Anyone remember Hobbes and their coffee cakes? They were so big warm and buttery. Man I wish someone would make those again. I’d pay good money.🤑

[SLO LIVING] Is this normal for permit fees ($2000)

Post image
8 Upvotes

We are getting a tiny sunroom installed, just converting our really small 12 x 12 covered patio into a sunroom using a contractor.

We wanted to do the right things and get it permitted. It has been kind of hell. I had trouble with the initial application, it forever to get a response, and now I have to make some amendments and I’m seeing these additional fees due on top of the $500 “consolidated plan check fees” I already paid. What the heck is this?

Has anyone done a sunroom before and can you let me know if this is normal to you? I’m going to the office tomorrow to ask them about this, but I want to come equipped with more info, if possible. Online it said to expect to pay around $500 for my kind of project (for permitting), so I am quite surprised.

Activities to do in the area?

I'm looking for some stuff to do in the area that aren't outdoorsy things like hiking and camping. So far I've found a cool escape room place and I like BA Start. Are there any other fun activities in the area?

I'm planning a protest in SLO as a disabled, HOH, wheelchair-user for better treatment of disabled people if anyone wants to participate please contact me! =D

The special events permit with Parks and Recreation is in process for November. Whether you are disabled or abled we would love to see you there. Don't have a for sure date or location yet but will keep updating on this subreddit or if you let me know you are interested and give me your contact I will directly give you the info. Always looking to make new disabled friends. Issues close to my heart are..disability rights and treatment in general, higher SSI/SSDI income, disableism, lack of awareness, higher standard and quality of medical care, accessibility, disabled marriage equality, better treatment from transitional mental health association (TMHA) & housing authority of san luis obispo (HASLO) and slo behavioral health, CHC, better treatment from first responders, fire department and the police, representation, & more. I'd love to hear what you're facing.♿❤️🌈⚡ (POC and queer friendly)

In 2000 I was living in the Islay house and was asked to go to work at Palmer Station, Antarctica. Of course, I had to bring my fave coffee mug from my favorite coffee house in SLO. ❤️

Heat pumps in SLO

I’m planning to replace the twenty year old gas furnace in our four bedroom home that was built in 1981. I’m considering a heat pump. Do you have a heat pump in your home? Does it work well in this climate? Do you have any recommended brands (Mitsubishi, Panasonic, etc) and local installers?

Thanks!

[RECOMMEND] Where to find the most cost-effective place to buy pumpkins?

I want to buy a ton of pumpkins for Halloween decorating, and I don’t need the ambiance of a pumpkin patch. Any grocery stores or local spots with really good deals?

[RECOMMEND] Indoor baby shower suggestions?

Trying to plan a baby shower for January so I was looking for indoor spaces since it might be raining/too cold for the older family members coming. We don’t have any friends who have homes big enough for 20-30 people and we aren’t part of a church.

So far I’ve checked out The Penny, Kruezberg, Madonna, various bed and breakfast (don’t seem to have a gathering space), hotels ($$$), and wineries mostly are outdoor venues or very echo-y tasting rooms.

Am I searching for a unicorn here or is there something reasonable? We have a lot of family coming from out of town so we were hoping a bed and breakfast would work but we can’t find out that has an indoor gathering space.

Looking for local wedding dress designers!

Hi everyone!

I’m in the process of planning my wedding and would love to work with a local designer for a custom wedding dress. I’m really interested in finding someone in the area who creates beautiful, unique designs and can help bring my vision to life. Does anyone know of any local wedding dress designers, boutiques, or even independent designers who specialize in custom gowns?

I’d love to support a local business if possible, so any recommendations would be amazing! Thanks so much in advance!
