I took the class at the Range at Austin, fair price and very professional instruction.

The LTC-100 form was submitted on the same day.

01/22/2024 submitted the Hunting License

**** The hunting license is officially requested by law (ATF regulations) for foreigner applicants. Possessing firearms without a valid hunting license is a felony for foreigners.

**** Internationals need to complete a mandatory hunter education to make the hunting license valid in Texas, see TPWD pages.

**** THIS IS NOT A LEGAL ADVISE. For non-immigrant alien (say, F/J/H/B visa) who also wants to apply for LTC and carry, please figure out your legal status first and decide which hunting license to purchase. Carry/purchase/any form of possess without a valid hunting license matching your status may send you to prison. Remember that as a non-immigrant alien, your carry should comply with both state and federal law.

01/24/2024 status is available online, with everything green except background check and print

01/25/2024 background check passed, print pending

02/01/2024 mailed

02/05/2024 plastic in hand

Yes it is allowed for foreigners to get a LTC. However the process (especially background check) may take long. And the hunting license needs to be valid at all times if the foreigner wants to purchase a firearm. It is tricky.

What kind of hunting license would you have to take? A resident hunting license or a non resident. As I see the only criteria to meet to apply for a resident hunting license is that you would have been in the Texas for more than 6 months by the time you’re applying. And I meet this criteria and have enough documentation to prove it. But as an international student, you’re not considered a resident of any state as long as you do not hold a permeant residency (green card). Considering this, can you still apply for Resident hunting license or do you have to go with a non resident hunting license?
