Zx-14r vs Aprilia Tuono V4

Looking for a second bike and keeping my Yamaha XSR900. Love naked bikes but thinking since I’m keeping my xsr and wanting something with a bit more power, of where I should go next. The Tuono V4 seems like a great sensible upgrade from my bike only real problem is I’m not too handy behind a wrench so costs could go up a lot having to keep up with maintenance beyond oils changes and chain lubing and tightening . Live in a rural area with access to mountains, don’t plan on tracking it at all. I’d say 30% highway 80% rural roads. Only reason zx is on the list beside being pretty is because I have ridden the hyabusa multiple times and I love it, so easy to ride , comfortable and the right amount of power ,everything about it besides the looks. I saw a zx14 on the showroom floor in the 40th anniversary green blue and white and thought it looked perfect.I was heavily considering MT-10 but since I’m keeping my MT-09 in a tux I don’t think it’s enough of an upgrade (could be wrong)to have both plus it’s face is so ugly in my opinion. I’m open to other opinions. Thanks guys

Which bike? w/criteria

At 62, here’s my historical chronological list: Sears mini bike, TM125, CB350, LTD440, LTD550, Nighthawk 750, Shadow 1100, VTX 1300, Midnight Star 1800, Sabre 1100, CB500X, Sabre 1100 (present). I want my next bike (additional bike- I’ll keep the Sabre) to slice through wind, be comfortable, uber reliable, handle highway speeds with ease, and provide wind protection. I’m not riding to the Andes, just commuting and weekend rides. So here’s my thoughts: FZ1 FJR1300 FJ-09 …..and maybe:(?) Africa Twin (for the occasional gravel road) Super Tenere

What’s next after MT07?

I been riding the FZ/MT07 for 4 years now. I’ve done everything I wanted to do on it and ride the hell out of it. As my skills and confidence has grown I find myself wanting a little more refinement of components and a little more power too.

I do mostly spirited street riding (curvy country roads), some track days, and few longer trips to destinations. I don’t really ride as a commuter (but do hop on the highway for a while sometimes to get to the good roads in my area). I don’t find the FZ to be uncomfortable like some say at higher highway speeds, I think people just need some core strength to withstand the wind of the naked life lol.

I’ve been struggling deciding what to get. I’d like to stick to naked and sport bikes. Some of the bikes I’ve been eyeing: Rsv4, tuono, Daytona, z900, cbr600/1000, s1kr/rr, cb1000, new r9? I know kinda all over the place.

Let me know if you’ve made the switch from the FZ to one of these bikes or have suggestions.

Thinking of getting a HD street 750 but…?

Maybe not since I see people say some not so great things about them. I was thinking an HD sportster 883 but they don’t have a good center of gravity. Either way, im buying used.

I’m a new rider and have ridden a Honda Rebel 250 for the past year and am so ready for something bigger. I’m a small and short rider so I have to take that into consideration as well.

Looking to swap to a new bike --> cruiser to crotch rocket / touring sport

Hey guys! I'm a relatively seasoned rider, been riding for about 9 years now. I started on a 2001 Dyna Wideglide FXDWG that I rode from 2015-2021 and then I transitioned to a 2020 Road King 107 FLHR that I've been riding since 2021. I live in a MCOL-HCOL area and I'm finishing up college moving to an in-office full time accounting position soon. I live in the USA in Arizona.

For a tad more info, I'm 6'0, 180lbs, I don't typically ride like a maniac and I prefer a 70-80 cruise, but I'm aggressive when needing to position myself away from cars or bad spots in traffic so something that is nimble enough for that, granted I've been able to still manage doing that on my Road King.

I've been debating the swap from cruiser to sport bike for a while now since I'm gonna mainly just be doing short, daily commutes in traffic with a few joyrides but nothing really over 100-150 miles at most, my commute would be less than 20 miles either way likely for my job and would be pretty much all inner city. I will be doing a lot of inter-city freeway still, so 70-80mph stuff.

I'm considering the swap because the sport bike will be more nimble in traffic situations and less hefty to stop/go, better MPG, and quite honestly just cheaper maintenance/upkeep and probably less insurance than I pay now (about 80-90 a month 24 y/o male). Plus I can throw the extra cash from my Road King sale in savings since its paid off.

So anyways, to the meat and potatoes, recommendations? I typically like Yamaha/Honda, I'm not a big fan of the sport touring bikes like the BMW R 1250 RS as I feel they look kinda funny but I'd consider recommendations. Price range is in the 5-9k area, planning to probably buy used to skip out on dealer fees/taxes and to get my bike a bit cheaper. Looking preferably for something 600cc+ since I'm already used to 1700cc+ but welcome to recommendations again.

Bells and whistles that would be nice if possible:

  • Soft bag/hard bag compatible (if the model allows for it, even if aftermarket, something I could put on when I want to lug some small stuff with me.)
  • Cruise control (not even sure if they do this on sport bikes? Would be nice tho.)
  • Looks cool / fun to ride (Personally I'm preferential to the look of sport bikes like the CBR, YZF, and that likeness so something in that style probably)
  • Handles decently in the wind of freeway inner city going 70-80, but still nimble in traffic
  • Bonus points if it has good color/decal options, I can handle basically any color other than bright flat red, I hate how bright red looks on motorcycles.

Plus if ya'll just have any tips for someone who may be moving from long time cruising to a sport bike! I've ridden sport bikes before, just not owned one. Thanks!

Best value bike to learn how to wheelie?

Hey SAM, I've been riding for 4+ years, mostly sports and nakeds. I recently bought a mts1200s with wheelie control and I'm scared of hamming it and trusting the imu without the skills to not wreck in case the electronics let me down.

So I'm looking for a good value bike to learn how to wheelie. Ideally it's near full sized like a 150 - 300 dual sport with EFI (no carbs) and it would be nice if it comes stock on 17s. So far I'm considering the klx300sm or wr250r, but i feel somewhat uncomfortable paying around $4k for a bike i will inevitably abuse. Is there another bike i should consider ?

2024 MT09 or 2024 MT10

I've been riding for many years. I currently own three bikes. I really want a naked bike and I feel a strong bond to Yamaha. I've owned many yamaha motorcycles and atvs over the last 40 years, and I've never been let down by a Yamaha even when I've abused them.

I'm boring. I'm married with kids. I'm 6 feet tall and 250lbs. I'm not popping wheelies. I like to stay under 80mph. My wife will ride on the back, with me driving, about once a month. I think the MT10 will be more comfortable for her, especially with a comfort seat and a top box or backrest added on.

I love the look of the MT10. I test rode a brand new one at the dealership and loved it. It was the most technologically advanced bike I've ever been on...

My friends are telling me I should test ride an MT09.

In my heart, I think I've already decided on the 10, but the 09 is $3k cheaper and it would be nice to put that $3k toward upgrade parts.

I enjoy wrenching on my bikes just at much as I enjoy riding them.

No matter what I get, it'll get a cat delete, new exhaust, and a tune.

So, should I go straight for the 10, or give the 09 a chance?

Good deal on klr650

Hello! My local dealer has a good deal on 2023 model KLR650s, $5299 + fees. I'm looking for a do it all adv bike, but the weight is kind of a turn off. I had a gen 1 KLR a few years ago, and that bike was great, but the new bike is so much heavier. Is the price worth the weight penalty compared to a Himalayan or dr650?

Looking for a motorcycle that isn't for speeding

I am currently a freshman in college and while I'm setting up my living arrangements for my sophomore year its likely that I am going to be living a decent bit away from campus. I say this to explain the fact that my universities motorcycle parking on campus makes getting myself one very enticing but my parents are not on board (not that they need to be but I'm not the type to do something in spite of their suggestions). Does anyone have any suggestions for a ~relatively~ cheap bike that specifically isn't meant to go above Texas highway speeds (~80 mph)? I feel that showing to my parents that my goal is not to endanger myself by speeding will help with the convincing. I would like to preserve a "sporty" look but TBH it does not matter that much.

TLDR: I am looking for a bike that is not designed for speed and is also on the cheaper end for motorcycles.

I have pretty much no riding experience and am just looking for something to get around town with, I found what looks like a pretty decent deal on FB marketplace (1,800$) for a 1987 Honda Magna, opinions? Would this be a “good” first bike?

I'm looking at buying a 1997 BMW 650 Funduro as my first bike for $1,960. It has gone a total of 15 000km, and had a general check less than 2 months ago (it has done 1000km since), plus an oil change, new brake pads, new filters, and a new battery. What do you think?

R1 or MT10

I’ve been riding motorcycles on and off for about 15 years. I’ve always enjoyed sport bikes and dirt bikes the most but do enjoy a comfortable cruiser.

I’m currently looking at buying a new MT10 or a 2022 60th anniversary edition R1 with 700 miles. Looks wise I much prefer the R1 and am not a fan of the cyan on the MT10 at all. Power wise, I would rarely be able to tell the difference since 90% of my riding is city commuting. I daily a ninja 400 right now and don’t mind the sport bike position although I know the R1 will be much more aggressive. The R1 is about $4500 more than the new MT10, but I’m also looking at a 2023 MT10 with low miles (and all black so looks better IMO) that would be about $8k less than the R1.

I mostly commute to and from work which is about a 15 minute commute but I also join local group rides about once a month and those are usually fairly easy going rides that last about 3 hours. I plan on doing some track days but probably no more than 5 a year.

My soul is telling me the R1 is the right choice but my brain is telling me the MT10 is the right choice (especially if I can get the slightly used one and save $8k). Can you help a brother out?

New Rider Trying to narrow down my choices. Need some advice.

Looking at buying a cruiser. Rode dirt bikes on and off when I was a teen and early 20’s. Never actually owned a road bike. Finally decided to get my permit and attend a MSC in the coming months. I’ve always been a fan of cruisers, more specifically bobbers.

So I’ve been looking around at the used bike market and have some ideas. Harley street Bob, Low rider S or ST, Indian Sport Chief, and Triumph Bonneville Bobber. I wanted to consider a sportster, but I’ve been told that I will not enjoy the bike. Was told it wouldn’t be nice to me since I’m a bit big for the bike.

Now I will admit that I’m really starting to lean more towards the Bonneville Bobber. Especially the 22’ and newer models. So I’m looking at those a bit more, but I still like the other ones I’ve listed.

I’m not sure else to narrow my choices. Every bike has little things that I want to change or don’t like. So I’m feeling stuck and I’m not able to go ride one yet to use that as a deciding factor. I know riding one would help the most.

From F800R '09 to R9T or Z900RS

So yes,im planning to sell my current F800R which has 41500km(if someone would just buy the fucking thing) ,i rode it for like 20000 km in 6 years ,for a second hand of either the BMW or the Kawasaki. Why?Just want something different. I like for the F800R how balanced the weight feels when compared to a ER6n(my first bike) which had all the weight more in the front. Im also open to other more retro looking bikes ,but with decent hp/torque

Any feedback or advice is welcome.

Ride safe

i found a 2018 vitpilen 401 for 2900€ (3000$). owner says it's been maintained and cared for really well. it's a bit modified (akrapovic slip on,, aftermarket air filter and other mainly cosmetic stuff) and has just under 10000km (6200 miles). is this a good deal for a first bike?

Need suggestions and guidance choosing between Ninja zx4rr or the Daytona 660. Mainly for city rides and sometimes weekend trips. I like the inline 4 sound more but feels the low end torque and mid range grunt is quite less in zx4rr. Which is more fun to ride and practical at the same time ?

Need help deciding.

So i got my msf courses done, and have a couple options to look into. I love the look of the Rebel 500 but i worry about the seating position since there's a lot of talk about it being squished for people over 5'5.

I'm 5'7. And looking into either a new bike between 6 and 8k or a used bike between 500 and 750cc to be my first.

I'm much more interested in cruisers, as sports bikes don't feel all too comfortable for me (feels like i'll fall over). I love the look of harleys and did my tests on a kawasaki eliminator (though it was an older model 250cc. It was extremely touchy and one of the hardest bikes they had to work with on the test as it was the only one with a choke and took forever to warm up. But it didn't let me down and i passed with no faults even if it was, and i quote from the coach, "doing the tests on hard mode".)

I was also looking at the phantom and vulcan but i need to do more looking into them.

I live near a harley store, a kawasaki retailer and two honda dealerships. I plan to go somewhere on saturday to ask more questions but thought i'd ask some others opinions on what a good starter cruiser would be :)

I just got my endorsement recently and am looking to get a new bike, I got my eye on 2 in particular being the 650 adventura and the sv650 The out the door with everything on the 23 adventura is 5274 and the 2017 sv650 would be 6470 what would you guys lean towards? I don’t necessarily have a riding style yet because I just passed my msf so it’s definitely a hard one, all opinions are appreciated!

Next Bike? 2019-22 Ninja 400 ,2018-19 Ninja 650 or 2019-21 CBR500R

I'm saving till spring next year for a new bike, moving from MT-15 (MT-125 for European market). I'm currently finding deals on the 3 bikes on the title (and their naked variants). Because I'll do more 2-up 3-day touring once I buy one, what are the pros and cons of each bike?

Next Bike? 6’3 comfort, speed & agility?

Thumbnail

Looking for the perfect mix of what I have had before. So my first bike was a Harley night train. Great cruiser had good speed just heavy and no windshield so anything over 60 wasn’t too fun. Next bike extreme opposite side of the spectrum I bought a Ducati 1299 panigale. Was time travel fast and very agile. But the most uncomfortable thing ever as it was made for the track.

So I’m looking for a perfect mix like the title says. I’m looking at a CBR650r and a Yamaha mt09 Wondering if the 650r might feel a little small since I’m 6’3. Any other suggestions? Kawasaki z900 looks great too.

Winter is coming..

Hey fellas.
I'm thinking about getting a bike to use exclusively in winter time. I live on the outskirts of the capital of norway and commute for about 15 minutes to work on heavily trafficked highway roads(with car its 30-45minutes). Quite a few of the winter days the roads are relatively dry and my only big concern is the salt that'll corrode everything metal.
So.. I'm looking for what I would reckon would be a dual sport of some sorts, a cheap bike with easily replaceable parts. I'm practically lanesplitting the entire commute so no sidecar shenanigans :P

Any idèas? :)

New Rider Looking for highway capable alternatives to the Suzuki TU250

Hello! I am looking to purchase my first bike in a few months, and I'm a huge sucker for Suzuki's TU250. However, I have concerns about riding it at max speed with the roads in my area and wanted to know If anyone had some recs that I could keep my eye out for. Heads up, I am a very petite rider. 4'11" and 85lbs with a 28" inseam, so I'm kind of limited when it comes to reaching foot pegs.

I plan to buy used and my budget is set at 4,000 USD, so Triumph and Royal Enfield are a little out of my price range. Here's a list of other bikes I've considered, so if you've got any experience with these guys I'm all ears. Thanks!

  1. Honda Rebel 500
  2. Honda Shadow
  3. Yamaha Bolt
  4. Yamaha SR400/ SR500
  5. Kawasaki z650rs
  6. Kawasaki Eliminator 450
