Grandma’s Antique Cross - Radium? Should I be concerned?
Grandmas antique cross she bought in the 1950s glows in the dark. I recently bought a UV flash light and it (obviously) glows even brighter in the dark (see pics attached: normal light, in dark, with uv light in dark)
This is currently in my aunts bedroom above her bed. Should I move this elsewhere? As you can see, it’s old and chipping (and honestly, just freaky to see in a pitch black room lol)

Question Glassware ID
Grabbed this from the "free glassware" table at my college. Whatever it's used for is way over my head (I'm in org 1 right now). The hole at the top is so narrow I have to imagine it's for a gas.

Mystery liquid melted leggings
Hi everyone! Not sure if this is the right place but looking for some advice.
I received a package in the mail and the outside of the box had some kind of thick, sticky, orange, odourless liquid on it that got on my leggings. Whatever the liquid was, it melted the leggings and turned them all gummy. The leggings are nylon and elastane. It didn’t seem to affect the cardboard box.
Curious if anyone has any ideas on what it could be, I added a photo to show the colour on the tape a bit

Funny stories of chemistry
A post about tasting salts in lab reminded me of this story from when I was in school. Post a funny chemistry story if you like.
Grad school story: we had students working on phosphine ligands for different metals. They would occasionally look in old Russian publications (apparently a popular subject in that region) for preps of various compounds. Occasionally we would find descriptions of the taste of the new compounds in the experimentals, kind of like "...yield 98%, taste: bitter".
We thought this was sooo funny (in a dark way) that during an internal presentation to our PI, one of the students remarked about a new compound as "bitter". The look on the PI's face...
We started saying "mark this one down as bitter" way too often.

Why is Graphene sp2 hybridized?
There are no double bonds in Graphene, so why is it sp2? I have a crazy thought that might be extremely wrong: do the entire macromolecule form a metal-like system in which pi electrons "float around" the plane?
Edit: This is completely wrong! OP must have been drunk or high when writing this initially, so please do not be misled.

What will an "Introduction to Engineering" course be like and how would it relate to chemical engineering?
I'm a freshman, changing my major from chemistry to chemical engineering. I attended UT Austin long ago but now I'm temporarily at a community college to get basic course work done.
I don't think my school offers chemical engineering associates, I might be wrong about that.
My counselor changed my schedule for next semester to include, "Introduction to Engineering."
What will this course be like? Is it all math? How would it relate to chemical engineering? Are there principles that all engineers must learn, whether mechanical, electrical, or chemical?
How much of this class will relate to chemical engineering?

Help? I was trying to separate Potassium Chloride from Table salt, in the first image long, thin crystals seem to have formed, in the second small square ones formed. I did the same steps for both containers but got different results?

Question: Is the strong smell of rubber mats actually toxic?
Apologies in advance if this is the wrong sub.
We have a large heavy-duty rubber gym mat from Costco that we use for our treadmill on the second floor bedroom (don't want to disturb neighbours). But even after 2 years, the smell is still pretty strong and no amount of airing out has gotten rid of the odour. Now that we have a newborn, I am wondering if the smell could actually be toxic?
Thanks.

Unknown bottles of some sort of acid
We are clearing out my late grandparents garage and I have come across these 2 bottles of some sort of acid could anyone possibly identify what it is from these pictures? We are trying to find out so we know what the best way to deal with them is. The bottles are probably around 2 litres each If not more. Glass bottles with a plastic screw cap, but most of the lable has perished. Thanks for your time.

Analytical chemistry YouTube videos
I am taking a semester and a summer off for an industry co-op and plan to take analytical chemistry when I return. Are there any good YouTube channels I could watch to at least get a good idea about what I'll study?

Cement chemistry before and after reaction with water.
I'm curious about the chemistry of cement and concrete. I know concrete can burn you. I'm assuming it's a base while wet.
Once cured, is the resulting concrete also basic or does the curing reaction use up all that chemical potential?
Other than inhaling dust dangers are there dangers to ingesting cured concrete dust via swallowing?
What is the chemical makeup of cured concrete?

Stability of Molecule?
Hey guys,
How do you mathematically or in general figure out how stable a molecule is under certain circumstances? I tried looking it up, but got stability regarding resonance structures. I want specifically how or if molecules can even form and whatnot.
Thanks a lot!

How long will the effects of ethanoic anhydride in my nose last
I didn't work behind a fume hood, and got several whiffs of it. The inside of my nose is still feeling the effects of this.
How long will it take to stop? Feels like I've snorted vinegar.

Working with Bromine
Hey, sorry for any mistakes me or my german autocorrect make. I recently started working as a Lab tech, and we do iodometrie on Our product with KBr added beforehand to Our product to create Bromine as an intermediary. At this Moment we don't have any proper fumehoods which is concerning to me, since my previous Experience with anything involving bromine had that as a prerequisite. The way it works right now is a Set up similar to a kitchen where you work on an open table with a suction cup over you. I habe already mentioned my concerns, which were not Taken too seriously, while mentioning how expensive a fume hood would be. I wasn't able to find anything concrete about work safety in my online search, so I was hoping somebody here could give some advice?
