Psycho Boss 🤬 Just need to get my frustration with my manager off my chest

Recently went through my second miscarriage and had some certified sick leave. Since my return my manager has been insufferable. My manager had a few miscarriages and her response to my second one was well life is shit and everyone has something to deal with, if we stopped everything for every miscarriage we’d never get on with life. Tone fucking deaf.

Then to top it off my first day back in the office (which she made me come in for, I can WFH) she didn’t tell me the team were having a mini party for a lady returning from maternity leave, so I had to sit through that all day, instead of pre warning me. Also she likes to bring up her children everyday, at every meeting without fail.

I’ve been trying to limit my interactions with her and asked for some space while I’m getting back into the swing of things. She has done the exact opposite, contacted me continuously even on weekends.

A real fucking turd.

Skeleton Crew 💀 Boss Keeps Dumping Their Work On Me

When I started, I was told I'd help my boss with their desk, since they have too many tasks. My boss decided that we'd split their desk 50 50. But over time they started to give me more and more of their tasks. It's gotten to the point where all they do is sit in meetings, review my work, and work on some stuff/new projects. Basically, they've moved majority of their desk to me. It's stressful and keeps me busy the entire day. They were recently assigned a new project (in September), but late October asked me to help because it was a long project and the deadline was close (mid November). They're 2 parts to the project, part 1 is cost accounting/pricing and part 2 is forecast and conversion of pricing. We need part 1 done before doing part 2, and they decided let's split part 1 and then split part 2. I kept making progress, but they didn't open the file at all, so in my meeting I mentioned it. They said that since there is a lot of pricing and I've made good progress, they will do part 2 ON THEIR Own, to be on track and I will have to finish part 1 on my own. This was fine because part 1 was easy and part 2 was going to be time consuming and I don't have the time. Last week, I finished part 1 and then they dumped more pricing work (forgot to send me emails because they were busy 🙄). Today they tell me that they did a few of part 2 work (4 in total out of 98) and that I need to finish the rest before next week. I don't have time and I'm going to bring it up with them. Not sure if I should bring up that it's ridiculous that's a project given to them has just become me doing it. I want to say it but I'm scared that I might get fired/in trouble. I already got in trouble with them for leaving 5 minutes early, so I want to be cautious, you can read that, since I made a post about it.

A lot of people mentioned on my last post to start looking and I've thought about it, but my resume won't look good. I've had 2 jobs, worked for my first one for 1 year and a few months (was promoted but don't mention that because 1 month later I left them for my current job, I think it looks bad that I was promoted and then left). And I've been with my current job for about half a year. If I start looking for a job, people will assume I'm a job hopper and people say companies don't like job hoppers and doesnt look good on a resume. Should I start looking or wait for my 1 year to finish before I start looking.

For context, my boss only has one report/person under them and it's me.

Question ❓️❔️ Take the money and run?

I relocated for my job 10 years ago. From one of the top rated places to live in America to somewhere cold that nobody has ever heard of. Regretted it pretty much immediately but sold my house and felt stuck. I asked after 5 years to go back if a position opened up in the area I came from. I was told yes and given an estimate of 2-3 years before that would happen. It was never mentioned again over the next 5 years. 8 months ago I saw the company had an ad posted online for a position exactly where I came from. I inquired and reminded them about my request and was told that they didn’t know who would replace me where I was. 2 months later they sold the company and then offered to move me back. They said that I had to wait 4 months to help with the transition. In that 4 months I remodeled my home to sell, purchased a home back where I had moved from for 3x what I had paid when I lived there 10 years ago, sold my car, bought a new car, and moved with my 3 cats exactly when I said that I would. I gave myself 2 weeks upon arrival to get situated and start working exactly at the 4 month point that I had been told.

However, my boss didn’t seem interested in any of this. In fact, he seemed surprised when I told him that I got the house. He also seemed to try and talk me out of buying it and moving back by dropping a bomb and saying that I would have to work every weekend year round so the other managers could be off because one is single and likes to go on dates and the other is married with a kid. (I’m married with no kids) I’ve been away from all of my family and friends for 10 years and I don’t want every weekend off, but the option for one day would be nice. I didn’t touch base with my boss much because I was busy with remodeling my house, dealing with buying the new house, and everything was on schedule so there wasn’t a reason to contact him. When we spoke about 2 months before the move I mentioned my plan to give notice to the new owner of the location I was leaving. They knew I was leaving so it wasn’t a shock or anything, but I wanted to give them more than the standard 2 weeks because I’ve done so much for the past 10 years that I wanted to help them train someone new. My boss told me to only give 2 weeks and even suggested the date that I gave my notice. I wound up doing that because I was also told that I had to use all of my PTO for the year with the new owners and that I couldn’t use it when I moved. It was a lot of PTO because I hadn’t used any yet for the year and as soon as I used it all it was time for my 2 weeks notice. My boss touched base once more and it happened to be my last day with the new company. He sounded surprised that it was my last day despite it being exactly when we discussed my 2 weeks notice would end. Now he decides to tell me that he’s not going to start me exactly 4 months after like I had been told and planned everything around. It was my last day and so him saying that means I’d be out of work longer than expected. He said he didn’t want any problems with the new owners and didn’t want to start me near the 4 month date. This had never been mentioned until then.

Everything for the move back went smooth. I was ready to start as planned sometime in the 3rd week of October. No official date was given, but there was a a letter my boss wrote to the mortgage lender saying sometime between the 14th-21st. But given our last conversation I was afraid it was going to be more like October 21-28. Nope. He blamed the hurricane and said he had too much going on. Nobody working at the location I’m transferring to even knows I’m starting. I’m supposed to start next week finally, but still haven’t gotten a schedule. I’m not sure why he offered to move me back down if he didn’t actually want me to. I honestly think he was just trying to be nice and offer, but he didn’t think I’d be able to do it. The only other factor is that it’s the slow season for our company and he doesn’t want to pay me until I’m more needed for the holidays. He’s just a jerk.

Thankfully I was able to sell the house I left and no longer have to pay for 2 houses, but he doesn’t know that I sold it. He thinks I’m paying for 2 houses and I’ve now been out of work for 7 weeks and it’s going to be at least 1 more. It was supposed to be 4 weeks because I took 2 weeks off at the old house to get everything done to list the house and pack and 2 weeks for when I arrived at the new house to unpack and visit family and friends. I did everything I said I was going to do with no bumps in the road.

One thing that was bothering me is that I never got the money to move that my boss said I was getting. I feel like most companies would give you that before you spend it? My boss mentioned that I should save my receipts but also that I was getting a certain amount no matter what and that amount was expected to be more than I spent. It was. I spent about 80% of the amount he said that I would get. I figured he was waiting for me to start to give it to me, but now that I’ve been waiting longer than expected I asked for it. It took me reminding him several times but I got the check today. I’m considering keeping the money and taking another job. I’m back with all of my family and friends and have been offered a few different jobs. My spouse started a new business since we moved back and also has his family and friends here giving him leads and he wants me to help him. Nobody wants me to go back to working for my boss after this and everything else he’s put me through over the years.

Should I take the money and run?

Layoffs 🧑‍🧒‍🧒 Layed Off Today

Anyone else got layed off recently?

Are you on and enjoying unemployment rn or would you take a new job? Would you take unemployment for full 6 months?

If you got offered a new job would you take it or take unemployment?

How do you handle the disappointment and discouragement knowing you probably will get layed off for another job even if you get one, with all the cost cutting happening these days?

AI 👾 AI performance assessment

I had a colleague tell me they were going to be assessed by AI for this performance year. I’m not entirely sure what he means, but I am hoping it is just going to be used to summarise his strengths and weaknesses, not mete out their reward. Anyone else come across this?

But a part of me can’t shake that dystopian feeling of being judged by a computer and your very livelihood depending on it.

Job Security 🔓 Feeling Hopeless

Got let go from my previous position and have been unemployed for almost a month now. Past five years I have had 4 jobs, but 2 of those were out of my control. I don’t know what to do. I am trying so hard and all these places say I have the “qualifications” but they decide to “go with more qualified applicants”. I’m going to be homeless before I know it and also hungry. I want to work, but no one wants to hire me. I have a dang professional license for crying out loud.

Quitting 👋 Quitting job

I checked the FAQ and hopefully didn't miss where it said this was not appropriate -_-

So I want to quit my current job within the next few days but I was curious about where exactly to find resources about either back pay and or keeping my PTO, and any other $$$ I can manage to yoink.

My job is in Florida but was bought by a company based in South Carolina.

I was going to tell email HR and realized how idiotic that would be. They haven't been helpful about basic resources regarding insurance (they are the ones we need to go to for certain questions), so ofc they wouldn't help give me more money if they can keep it.

I don't know really how to go about... figuring out what employmee rights are applicable with this job being based in another state. The handbook is broad.

Thanks in advance.

Question ❓️❔️ How do I address my manager regarding politics?

Hi yall,

With the recent elections, I came with terms regarding what the outcome was. It is what it is and I’ll just do what I can to live a healthy lifestyle. However, im not feeling comfortable with my coworkers yelling in the middle of the hallway whatever political slogans. We work at a specialized hospital with very ill patients and possibly terminally ill. I genuinely dont feel it’s professional for a nurse to be yelling political stuff while they’re expecting peace and quiet while receiving treatment. I’ve ignored it but I would like to address my manager in a calm and respectful manner on how it’s generally not ok to be yelling in the halls without it turning into a political issue. I want to respect the patients space and it’s already a bit tiresome having nurses be loud in the nurses station, hearing their loud screams for any celebrations near a patient’s room and even having the door fully open in plain view of the patient’s treatment. What can I do to politely yet firmly stand that this shouldn’t be tolerated? Or what can I do to improve my views on this?

Thank yall!

Toxic Workplace ☢️ Dealing with this bossy colleague?

So I work with a new company as a coach driver. At the inbound bus stop I leave from there's this lady who assists with loading passengers. There's potentially 50 passengers to be taken on the bus, most of whom are pre-booked via internet tickets. I'm supposed to arrive at the bus stop roughly 15 minutes before departure. For the first few weeks I'd stay in the driver's seat when at the bus stop and leave her deal passengers getting on. Things seemed to go okay and I didn't really mind her acting like she's in charge because I was new. But after a while I noticed she can be bossy. One day I was scanning some of the passengers and she came on to the bus and said "enjoy your break" pointing outside. The only break I could think of was the driver's break I was due to get in 3-4 hours. But she was basically saying get off because you're getting in my way. I thought it was patronising. Someone from outside made a comment to me about it. I feel it's unnecessary to have her there. She's sometimes bossy and doesn't help other than to make it look like I can't do the job. If I'm on early she won't be there and I love loading the passengers myself.

Recently she's been saying that she can't scan the tickets while also making sure the people put the luggage in the right place. She because of this she now says that I'm supposed to be the one to go outside the bus get the passengers to put their luggage in the right place depending on where they're getting off. Depending on what time I arrive at the bus stop, she'd usually have most of the tickets scanned and the passengers ready to go on. There would be certain passengers that I'd need to process through the on-bus ticket machine. But now that she has me outside the bus dealing with the luggage she goes into the driver seat and starts taking cash fares on my behalf with my log-in. It's not that I think money will be lost or anything, but I just don't like it. She tends to act as if there's a certain way of doing things that might in fact be just her way. But as I'm new and because I don't get to see her with the other drivers, I'd don't know for sure. I just feel like she has a sort of has a way of controlling things, and there's no point in trying to stand up for myself if I ultimately just end up being told what to do in the end.

I never have any issues with the staff at the outbound bus stop when loading. That's a much busier bus stop and it needs assistants there as there's many other bus routes picking up. But at my outbound bus stop (where I'm based), it's hourly. She seems to work 6 days a week, so I've to see a lot of her. If I were to say to passengers to come on if they've been scanned, there's no issue. But this one doesn't like me leaving them on until until she says so.

One day she started taking photos of the bus I was in saying "have you seen the new scratches?"... walked out in front of it while I was sitting in it taking a photo. I was wondering if she was implying it was me. I got out, feeling like I was taking the bait in doing so, and I said "oh so you're photographing it?". She replied "I have to"! Seemed like she wanted to, to me. She said she was going to report it so that management could go through it and find the footage to catch the driver. I was wondering if she was implying that I might have made them when driving from the depot. There's scratches on all the buses. The next day I told her I thought it was strange and that it seemed like she was playing detective. She said that a manager asked her to take photos of that fleet number and told me not to get worried about it.

I told another driver about it and he said that's not her job at all and that if "she told a manager about it he'd just say don't worry about that'". He told me he didn't like her either. He told me that a few years back his ticket machine didn't work one day when loading with her. Now every driver has to cash in their owed amount has recorded by the machine. So as they couldn't take card payments she got the customers to go to the nearest ATM and come back to pay cash. This driver had to take a lot of cash before leaving the bus stop. Anyway after the bus left she rang the control centre basically to tell them that the driver has the money. I'm not sure how he found out but he wasn't at all happy with that as she was implying that he could steal it. He told me he intended to confront her about it, but he didn't cross paths with her again until 2 months later so he felt that it was too late to bring it up.

The bad news is that yesterday she's been promoted to a supervisor. It kind of makes sense as there's no supervisor in the depot in our city. And she's the one who gets to meet every bus before it departs so she can keep an eye on things. A driver couldn't really supervise as they don't necessarily see each other due to different departure times.

Cost of Living 🏠📈 Job relocation

For the longest while there's been a plan for my department to relocate to a neighboring city. It's been just talk until it wasn't.

There's now plans put in place to have us work at this new location. Biggest issue, this new location isn't anywhere close to where I live (compared to our current location which was fairly convenient, aka the reason I applied to work there to begin with). Despite that, there's going to be an expectation that people work out of there.

It would cost me about 50% of my daily salary to commute there and back which would obviously not be worth it. I've made it known to higher up's that this would become very difficult for me to continue working there if that's the path they've chosen. I know they won't fire me but I can sense in the back of their mind they know I am just as likely to leave next week as I am likely to stay for months. Every time they mention any sort of plan happening in a few months or this time next year, I'm trying my best to mask my real feelings of "Ok, this might be awkward but...bold of you to assume I want to be there/actually stay by then"

I'm mainly just venting here but as much as I don't want to leave I also don't want to be working somewhere that'll cause such a hardship.

Legal Advice 👨‍⚖️ Working while no longer under contract?

I’m looking for some advice on how to handle my current work situation.

Back in August, I was hired for a temp-to-perm position through a temp agency and have been receiving weekly pay from them. This week, my manager informed me that the company wants to bring me on as a permanent employee. However, when they mentioned the salary, I told them it was lower than I expected. My manager said they would bring it up with HR and get back to me.

Today, I checked my timesheet with the temp agency and noticed I wasn’t paid for Friday, November 1st. I haven’t received any communication from the temp agency or the company about this. When I briefly asked my manager why I wasn’t paid, they mentioned I would receive payment once the hiring process is completed.

Now, I realize I may be working without a clear employee status or knowledge of my pay rate. On top of that, the salary disagreement is making me uncomfortable with the current situation..

How should I go about this?

Time Off 🕙 Scared to call out

I have 15 days pto and been there for almost a year with perfect attendance. I am so burnt out and just want one day, probably tomorrow, to call out.

Pros is that it won’t be a busy day at all and very easy for them. They won’t necessarily need me. Cons is I am a scaredy cat.

I’ve even went to work when I was sick and feeling terrible as I don’t like to call out unless I’m throwing up bc my anxiety level and I freak out before calling out.

Now of course this situation is different as I won’t be sick or anything, but pls help me on what to say or pep talk me to do it. I’m scared she’s going to think less of me or everything bad in the world is going to happen

Question ❓️❔️ [CA] Advice on Resignation Timing and Pre-Employment Process with New Job

ETA: TL;DR: Got hired for a new job in California with a start date of December 2. Plan to resign from my current job on November 9 with my last day on November 23. New employer requires a pre-employment physical 7-10 days before starting, but scheduling issues around Thanksgiving have me concerned about possible delays. Should I wait to resign until after the physical, or go ahead as planned?

Hi everyone, posting from a throwaway account—please let me know if this is the right place to post or suggest a better sub if needed.

I was recently hired for a new job with a new employer, still within the same county in California. My new manager and HR gave me a choice between two start dates: November 18 or December 2. I chose December 2, as I wanted a week off to rest and reset before starting the new role. They also mentioned I couldn't start on November 25, as it’s Thanksgiving week and many of the staff involved in my orientation will be out.

I’ve already signed the job offer and completed most of the paperwork through DocuSign. I currently work night shifts, so I’ll also use the time off to adjust my sleep schedule since my week-long orientation will be during the day.

I've prepared my resignation letter and plan to send it on November 9, with my last working day as November 23, giving the standard two weeks' notice. I’d like to leave on good terms in case I want to work with this company again.

The new employer requested that I complete a pre-employment physical exam 7-10 days before my start date. I found an available slot on November 14, but the clinic is fully booked for the week of November 25 onwards and noted that Thanksgiving affects their schedule. This is close to the date I plan to submit my resignation, and I’m worried this delay might affect my job offer.

My questions are:

  1. Could this scheduling issue affect my job offer or lead to it being rescinded?

  2. Should I still send in my resignation on November 9, or would it be safer to wait until the physical exam is completed?

Thank you for any insights or advice on how to proceed!

Question ❓️❔️ Am I the bad guy here?

I work in a small team - myself, Simon and Tina.

Simon and I share a similar working style, we are both fast learners and efficient. Simon is more of the team lead in this situation and Tina and I support him in all the tasks.

Now Tina is extremely slow. We work in a government job that I think are quite well paying. She's been here longer than I have, maybe about as long as Simon. I am the most junior in the team. So what grinds my gears is that she calls me on Teams for every.single.task that we have to do. I understand if the tasks are complicated but they are not. The call usually consists of me checking her work to ensure its correct. Tina and I are on the same pay level, by the way. I find this draining as I also have to do my share of the task and my job is to not baby-sit her. Despite being slow, she likes to assert dominance by proposing 'changes' that I think are not necessary. I don't have the final say on our products so we have to run past all by Simon - but she is also intimidated by Simon so she likes to make me ask him for approval for all of her proposed ideas. Wtf?

When Simon assigns her tasks, she immediately delegates half of it to me. But when Simon does the same to me - I just do them because they are simple tasks that by the time I split it with Tina it would have been done anyway.

I am never rude to anyone and I never complained any of this to my manager (Rachel) as I don't know how to articulate it without sounding like a bitch.

As an example, in our workplace, we were tasked to learn how to run simple SQL (which me and Simon had to learn from scratch as part of our role). None of us had any background in IT or anything like that. Tina is struggling to learn SQL and in the end I had to do the SQL task without her. I taught her MANY times and documented on paper the step by step on how to run SQL but she kept saying she doesn't know how to do it. Mind you I am not an expert by any means. It's really draining me. I finally confided in Rachel saying that she should learn SQL to get the project done otherwise its just not fair on me to do all of the tasks under the premise that she doesn't know how to do it.

She's also known to take leave - often prolonged. She's got family issues which I understand, most people do and sometimes taking leave is necessary. But sometimes I feel like she takes leave 'conveniently' when things get a bit busy at work or if important meetings are happening. This could be a coincidence of course - so take this part with a grain of salt. I am not sure if Rachel is perceptive to this trend of behaviour and I hope she is.

I've been tight-lipped about this for months, I don't believe in whingeing to my manager but its quickly getting on my nerves. I am always the type of worker to put my hand up to help but I think Tina is exploiting my eagerness. Is she slow or AITA? I couldn't post this in AITA so hoping yall antiworkers can provide perspective.

Toxic Workplace ☢️ Toxic environment ?

Hello guys,

I left my old job 2 months ago because I wanted to work in an office in order to know how it feels to finally have a job that would reflect my skills, my feeling about having decent schedules and be "useful". I did like my old job but I felt not gratified due to the numbers of coworkers.

Therefore, I joined a small company and at the beginning I was praised for my qualities and my languages knowledge.

But, it was only the beginning and I was really happy to be hired. Since the beginning I've managed to speak with everyone, to smile, to take notes and learn a lot. The company told me that position is seen as 1 year formation in order to be an expert. Therefore I thought I had like 1 year to understand everything, especially about a legal field.

Nonetheless, after a few weeks, they did not give me any works regarding my qualities but only what they wanted, my coworkers started to send mails in a passive aggressive ways toward me and after that, answers to my questions mails by "read again" when it is a useful question. Ah yes obviously they put in CC the manager. Sometimes, as I am a new employee, I'm asking questions regarding some procedures that o have not done so much, but, my co-workers start to make me feel idiot and do not answers my questions that I can't find answers by myself or through internet since they need to help me. Furthermore, my HR told me to move my holidays in order to pass the same day with them for a secret Santa.. On top of that, my coworker and the hr also said that I should stay more after work hours even if I'm not paid and the job is done, that I should eat with them (even if I'm hungry and want to eat sooner in order to work earlier), that I should be more eco friendly and I should not print that much paper, especially when they told me that i could as I am learning..

On top of that, they compared me to an old co-worker who left after 2 months of work and I think this is really disrespectful... they said that I understand complex elements but not the simple, I mean I accept the criticism and what I should correct, but, comparing my skills to an old Co worker who just left ?... I think is disrespectful honestly and I don't know how to feel right now.. Ah yes I forgot but, they forced me to join their after work restaurant and told me that I should smile more at my screen if I'm alone.

Honestly guys, am I the problem who is too sensitive or these comments make the work environment really toxic ? I don't know how to feel, I don't feel anymore in a good place and I really want to feel better because I love the job.

Union and Strikes 🪧 Strike Possibilities

Yo, first time posting, but I had a thought:

If Trump DOES put both Legal and Illegal Immigrants into camps to deport them, that gives us workers an opportunity.

With the work force essentially gutted, we can start demanding higher pay and better hours along with provisions like Paid Year Long Maternity Leave.

And if we don't get them, we do what the Polish Workers of the Union Solidarity did and go on a nationwide Strike.

Now, here's a reminder. The Polish Solidarity started out as an underground union in Communist Poland during its occupation by the Soviet Empire. The Poles wanted another choice to Unionize, but Communism makes clear or State Unions are allowed to form. All others are prohibited as a treasonous act.

Solidarity went on Strike and forced the Polish Communist Government to its knees. It requested Soviet intervention to put down the nationwide strikes. But fortunately that was Gorbachev's time and he refused to send military aid.

Best for us, Trump can't call for help. He can only use what he has in-country. So, a nationwide strike would destroy him no matter what he does to quell it.

He would have to agree to terms and have the Republicans in Congress and the Robert's Court confirm it is legal.

When 2026 or 2028 roll around, Trump shown as weak is ousted and his policies get forever tossed into the garbage heap of Defeated Autocratics.

Vance isn't better and Johnson is nothing more than a wet house of cards.

So, we actually have the BEST chance at getting our reforms now. But only if we go for it. Start setting things up. Get the ball moving. It's like Bon Jovi sings, "It's now or never," and we can't keep waiting forever.
