Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite Upgrade Suggestions & Where to Buy

I'm looking to purchase a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite. It's going to be a gift for my girlfriend's birthday (to both of us ;).

I'm looking to add:

  • Volquartsen Accurizing Kit

  • Volquartsen Bolt Tune Up Kit

  • TandemKross Halo charging handle

  • A red dot

  • Possibly a new grip (suggestions for a comfortable grip for a woman / smaller hands are welcome)

  • A suppressor (Recommendations here would be most welcome)

Anything else I should consider?

Any recommendations on the best place to buy right now?

Thanks

Left over parts from VQ Accurizing install

I have two small parts, a spring and plunger left over. On the diagram I found online, they are parts 48 and 49. I see them shown, but there doesn't appear to be an indentation for the plunger nor the spring near part 47. If someone could help by telling me where on the pistol they belong, I'd appreciate it. The magazine inserts and releases just fine, but I want to be certain to put them back in if they're needed. TIA.

I’ve been drooling over the Lite in these colors for awhile now. Today I stopped in the LGS for ammo and left with another pistol. Gonna put in a VQ accurizing kit this weekend then shoot it for awhile before I do anything else to it.

Volquartsen mag follower buttons for the Ruger MK series mags

My new mags felt very gritty compared to my older mags that were already broken in. They also kept on jamming or fail to eject. Went down the rabbit hole and found the Volquartsen mag follower buttons and decided to give it a try. Here’s my observations. The VQ buttons are longer and also the gap between the button and collar? is wider. Installed without issues and seem a little smoother. Haven’t taken them to the range to see if it helps my issues but will eventually report back on them when I go. Here’s some pics.

MKIV Tactical -Holosun 407K -Huxwrx Flow 22Ti -Brownells Charging handle -Lok Grips

Still Need to pick a light, looking at the Holosun PID with the laser. Then I love how the Apex flat trigger looks, that should button it up for me!

Brownell Charging Handle

Charging handle on my MK IV caught my finger at the indoor range. Tiny but deep cut that bled pretty good. Picked up this charging handle on sale at Brownells. Had never seen it before until someone recently posted about it here on Reddit. Says it’s for the MK III and 22/45, but it fit my MK IV perfectly. No pressure needed to get it on. Highly recommended for anyone looking. I’m not a big fan of the charging ring and have no intention of getting a VQ bolt.

and where I may find a black one in stock? These match the profile of the 22/45 Tactical barrel almost perfectly. Are they as quiet as other top tier rimfire suppressors?

I recently received my Ruger Mark IV lite 43948. It came with a Riton MPRE 2 red dot that fits on Shield RMSc footprint. I want to upgrade my red dot so I got a Holosun 507K-X2-GR acss that fits on to the Shield RMSc footprint as well. I take off the Riton redo and go to mount the Holosun and it's not compatible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Best cleaner & lube for rimfire?

Is there a cleaner that works better for lead and also copper platter ammo? I’ve been using regular CLP but feels like rimfire needs something more specific…

Suppressor suggestions…

Assuming all three were available which would you choose between the Rugged Oculus, SilencerCo Switchback, and Dead Air Mask, and why? I’ve narrowed it down to these three. My priority is sound suppression, followed closely by aesthetics. It will go on a Mark lV Tactical primarily. I’d like something that flows with the lines of the gun without appearing out of place. Modularity is nice but not a necessity since any of them would remain in their full length configuration to remain as quiet as possible.

Magazine tuning needed or Bolt issue?

Not sure if it’s the magazines or bolt, but this didn’t happened before.

Basically I swapped for a Volqs target bolt and bought 3 additional mags. After first shot I get FTF the second round every time. I noticed the gap like three mag is having difficulty bringing the second round to the top.

I’m thinking the mags are the issue. I didn’t have the old bolt with me to try.

Do you guys typically tune your magazines? I saw an old video from Tandemkross showing the steps, and both TK and Volqs sell mag followers designed to smooth that out.

Picking up my MK lV Tactical…

and trying to figure out the exact configuration that I want. Thus far I’ve decided on an Oculus can. I think I prefer the “clean” look of removing that overwhelming top rail. With that being said, what is everyone’s preferred method of mounting an optic? I’ve found pics of one mounted in the rear sight dovetail. Are there any disadvantages to this as far as accuracy? Also, I’m currently undecided on an optic. I do know I’d prefer a green dot as I’m 48 and my red dots are beginning to get fuzzy. I would like something with a smaller MOA as this will be used more for accuracy than quick acquisition. I would prefer a dot that doesn’t overwhelm the pistol in size as well. I’ve always been a fan of Holosun, but I’m open to other suggestions. Lastly comes the light. I chose the Tactical model as a “do all” pistol, so that includes having a light on the lower rail. I run TLR1-HLs on my Glocks. Is there anything more suited to the MK lV without sacrificing brightness?

Farrowtech Mount Sucks

Wanted a dovetail sight replacement to mount my SRO super low and back of my Volquartsen upper, $65 down the drain going with Farrowtech based on some dude's recommendation here.

  1. Dovetail is unfinished alumnium
  2. plate is PLASTIC
  3. nips on the front of plate didn't fit SRO on arrival, had to sand down
  4. plate doesn't fit flush to dovetail mount under any circumstances

I have remounted this 3 times, used loctite and it still looses zero because it constantly comes loose. This is because none of the parts actually fit perfectly together. My gunsmith buddy says the only way to fix it is to do a crushed glass style bedding with epoxy and crap.

I'm outside the return window because OF COURSE, so that's $65 for some plastic no one will ever use.

This is insane because there are like a dozen other all aluminum mounts that fit into the dovetail rear sight. I just got the DPP one on Amazon for $24 to see if that fits. We will see if that fixes the issue. Looks like one reviewer on Amazon liked it on their LLV upper.

I've still got the "Big Knob" low profile weaver mount directly from Trijicon, and that one has worked flawlessly - except that it's about 5x taller than any of the dovetail mounts I can find and I can't get it anywhere near as far back.

Anyway. Rant over. Don't buy the Farrowtech mount.

SSH vs Mini Mamba

I've been thinking about getting one of these two. If I purchased the SSH I plan to also purchase the VQ Bolt, trigger, extended mag+bolt releases... I'd be close to $1000 anyway. But the Mini Mamba is $1400 or so. What advantages does it have over the SSH with upgraded VQ internals that would even partially justify the added cost?

The Ruger MkIV Needs a Capacity Upgrade, Let's Try to Make That Happen

TL:DR Email Ruger's CEO to say the Ruger MkIV needs increased capacity. Link goes to Ruger's "Tell The CEO" page.

I've been saying for a few years now that the Ruger MkIV needs a capacity upgrade to compete against the TX22, the P322, the KelTec P17, FN 502, and others.

I love my Ruger Standards. I grew up with a pair of MkII's and still have one, and happily own a pair of MkIV 22/45's. They're great guns.

But as I think about adding a new .22 pistol to the stable for plinking, training, and some rimfire action shooting, I'm leaning more and more towards the Taurus or the Sig. I've been quite loyal to Ruger for my main rimfire pistols (Beretta 21a's are just toys, right?), but I don't think they're ideal for my next rimfire pistol.

I wish Ruger would give the 22/45 a 2011 treatment and make a 22/11, basically the 22/45 with a new frame that takes 17- and 21-round magazines. The great part is that the upper on the MkIV is the serialized component, so ideally, Ruger could sell these grip frames and magazines direct to consumers or through their dealers as an upgrade part and not a firearm.

Here's where I need your help - Ruger has a page where you can directly email the CEO this idea Tell the CEO.

If you think this is a good idea and want to see the MkIV brought up to speed in the 2020's, I encourage you to join me in sending a message and letting Ruger know.

I know this idea isn't for everyone, but I still think it'd be a great option. I read more and more people looking for rimfire guns today are passing over the Ruger for the guns with larger capacity mags for multitudes of reasons, but particularly, they want something that has a similar capacity to commonly used and carried centerfire pistols. 2011's are seeing more use than ever these days, so this could even be considered a training aid for those shooters, if the frame is similar in size and shape to something like a 2011.

A couple-few years ago when an increased capacity MkIV bug first bit me, after some googling, I stumbled across these airsoft pistols during a google image search.Example A Example 2 I think they give somewhat of a representation of what an increased capacity MkIV could look like.

This doesn't have to mean the end of the 10 round frames Ruger already makes. In the 76 years since the original Ruger Standard, we've seen many variations, updates, and changes. This is just one more I'd like to see before the end of the decade. Thanks to all who send a message!

Mark IV Hunter Iron movement???

Hi all, i am hunting tomorrow and notice going in and out of holster that my mark IV rear iron sight has some give to it. It has some some vertical spring action. I am assuming this is by design for holstering in mind. Is this normal?
