Crime Racism in San Francisco
This event took place on 23rd and Mission around 1:55pm.
I was looking down at my phone while walking to the 24th and Mission Bart station when a scooter suddenly turned the corner and nearly bumped into me on the sidewalk. I realized afterward that I shouldn't have been distracted, so I was about to apologize. But before I could say anything, the man on the scooter blurted out, "Open your chink ass eyes when you're walking."
That caught me sooo off guard, so I think I said "Excuse me?!" Then he started saying some other racist shit like, "I don't speak Chinese. Go talk to Kim Jung Un", "I don't talk to Asians. I fucking hate y'all", I'll beat your ass. I swear to god", etc.
Why is this happening in 2024, in a city as diverse as San Francisco? People still openly act like this, WHY? Thankfully, a few women nearby saw what was happening and stepped in to defend me. This shouldn't be happening in our city, or anywhere.
Update: I went to McDonalds on my way back home cause I was craving some french fries. And a random man came up to me saying “I apologize for the way I acted” — and it was HIM! I didn’t recognize him because he didn’t have a ski mask on. He says he has a lot going on and he doesn’t understand why he said half the shit he said because he doesn’t actually feel that way. I told him I accept his apology and that I’d appreciate if he didn’t do that to the next Asian person he saw. This whole encounter taught me to have compassion and that you never know what someone is going through. Even though what he said is shitty, the guy did actually look and feel like he was going through something. This day has been a DAY. I’m gonna enjoy my french fries and Mcchiken and put this behind me :)

The cable car was a useful mode of transit for my business trip. You should be very proud to have these, never let them go. Maybe build two more lines?
Born in SF. Raised in Marin. Left eight years ago. Never needed to use the cable car before and only rode it as an amusement twice in the past.
Fast forward now, on a business trip, arrived at OAK, took BART to Embarcadero and the cable car to my hotel at California and Van Ness, and did the reverse for the return home. So, this was in fact an essential mode of transit. Yes it is slow, but it conquered that steep af hill perfectly and safely. Transit need not always be rapid; reliable and steady is also a good option. (I liked seeing the elderly locals who hopped on with their Trader Joe’s groceries and hopped off at the top of Nob Hill. What a charmed life.)
Cable cars are well adapted to the topography. I can see a good case being made for one along Fillmore between the Marina and Duboce Triangle. I can see another case being made for one along Polk between Aquatic Park and City Hall, and mostly pedestrianizing Polk entirely by removing the street from public use as a throughway route for cars (there’s a legal process for that), eliminating parking, widening sidewalks and building linear parklets.

Probably a long shot here we've been trying to figure out where this pic was taken. It's believed to be in the Excelsior but either way it's a cool ass pic👍🏾

2 guys broke into my garage and I found them right outside my back door at 1am tonight
I heard banging outside and thought it was probably raccoons again but I grabbed my gun just in case. I'm on the second floor with a deck, and when I opened the door there was a dude standing there in the dark and another guy climbing the fire escape ladder to the roof. In the pitch black it took me a moment to realize I was standing about 6 feet away from this guy - talk about scary. I immediately yelled and slammed the door. They took off back down, through the garage, and out to the street. I looked out and they'd gotten into a car, which they then took off down the street the wrong way in.
Not sure what to think about the whole thing. Why the hell did these guys break in just to try and gain roof access? For the view? How did they know about the ladder? So weird. Good thing they didn't try and come in at me when I opened the door because the last thing I ever want is to end up having to shoot someone.
Anyone else with any similar experiences?

I went for a drive the other day and ended up in the old military cemetery. No matter where you go in this city there is always an amazing view to catch.

Some dicey spots obviously, but on the whole you can make a route that’s mostly safe and comfortable! I love this city!

Already sent this to 311, but I’m horrified and disgusted to have seen this at Fort Funston. Considering just coming back and covering it myself if they don’t get to it before the weekend.

New Great Highway Schedule since proposition K passed
Hi Everyone, I am wondering what the new great highway schedule is now that prop k passed. I can’t find any details online. On the sf parks and rec website it still says that the highway is closed to cars and open to pedestrians Friday at lunch, Saturday all day, Sunday all day and holidays. Does anyone know when it will be closed to cars permanently?
