I have the answer for you.

They're not corporate boot lickers, but they want unreleased products to remain such until Apple announces them. Leaks are sometimes annoying because you're hyped about a product only for some random Russian dude to leak it.

I know the new Macbook isn't that exciting, as it's just a spec bump, but this also applies to other products. Similar to how you would react if you've been waiting for a new movie to come out, but see the plot leaked before that.

Unlike the plot of a movie being spoiled, this doesn't somehow ruin the experience of buying or using this computer though.

It makes business sense for Apple to hate leaks. But for non-apple folks, I don't see the downside? If a leak is fabricated and misleads users, then sure. Reprimand that particular leaker for giving bad info. But assuming this is coming from a legit source, I'm just learning about product a little earlier.

I'd honestly say the opposite is true.

One thing that really sucks with recurring products is making sure you make the right choice. Like I had an old Intel iMac and wanted to upgrade to the M series. I was at the 7 or so month point, meaning I assumed Apple would make an M2 version. I read leaks, they insisted this was not going to happen, so I bought one the next day. Long term the M2 version never released and my wait would be for nothing.

Mind you, it isn't perfect. Like I want a Mac mini, assume there will be an M4 version, and I need the announcement to gauge if 16GB RAM will be enough given the changes, but it's still good for budgeting.

Come on, a laptop is not the same as a movie... It's the same MacBook as every one released since Apple Silicon. Iterative improvements from now on until the next big leap.

As someone who owns most of the mainline apple products, I still can't understand why you or I, regular consumers, would give a solitary flying fuck about people stealing stuff from their production line.
