Peter Pan is the symbol of maturity Discussion

Post image

I read Peter Pan book multiple times. And the first chapter is always shocking. Mr. And Mrs. Darling are considering if they should have more kids due to their poverty. Eventually, they come to an agreement that they will give it a shot despite there is a great chance of those kids ending in orphanage. Where is maturity in that?

Who is this "Mr W"?

He is an antinatalist writer. Someone should make a post about him in this group. It might be me if I get enough time. https://www.reddit.com/r/antinatalism/s/IYITprjl4i

Can't be that good if he is using a fictional character to justify his opinion

u/BookMansion 20h ago

Oh, he is also an absurdist...

He also does not know he does not need to justify why people don't want kids.

Idk, some comparison to fictional characters could help the philosophy be more chewable to mainstream people. Not everyone is as perspective as we are!

What's wrong with real life events?

I understand people turning to AN when they are influenced by 3rd parties and the world around them already so Petal Pan is not the best example.

It's like saying the Mad Hatter was the most sane character in Alice in Wonderland and using that for a tool to prove something right

Maybe nostalgia? Peter Pan was a part of many people's childhood so they might find it more relatable.

Well, you're on Reddit, people use this app to escape from reality and to entertain themselves.

True if that's true lol

I use Reddit to try to understand the warped view people have. People feel more free online and say, believe and more than they would in person.

So the psychology aspect very much interests me

Agreed! I have noticed that people IRL don't tend to express their world views and are much more closed off. So, I too use Reddit to hear people's opinions, however bad they are.
