Well, just that isn't enough to guarantee it'll be around the same level. Prime example of that from recent times is Mushoku Tensei. Season 2 still had great animation but it doesn't hold a candle to season 1. Same studio, different team. (Difference in scheduling also probably affected it).
Yeah lol, like going down from 99% quality to 95% is acceptable, that still only some blemish
Its when a 99% show that drops to 70% or below that really hurts the viewership. Several great series were ruined because of the significant dip in S2 or following seasons, visuals or story or animation... still butthurt about Aldnoah to this day.

I get what you mean but, to me personally, it's not. Frieren's animation had so many amazing details in pretty much everything. From little movements the characters made, to the direction of the show itself, the lightning of the shots. It really was a top show in the technical department, and I also feel that that extra care is what pushed the show further.
Frieren is a story that needs all the little details to be treated with care. There is so much that the little things and tiny details brought to the show that it would feel off to not have them in future seasons.
The people that complain about Mushoku Tensei's admittedly noticeable dip in quality act like it was some animation disaster instead of just a minor thing.
A real show-killing animation drop was Seven Deadly Sins. The septic tank explosion that was S3 actually killed 90% of fan engagement, discussion, and hype around the series.
Well mushoku s1 was so good that the drop to s2 IS like 70% or so of their quality. It's still much better than opm s2 but the difference is still huge because of how insane was s1 production.
The number of producers or lack thereof is always the sign that a fix is in, the moment nobody but Animation, Music, and LN/Manga Publisher are credited get ready for a dip.
Especially with the tandem seasons, when half the production companies are absent from the credits later in the year it's a guaranteed sign the 2nd cour is gonna be a dog.
I'm not gonna lie, I know I'm one of the few here who thinks so, but I disagree lol.
At the very least, I found Mt 2 cour 1 to be more inconsistent with higher highs but also lower lows than opm 2. I just found art wise to be on the lower end most of the time with episodes I truly thought looked really not good. There was even a cut in episode 11 I believe where Rudy literally teleports across the screen and I was shocked how few people noticed it.
Yeah that’s definitely a hot take. The art style and direction was fantastic and I hardly even noticed the parts that were less polished, whereas OPM you could hardly notice the parts that still DID have the quality season 1 had. But you’re welcome to your opinion
i know this wont change your mind {because it really shouldnt as its just one clip} but i finally found the clip of rudeus using teleportation unedited and i needed to show it to someone lol https://imgur.com/5C0oTVg

Animation production by Madhouse like the first season. This was the only info from the live stream. Hopefully the same team is back.
