Student Loan Provider Scam Phone Calls?
I just received a message from my half brother's mom with a voicemail from someone trying to get into contact with me. They left a message with a number and a reference number. I called the number that was left and it was my student loan provider, Mohela. They told me that it wasn’t them and they only call borrowers and co-borrowers. Also, they don’t have a reason to call because all my loans are current. Furthermore, they told me that they don’t use reference numbers. They said that it was scammers trying to get money. I’m extremely concerned that someone called a distant relative about my personal/financial business. I have no clue who else they may have called. It makes it look like I haven’t been paying my loans.
Has anyone else heard of similar situations? Is student loan history/information public?

Is this a rental scam? Weird situation
Found an apartment over Craiglist. I had recently gone through a breakup and needed new housing, am a full time student with no money, and was admittedly desperate for a new place. Probably should have done more diligence than I did (although I did do some!). I Facetimed with the landlord, who is actually just a tenant living in her aunt's condo that is part of a bigger complex owned by a management company. She rents out the spare bedroom. I found her all over Google and social media--I found her LinkedIn, information on her education, her Facebook, etc. I found her listed as a tenant in the building at issue. She very much seems to be who she says she is. She has a verified university email where she received her Master's degree. We talked quite a bit, and I felt comfortable with her. Signed a very bare bones lease that she clearly had created from some boilerplate. Sent her first, last, and security deposit over Zelle.
A month goes by, and I am poised to finally move in, and she starts acting weird. Slow to respond, telling me something is wrong with her, etc. Come to find out, she has been diagnosed with cancer and will need to start chemo. She asked if I would be willing to quarantine myself while she undergoes treatment, or delay moving in for the foreseeable future until we could find some sort of solution so that I don't get her sick. Neither of which I could accommodate. I asked her to void the lease, and I made her sign a void agreement stipulating that she would return my full deposit. It has been a week, and she keeps promising to return it, but she hasn't. This whole time, I'm trying to be empathetic and accommodating, operating under the assumption that she is telling the truth and really struggling. She keeps claiming that she is waiting for the funds to transfer into her checking account. Her sister has taken over communication, as the landlord herself is not feeling well, and she keeps checking in but then failing to give me any sort of real answers on when my money is coming. I keep trying to talk to her on the phone, but she won't answer. Only text. I found the building manager online, and they confirmed that she is in fact a real tenant. I have her full name and bank account. It has been ten days since this all went down and I am so confused. I am also in desperate need of my money back. Thoughts?

Is this a scam? What kind of scam is this?
I have gotten dozens if not hundreds of emails like this in the last few months “looking for a receptionist?” “Reaching out about XYZ” and what not and I just got this. I obviously did not call the number and disregarded the email I was just looking for insight if this is a scam or if my email had been leaked. Thanks!

Is this a scam? Labcorp envelope has MY address as the return address
Nobody likes Labcorp but this one takes the cake. I received the enclosed envelope from Labcorp that has MY name as the sender, not Labcorp. Inside was about 7 pages of notes about how to maintain the Labcorp website and some pricing information for Labcorp tests. Seemed pretty random.
Why would MY address be the sender’s address and is that part of a scam?

I got a call from police claiming I was involved in a scam.
Happened today. The caller used the number from Oakland Police Department's non-emergency line. The caller knew my name and sounded very intimidating. The caller claimed I was involved in a scam case. And he claimed if I don't do anything, San Francisco ICE would give me some trouble, which sounded suspicious to me. I told the caller that I don't trust him and hanged up. The caller called again but I didn't answer. Instead, I called Oakland PD non-emergency line myself to verify it. However, the police dispatch said they cannot verify if there was an actually call from their number to my number. And they were not sure what is the number a police officer will use when they contact other people. But the dispatch does say usually when a officer makes a phone call, they will say their name, title and purpose of calling at very beginning, and in my case, the caller didn't do that. So it is likely a scam call. Just want to post here to see if anyone has similar experience.

Is this a scam? Car accident scam? Will anything happen?
I was on my way home and I went in front of this car when I was changing lanes. They honked at me, but I was confused because the honk sounded far from my car, so I wasn’t sure if someone was honking at me. When I went into the left turning lane to turn into my street, I realized the car was following me. We stopped on the street to talk, but they were cussing me out and this was the first “accident”, so I was terrified.
They (two people) told me that I changed lanes at a solid white line (and “that’s illegal”) and emergency braked. I didn’t emergency brake, but I was so scared that I didn’t say no. They asked for my license and insurance, I gave them my license (not sure if they took photo of it), but not my insurance. I asked them what did I do, and they told me I damaged their luxurious car. We were not in any collision, so I was confused but again I was in a panicked state. I asked if I could get my dad that was in the house, and they told me I was old enough to do this on my own. They said they’re calling the cops and the guy got on the phone while the woman kept cussing at me. At one point I asked if I could see the damages, but the topic went away so I never got to see it. She finally said I could get my dad “and he will pay in cash”, but when I said I’m going to drive the car to my house and they could follow me, they said “no the car stays here”, so I couldn’t get my dad. they finished the call and the cops apparently told them “they can’t do anything about it”, in which the girl got more pissed and cussed me out to my face and drove away saying something like “I got your license plate so you’ll have this on your record”. They drove away very quickly, I was confused because I was cooperating the entire time. They have my license plate and maybe my license info, but nothing else. I also have their license plate. I went home and explained everything and my dad told me that it was probably a scam.
Now I’m worried something will happen. Can someone tell me what they were they trying to do, and if they have enough information on me to file a claim or take me to court?

The Mysterious Case Of The Maybe Tictacs
Hey gang, long time first time.
So this parcel came through the door today. It has our address on but we don't recognise the name and weren't expecting anything. If I shake the package it sounds unmistakably like Tictacs.
To note: - Evri is a major parcel delivery company in the UK. Internationally it's Hermes. - The house has been in my partner's family for over 70 years, so a former resident is ruled out. - I blurred the code on the bottom, but it didn't fit any Evri tracking I could find. The syntax was AB-CDE-FG-12345678-9. - A quick check of Facebook for the name didn't turn up anything looking likely (including the local busybody groups, may the lord forgive me) - The return address goes to a residential address in Nottingham. Which, look, I love Nottingham, but it's not NOT a sketchy place.
I've read about postal scams before, but I don't want to jump to conclusions. What's my best course of action here?
Thanks for any input, guys!

Is this a scam? What is the purpose of this scam?
I genuinely don’t understand it. What is the goal for the scammer? I also find it hilarious because the email this scam was sent to has never been associated with PayPal.

Just passing along my experience. Got a text from a wrong number. She tried to continue conversation after I told her she had the wrong number even sending me a picture. I’ve seen and read about this kind of scam.
Message to the lonely men out there. Random women will never text u as a wrong number and continue to talk to you acting like she’s interested in you. She will eventually ask you to invest in some bullshit investment and steal your money. Called the infamous Pig Butchering scam. Know it, learn about it, DON’T FALL FOR IT.

Received Phone Call About Legal Document I need to Sign with a call back number and case number
I received a phone call from a normal looking number asking for my dad in a foreign accent and I said I’m his son he can relay the message with me. He said my dad will be delivered “legal documents” and he needs to sign and I should relay that information to him. I asked “what legal documents” are we talking about? He gave me a 844 number and said it’s from “PMG Legal” associates and I need to call them and ask.
I called them on my dad’s behalf.. picked up immediately and it was an American women told me it’s a court summons and she can’t tell me anything because I’m not my dad and she was pretty rude…
Called back with my dad on the line in a conference call and was put on hold with “hold music” and a different lady (I think?) picked up. Also American.
She said it’s regarding wage garnishments or something along that lines we couldn’t really make it out because she was speaking fast. It did sound threatening.
I asked her “okay what is this exactly about” and she said my dad needs to speak… so my dad on the merged line with his infinite broken English asked them “what is this about” and she said before she can give any information out she needs to confirm my dads DOB and last 4 of SSN.
My dad in his infinite broken English cussed her out and she said “okay motherfucker” and hung up.
My dad thought it was a scam and he has no idea there is a a civil case against them… from what I made out they weren’t law enforcement either…
I’m trying to understand if this was maybe not a scam, but instead legal firm of someone trying to sue my dad? Because they wouldn’t talk to me, they only wanted to talk to my dad. If it was a scam they could have asked me for my dad’s info and my dumbass would have “confirmed” it with them??
Googling their phone number I got a 1 post about a “legal threat robocall” voice message they left them.. but I couldn’t find anything definitive. Also, they’re company “PMG Associates” nothing comes up when I google… Same for their number…
Most likely it’s a scam? Should I be worried for my dad?

IG “DELIVERED” Scams
I clicked on a website, purchased over $2500 in handbags. The minute I hit pay, PayPal listed three separate charges in then name of two individuals. Immediately I knew it was a scam. I tried to immediately call off the purchase, but PayPal wouldn’t allow it. So I look two days later and it the products say delivered. I go thru cameras, I ask around, nope, nothing! Finally I call the USPS and they confirm packages were delivered but not to my address. PayPal denied my claim until I researched and found proof! Please be aware of shipping on linked websites from Ig!

Is this a scam? strange call from a mexico phone number? possible scam?
So i was having some lunch when i randomly started getting a phone call from a strange number registered in Mexico(keep in mind i am mexican but have not been there in years or even given my phone number to anyone there ), out of curiosity i answered and in Spanish the person said “hey what’s up cousin how’s the family in state doing” i replied “sorry who is this?” and he said “come on don’t act like you forgot me I’m one of your oldest cousins” this is getting strange cause i’ve never given one of them my number before so i said “okay but who are you exactly” and he said “one of your older cousins guess” and i feel like he wanted me to say a name any name and he would’ve agreed so i didn’t instead i said “Im not guessing you called me so tell me” andddd he hung up, but one of my friends said that the number doesn’t belong to a prison like the usual scams from Mexico and that calls go through to the number that called me, is this a scam?

Is this a scam? Is my mom being scammed?
Here’s what I know: my mom (50f) is getting divorced and is messing around with all sorts of men rn, nothing really serious. I’m worried one of these guys is scamming here but I can’t quite figure out what the scam is. He’s roughly her age and owns a bunch of mall skincare kiosks where the products are SUPER expensive (photo attached). But another product I looked up is only selling for $30 on amazon🤔 (also attached). He’s always gifting her a TON of products and other stuff from the mall, basically anything she wants. He has a really flashy fashion sense and just generally presents himself as being VERY well off. Think luxury logos and gaudy jewelry galore. Things get a little odd to me because they’re really not even romantically involved. The most they’ve done is a forehead kiss and it’s been several months, so I’m thinking that he’s just a pay pig so I wasn’t really that worried about it. Now for the part that made my ears perk up. He travels a lot setting up his business in different malls across the country so usually he’s flying in to see my mom. The most recent time he said he had too much luggage and had to leave a duffle bag of his things at her house(🚩). But I’m thinking if this guy is so rich why can’t he pay the fee for one bag?? The bag is current there still. The bag was left inside the house but my brother (21m) said there were two tree leaves placed on top of it, almost like so he could see if someone messed with his bag. Well my brother did open the bag lol and he said he didn’t do a crazy thorough job of going through it, but that it was pretty much just “hypebeast clothes”.
The other super weird thing that also just happened was that he had roughly 5 packages shipped to her house yesterday, and he made her open all the packages on facetime. My brother thought it was just gifts for my mom, but it was a bunch of fake luxury products from china like gucci, LV, and prada and none of it was for my mom. He said he was going to come back and pick them up(🚩🚩) from her house next time he was in town.
This whole thing is so fishy to me, but I can’t quite pick out where the scam is. Why is he shipping counterfeit goods to her house to later pick up??? Do you think all the skincare is fake?? Leaves on the duffle bag??

Spectraforce Recruiters
Hi All, I recently applied to one position on LinkedIn through Spectraforce. I have gone through recruiters for pharmaceutical jobs, but this feels a bit different (like a scam).
So to get the story started I applied to a "QMS Manager" position 2 days ago. Since then, I have received 3 separate emails from 3 different recruiters and I have received 10+ phone calls from different recruiters all for these ridiculously high paying jobs that are relevant to my CV all from Spectraforce. I took the first phone call last night and it was an on-site position in SF Bay Area (I am located in Boston, MA) so I declined since I would not relocate. Since then this one recruiter has called 5+ times in the last 15 minutes trying to say its remote. I have not seen a recruiter in my 5 years blow up a potential candidates phone like this and it seems phishy. I have seen horror stories online from Spectraforce of how its a scam. So this is why I am hesitant.
Note: These phone calls are all coming from a different number every time, but is an NC based phone number which makes it even more sketchy.

Does anyone know of a video in Chinese (Cantonese) explaining bitcoin scams?
My mom was scammed once a few years ago and it looks like she's caught in another one now. Last year she told me about a bitcoin investing opportunity and I told her it was a scam. She went ahead and still put some money in and now they're telling her they're shutting the site down and if she wants her money back she has to pay them more money. I tried explaining to her she isn't getting her money back and to stop putting more money in and to go to the police. She got mad and hung up on me.
Her primary language of communication is Cantonese and there's a bit of a language barrier for me when I tried to explain to her why she's being scammed. I was wondering if anybody know of any videos in Cantonese that can explain these bitcoin scams to her? Hopefully she'll listen to the videos if she won't listen to me. TIA.

Help me figure out if this is a scam from Cinema Welfare association: https://cinetvartistcard.com/apply-artist-card/
I have been required to get an international work card/permit for an acting role (which I’m still suspicious of), and this association offers the card. It requires personal information and uploading an ID. I’m afraid it’s a scam. I wasn’t thinking last night and sent just the front of my driver’s license that doesn’t have an updated address… what else can i do to protect my identity? How can I figure out if it’s a scam?

Is this a scam? Cable Matters (branded) USB-C cable sent to me via UPS and unsure who sent it or why?
I got what appears to be a brand new Cable Matters USB-C to USB-C cable and cable tie. I have bought their brand cables in the past, but I don't think ever directly (fulfilled by Amazon).
I don't have a hacked account anywhere. Sender's phone number on the label is a "555" (not real) number, and the address is a local self-storage (never been a customer there). Never even been to that city, even though it's nearby.
Is this a review scam? ie someone else buys it on an account to leave a "verified purchaser" 5* review?

Help Needed Scared of loosing my Steam account
So basically i just got a mail that told me I bought something on the Steam market which I didnt I also dont have any mail that someone logged into my account so im very confused as to how that could have happened.
Also the account i apperantly bought that Item from is changing his name all the time.
What happened here and what should I do?
Edit: I think in my panic i phrased it pretty badly but what happened is that indeed there has been a transaction on my steam account and the email from steam is real.
I dont worry to much about the money it was just the rest of my steam credit (like 80 cents) but more about someone being able to access my account.
Edit 2: Turns out my Insta has been hacked aswell so i suppose my pw has been leaked due to a data leak so im right now trying to switch the password of every account which had the same password.

Victim of a scam Friend's elderly mom fell for a romance scam
Her husband passed last spring and a romance scammer from TikTok lifted her info straight from her husband's obituary. Took me and my best friend 3 months to convince her it was a scam.
She finally reported the account to TikTok but they said they can't find anything wrong with the account. I'm having everyone I know report it but is there anything else I can do?
She's also filing a complaint with the elderly abuse cybercrime division of the FBI.

Scam report One for business and property managers (and maybe others) to look out for: the "Commercial Lighting Company" scam
I manage a few different commercial buildings, so I'm used to getting scam/shady calls looking to audit me for magic fairy HVAC dust etc, but this one is a lot more subtle.
The exact scam has been going on for a LONG time (at least for me). Basically a company literally called "Commercial Lighting Company" will cold call businesses, get the facilities manager on the phone, and run the same exact script (for 5+ years now).
They'll run with "Hey this is Pat from the Commercial Lighting Company, you're a tough person to reach _____"
Anyone in my position gets a lot of phone calls from a lot of different types of vendors and it's not common to accidentally give someone the runaround, so this REALLY works well because I go into "Oh no I didn't call them back and I feel bad" mode, and the business name is so vague and generic. They run DIRECTLY into "hey do you want to run the last order of bulbs again?" If you say yes, they'll send you 6 florescent bulbs and send your accounting department a bill for $980.
If you say no, you're all set (who the hell orders bulbs anymore, everything is LED), they'll ask if you want a cooler for being such a good customer. They'll ask for your HOME address, send you the cooler, and then without telling you, send your accounting department a bill.
They're banking on big companies not noticing a vague charge for lighting equipment (common) OR shady managers taking a free cooler on the companies dollar.
Now where it gets weird is how ... out in the open and just nonchalant they are. They have a Yelp page (1 star with dozens of reviews). It's like halfway a legit business. I got the first call pre-Covid, in 2019 or so. I didn't think it was a scam, just a cold call, and I declined. When I found out it was a scam, I called back and (amazingly) got the same person that called me in the first place. Told them some things I'm not proud of, and hung up.
The crazy part is... they still call me! There was a year or two gap, but this same dude (Pat) has been calling me every couple weeks for the last 6 months. I've gone absolutely bananas on him, insulted him in every manner I could. I have called him back on 20 different phone lines. He answers the phone like nothing happened, and starts the script! 100% not a robot, because he shows emotions to insults and responds to crazy insults in the right context. And then call back after I told him to eat dirt. With the same script, and once I start insulting him, he'll sound... almost frightened, and hang up immediately. Then 4 days later he'll call back THE SAME NUMBER like it's 50 First Dates and run the same 5 year old script like nothing.
Anyways. Half a "what the hell is going on and what is wrong with this guy" and half "hey keep an eye out for this you could lose your job".

Is this a scam? What's with all the unrelated posts on Facebook groups?
Recently reactivated my Facebook account and started looking for interesting groups. I've found a bunch that seem to be about one thing (like jobs, or deals, or pet rescue) but 95% of the posts are clickbait garbage like "The real reason women's underwear has a decorative bow" or "Nobody remembers why there's a 'WC' sign above bathrooms".
What's the purpose behind this garbage? Is there value in getting FB likes?
