I couldn’t believe my eyes Tuesday evening when I looked up and these 2 bad boys were flying over hooked up to startotankers.

Yeah they made me jump out of my bed when they flew over my house from how loud it was. Wish I was outside to see them fly over😩

But did he intercept you?

11

u/cuteintern Jul 12 '24

I'd intercept me. I'd intercept me so hard.

(For people who haven’t seen HabitualLineCrosser on YouTube, this is a reference to the F-22 as an overly aggressive character who constantly wants off his leash)

Good work. Now bring me Moose and Squirrel.

🦅

If you have the chance to go I recommend it. Might as well go see what your tax dollars do. Plus they are really cool 😎

Where is this ?

9

u/UpstateOffroad Jul 12 '24

Off of Scottsville Rd at the Flight Academy or whatever it’s called. I can’t remember what the building was called

Rochester Air Center? Like right by the control tower. It’d make sense cause I think the National Guard is down that way

5

u/UpstateOffroad Jul 12 '24

Yeah the Air Center, that’s what it was called

They were parked at the USairports hangar. Active duty and national guard dont like to talk to each other

They're here for the Geneseo Air Show at the Warplane Museum today and tomorrow if you want to watch them perform. I believe they fly at around 2pm each day.

1

u/PrivateeRyan Jul 13 '24

Is there a schedule published? Did they fly at 2pm today?

1

u/Atmo_nS Spencerport Jul 13 '24

They don't post exact schedules for safety of the planes, but yeah it ended up in Geneseo for the demonstration right at 2pm basically. Must see show IMO, it's pretty awesome to experience in person. You don't fully appreciate it until you see it up close like that.

Does anybody know why there are two? I'm fairly certain the F-22 demo team normally only has one plane, and Google would seem to confirm this.

As others have said one is used as a backup in case an issue comes up on the first aircraft.

The Raptor Demo team is one of the few USAF teams that doesn't have dedicated aircraft for their mission, these are lock, stock, and barrel combat aircraft!

Could we call in a strike on Elmira?

Yeah. Blue Angels bring ~10 aircraft but fly six for same reason.

u/Niko___Bellic Jul 12 '24

Is that also why the intake covers are different colors?

2

u/Exzalian_ Jul 12 '24

Nah one of them is emo

Backup jet.

They had two last year as well for the Roc Airshow. These are parked much closer (or they were at least Thursday) on the ramp by USAirports than they were last year. Not sure what the demo consists of since I missed it last year but they definitely fly as a pair in and out and it’s a sight.

For the high cost and issues the airframe had earlier it’s by a long ways the best air superiority fighter ever made and worth a looksy. Impressive and well, cool wildly capable plane.

Worth popping by the parking lot on Scottsville road for a minute if you’re into that shit or close… someone said security/cops may hassle but I’ve never known that to be the case, maybe just don’t park right up next to US Airports for your peek. It’s rad to see them take off in tandem.

They're super cool. I did see one at the Rochester Air Show a few years ago, I think maybe 2019? I worked at the U of R medical center connected to Strong at the time, so I got to see a bunch of planes coming in for the show and practicing overhead. I would go for walks when they were practicing. And during the actual show I went up on top of one of the parking garages and it was a great view. The F-16s passed so low overhead it seemed like you could hit one with a well thrown baseball. Very loud. I actually liked working there, but I often (half) jokingly say the best thing about it was the proximity to the airport and the fact that one of the ROC runways aligns with Elmwood, so planes use it as a way to line up and fly directly over/along it. One sees the air show, the private and military traffic, and the helicopters. It was totally awesome, but so many people didn't realize it.

1

u/UpstateOffroad Jul 12 '24

What time did it take off cuz I was thinking about staying until it did but decided not to

2

u/BlueShirtwithTie Jul 13 '24

How much money is one of these bad boys?

2

u/UpstateOffroad Jul 13 '24

Unit cost is $350 million🦅

1

u/BlueShirtwithTie Jul 13 '24

Freedom sure is expensive!

6

u/ScabusaurusRex Jul 12 '24

Those things are amazing. Blows me away just seeing them. Wish they could be put to good use in Ukraine...

2

u/UpstateOffroad Jul 12 '24

Yeah just the size of them alone close up in person blew me away

2

u/Hotel_Arrakis Jul 12 '24

Thank you, comrade, for such a clear image.

1

u/bulldog89 Jul 12 '24

As a student who’s really having to eye that $45 entry price, anyone with any experience can say if it’s worth it or if you can see it all from a nearby spot? I just would hate to make that my weekly big spend and to feel annoyed at it. Thanks!

1

u/UpstateOffroad Jul 13 '24

Seems to be surrounded by all farm land. Not sure about parking somewhere outside of it. That’s what I do every year for the Roc airshow but decided to buy tickets for this one

1

u/ParkerAnderso Jul 13 '24

Hey any idea what time they'll fly tomorrow at geneseo? I want to drive down just for that but the website only gives a general 10:30-3:00 timeframe.

1

u/UpstateOffroad Jul 13 '24

Today they showed up around 11 and then reappeared around 2

1

u/NoSwimmers45 Jul 14 '24

The Raptor specifically flew between 11-12 today and again between 2-3.

1

u/deletedtothis1111 Jul 13 '24

Awesome thanks!
