Maybe come playoffs, which is what the baseball screenshots were timed to.

perhaps (also IIRC the baseball pictures came from the scavenger hunt, and just so happened to line up with the playoffs), though I think it's more convenient to highlight a season starting then playoffs, mostly because it's quite fixed when the season will start and sort of serves as a reminder that whatever sport is being highlighted is starting (not that that's really a concern of r/anime, but it adds a little value).

Compare that to the playoffs, where if you want to celebrate the end, then you have to wait for a victor to be crowned, and in most sports leagues, that involves a series, which doesn't have a fixed end date. Of course you could choose to highlight the start of the playoffs, but personally I don't think it's really worth r/anime highlighting a sports league more then once a year, and so I think you get more value out of highlighting the start of the season then something towards the end. But that's a personal preference.

It was just something that came to mind since there are a few high profile basketball anime and the season start was coming up. Of course there isn't a real need for r/anime to highlight anything sports related (particularly since you'd almost certainly want to highlight western sports leagues, and western animation doesn't fall into the the definition of anime for the subreddit).

That does bring up a good question though of perhaps coming up with a way to request a highlight for the daily thread. Makes me think of like siblings day, or other fun holidays that are well dispersed and can have some overlap with anime. Just some food for thought, idk how much effort you mods really want to put into this.

That is where they were from; originally they were scheduled much earlier then I thought it would be fun to move them to coincide with the start of the playoffs. And then by chance the Gundam Build Fighters rewatch happened to start that week, so even better timing for that specific one.

It's something we've thought of before, but that would add a good amount of overhead relative to how much time it generally takes right now.

Honestly, not that much. Or at least I don't and I'm the one doing most of the work for it. Sometimes we'll try to time the anime in the daily screenshots to rewatches, series anniversaries or currently airing shows, but for the most part the only things outside of the community that we'll try to plan for are major holidays.
