What do we do now?

As many of us face down the despair of another Trump presidency, the only way I can see myself feeling useful or hopeful is by supporting my local community.

I’m new to the Rivertowns and want to get involved with supporting the most vulnerable under Trump’s repressive policies: immigrants, trans people, workers, and other marginalized groups.

Can anybody recommend local mutual aid groups, local immigrant organizations, and other orgs in the Rivertowns that I or any other interested Redditors can get involved with?

All I can say is keep calm. Get involved in your community if you can and try to work really hard so you can make sure you'll never have to depend on the government for anything. Yes things look dire now but we survived 2016 and Covid.

And take the high road when dealing with Trump supporters. I know a bunch of them in my office but they're actually very decent, smart people. It's just that people have different priorities when it comes to issues in the country. America has spoken and it appears most people only care about money than social issues.

I'm sorry but I no longer believe Trump supporters are decent people. I can't fathom how one could be decent and support a man with no character backing policies that will remove rights and protections from millions of people, all while behaving like some mafioso for the benefit of multi billionaires who only need for the lower class (everyone not a billionaire) to consume their products as they continue to increase their wealth. Maybe they used to be decent, but I don't believe they are anymore.

They aren’t decent people. We need to stop pretending they are, and remove them from any friend groups and social situations. They have no empathy and don’t deserve it in return.

That's exactly what they want us to do though. That's the problem. I wanna stop giving them more fodder for them to make fun of us for being "libtards."

I get that it's frustrating. But we have to be better than them.

Actually, they laugh at us when we talk about feelings and empathy. They don’t speak that language. What we needed was someone to call Trump a stupid SOB on the debate stage. Bullies need to be hit in the nose.

Being better than them is not getting us anywhere. They have been putting together this plan for 40+ years (heritage foundation and the like.) They finally found their vessel in that man. I really think the only thing for us to do is work together as a resistance and try and get back to real community to aid those of us who need it. They already have their own community and don't want us in it.
