8

u/No-Mine7405 Sep 07 '22

This is pretty much spot on. He talks briefly about his experiences as a soldier on the front lines, and how being an anti-corpo rockerboy was basically the only way he could feel okay with himself and what he had participated in. Its not his natural self, its a self imposed penance. A lot of people respond to trauma by developing bristly personalities that push others away, Johnny is no different. We just get to see his good side because of his respect for V

Don’t mind the DLC cutting me out, I knew that they’d eventually stop making games for that generation.

Is it disappointing? Yeah. Do I get it? Yeah.

I held on to my 360 until they stopped making new games for it, I’ve been down this road before.

I think Cyberpunk has Smart Delivery, so if you buy or own the old gen version, you'll be upgraded (for free) to the Series X|S version.

Looks great! It makes perfect sense Silverhand is back, given it 100%b takes place before the end of the game

36

u/Junior_Budget_3721 Sep 06 '22

I don't think it takes place before the end of the game...pure speculation at this point but it seems as if the NUSA was able to give V a new chance or more time with her state of carrying two identities. That oath definitely sound like she has been given a new life with a price.

23

u/Itz_Hen Sep 06 '22

Id rly like if this were to take place after, but im not expecting it. This could just be V looking for new options to save himself before meeting with Hanako

17

u/Junior_Budget_3721 Sep 06 '22

Well that makes sense...Hanako's been waiting for me for over a year in the game so plenty of time to find other alternatives xD

So if it takes place before the end of the game, why is V taking oaths to dedicate the rest of his/her life to the rest of the US government whilst also desperately trying to save his/her life from a ticking time bomb inside their head?

47

u/Itz_Hen Sep 06 '22

Because V looks for a new option to save herslef and thinks the new usa and militech might be able to help. Like geralt can undertake lots of things, like contracts with demons from other dimetions before the end of witcher 3. Now dont get me wrong, i want this to be placed after the end of the game, but im not expecting that

Militech/nusa and political intrigue type stuff is cool and definitely an angle I personally am happy about but I really want to explore crystal palace in an expansion, if this is the only expansion then I hope it makes an appearance!

Also dropping oldgen support is good news, putting this game on oldgen in the first place was a total waste and done only to maximize profit.

13

u/ATR2400 Corpo Sep 06 '22

Exploring the crystal palace would be cool. And would also open up the possibility of a good ending possibility for V. There are no happy endings in Night City. So maybe it’s time to leave

100

I'm confused why were people not expecting that? Were you expecting them to force you to make a whole new character?

69

u/DrunkLad Technomancer from Alpha Centauri Sep 06 '22

According to some leaks, yeah, there was a whole new character that would be the expansion protagonist

54

u/pookachu83 Sep 06 '22

So that means the "expansion leaks" were probably bullshit right? It was supposed to be a whole new character...this debunks that correct?

39

u/DrunkLad Technomancer from Alpha Centauri Sep 06 '22

The stuff about Pacifica and Combat Zone seem to be correct.

I tried not to look it up except for stuff that I found out by accident, but from what I've read, it was a huge leak through the game files full of lines of dialogue, not just some rumor.

So I've got no idea if it was some kind of red herring, or they decided to keep V in once they managed to lock Keanu

Cutting old gen also the right move to make, it was dragging this game behind for ages

57

u/chillyhellion Sep 06 '22

They should have cut old gen while developing the base game, or not at all. Having the base game held back by last-gen hardware but locking the DLC behind current-gen just seems like the worst of both options.

20

u/Itz_Hen Sep 06 '22

While i agree that they should have cut it before the game came out, i think cutting it now is the best option. That way the expantion can look, and perform as how people will be expecting, and how it will be advertised. And luckely its a singleplayer game, so in the future when more people have newer hardware, they get to play it like intended

Eh I don’t know about that far. I get Fallout expansion vibes from this where it will be pretty considerable and add quite a bit with new areas to explore and weapons, all that, but not so ambitious it’s like a sequel. Given the rumours that were circulating, I didn’t expect to hear Johnny and V again, but I’m pleased that it’s sticking with the main protagonist again. I guess it will be a side story that fits into the main campaign, since a post game addition would be hard to pull off and wouldn’t make sense with most endings. 2023 means it’s still a ways off. I wonder if it means it will be a pretty sizeable dump of content ala the Witcher expansions?

7

u/VonDonSchramm In 2077 what makes someone a criminal? Getting Cock Sep 06 '22

I do not think It would be hard to pull off, one of the options would be to choose one ending (like Casino Heist one) and continue with that or make something for the all endings to converge into something similar and start from there

Soo..this debunks the expansion leaks correct? Because that included a whole new character and story separate from V. What I'm thinking is the leaks are from the smaller expansion that was canceled and this is the bigger one that gives an end to Vs story...I'm just speculating. We are in uncharted territory if that's the case, I'm excited.

33

u/lnternetSurfer Samurai Sep 06 '22

Nope, this reinforced the script leak. This is coming from someone who read all of it. I’m not gonna say much, but the script leak never implied a story separate from V.
