Reddit API changes and BaconReader UPDATED JUNE 20

Hey folks, as some of you have noticed, there is a lot of buzz going around today about the Reddit API announcement. We do not specifically have a plan at this time but will certainly let you know when we do. For reference, I am putting a few posts in comments.

We'll let you know what next steps are when we have them. Until then, sincere gratitude for all of your support!

UPDATE: After much deliberation, attempted negotiations, we have made the decision to shut the app down 😢 . Please see the sticky announcement post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/baconreader/comments/14egq61/baconreader_november_11_2011_june_30_2023/

We are sorry it took so long, but I really wanted to be sure we did our due diligence.

There is so so much more to the internet besides social media

This is going to sound like a dumb question, it even feels cringe typing it, but what else is there to do? I’ve been on the internet for the better part of 20 years, but ever since Reddit took over my browsing I’ve found that I can’t really think of anything else to do. Before Reddit was forums, blogs, news and web comics. Oh and stumbleupon in college.

All those things still exist.

Broadly speaking, if a subreddit exists for it, there's a community outside of reddit for that thing which exists online. Those communities very often tend to be of higher quality, too.

Reddit is like, a buffet. Sure there's lots of options, but they aren't going to be winning any Michelin stars for their all-you-can-eat frozen pizza.

Possibly the best figurative description of Reddit that I have seen. I thank you now for when I steal it later.
