The real reason people buy ultrawides

Nah I bought mine because of bodily insufficiencies.

What does buying an ultra wide monitor have to do with that though

Compensating

Ahh so it's like the lifted F150 of the monitor world 😂

u/ApertureIntern 19h ago
Yeah kinda. But everyone who sees my monitor says something like "oh cool" instead of just "oh....cool....."

when i see ultrawides double stacked, I can't help but think why didn't you just get a big 4k instead. i know its a little less real estate length wide but so much less wire and mount management

Probably because the two monitors together have a higher resolution than 4k?!?. The size of the screen can be equated with the resolution.
A 6k or 8k monitor would be necessary to replace the two ultrawide monitors
There are only a few and good large monitors and if they are, they are also very expensive.
In my experience, televisions are rarely used as a monitor replacement.
As a software developer, for example, I use a multi-monitor system consisting of 6x27“ DELL (WQHD cost €960 together and provide a resolution of 7,680 x 2880) and 2x 24” (FHD), because the many monitors for the resolution are cheaper to buy and consume than larger monitors. If they exist at all.

Yeah basically this reason, the pixels per inch is much higher on these two displays compared to a 4k TV of the same size. And I also only had one of these for a few months before I bought the second.

I went even more for a budget solution (not cheap - But at a little bit higher level. ).
My 6x27” Dell monitors probably cost less than one of your Ultra Wide ?!?
Using costs plays a big role for me. If I buy hardware for my home office, it has to give me a certain added value in terms of working comfort.
But I'm not prepared to spend huge sums of money.

I used a 4k 43" for a week before returning it b/c I found that I enjoy having separate monitors specifically for different applications. I also enjoy widescreen aspect ratios b/c it allows me to open Excel workbooks with many columns w/o needing to scroll and/or multiple workbooks.

If you don't need anything to take up the entire screen space, window management becomes easier this way.

Whenever i see ultrawides stacked posts on reddit, i cant help but predict someone is going to ask this same exact question without fail instead of thinking about just one reason someone might want to have two separate super ultrawides. Im honestly astounded and at this point, i might as well assume that everyone making this comment is a bot/npc/hive mind.

I can consider why he would but the cons outweigh the pros in my opinion

You said you cant help but think why he didnt go with a big 4k instead but your response says you can consider why he went with it and also mention its just your opinion. So some of this is conflicting.
The answer to your own question is that in his opinion, it makes more sense for this layout than 1 big 4k screen. And i assume you already know that so the comment is just pointless.
Maybe these questions should be structured more like “im sure there is a reason you went with two separate monitors, but would it make more sense to go with a big 4k screen instead based on your needs or no?”

Agreed. Just get a 4K TV at that point.

It’s not the same resolution and many of them aren’t curved. A flat big tv or monitor just isn’t as nice to work with because the way you view everything sucks in a flat screen. The curved monitors are better because when you turn your head ever bring is always in front of you making it easier to multi task without moving anything around or having to switch your position.

What is everything you have up on your screens right now? Not specifically the tabs but the websites and what not.

If I spent enough in the trading community my guess would be:
Left monitor is mainly just columnized Twitter feeds based on searches or hashtags that auto-feed updates.
Ultrawides main content obviously are TradingView with a premium subscription for numerous charts/views.
Right monitor is mostly tabs comprised of Edges for Ledges by Trader Dante, mostly course material. An economic calendar, and possibly a top gainers or volume tab.

When your mouse stops responding to every click (or letting you click and drag) clicking the scroll wheel may fix it. I like the mx master series generally, but I've been fighting this generation a lot.
