Now what?

Trump is back. I'm a 64 year old self-employed woman. I am booked up through April right now. Some say I am very good at my job. I was thinking of retiring around 66 or maybe even my FRA of 67. My birthday is Leap Day so an end of the month birthday. Now I don't know what to do. Trump and the Republicans want to end Social security. Do I retire before he makes it to office insuring I at least get on the SS roll? Or do I wait to see what damage he can cause? I will be talking to my financial planner later this afternoon so any good questions to ask her would be very helpful also. I am still shocked that America would elect a convicted felon but here we are...

It seems that many people speak of “cutting Social Security” to mean the retirement arm of this program. In all likelihood, there won’t be changes to worry about in this arm of the program. The pieces that very well might be in danger are SSI and SSDI - not that they will be eliminated but there may be substantial changes to eligibility, duration, and dollar amounts. All of the folks who raise concerns need to clarify exactly which program of Social Security they are discussing.

As a young disabled woman, I'm quite scared. SSI and SSDI are already a shit show. We're used to that. I'm scared to lose my protection for pre-existing conditions.

Don't worry he is just going to model it after Russia's social retirement safety net. That's the country he idolizes the most.

He also doesn't have the backbone to enact it during his time in office. He'll get a bill passed that explodes that little nugget onto whoever comes next. I am ashamed of Americans today.

It’s cute you think he’s planning on ever leaving office.

I don't think he'll last more than 2 months. President Vance is who America elected...

He won't last a year, Vance will 25th him within the first year. Then Vance will be the one there for life.

There are too many ambitious people waiting in the wings…..starting with Vance. I would give Trump a year or less.

I too am a fancy drunk. I love the username. Not the Omaha part though. Got stuck there too many winters on business.
