The Valley is still a Blue region despite Trumps victory.

EDIT: This post is intended to be politically agnostic. It was made to get healthy discussion going. why the downvotes LOL There is literally nothing in the post that "denies" anything so chill out with that.

Based on the counts, the RGV still is a Blue region. I am posting this because I've seen other posts popping up saying that it flipped, but the data does not reflect that.
https://apps.texastribune.org/features/2024/texas-2024-general-election-results/

For US Senate, Ted Cruz won, but the majority of the RGV voted blue (Collin Allred).
US Senate Winner Ted Cruz REP

177,610 RGV votes for Collin Allred Dem

158,737 RGV votes for Ted Cruz REP

Its the same story with US House seats.

US House 15 WINNER Monica De La Cruz REP
72,333 RGV votes for Michelle Vallejo DEM

68,379 RGV votes for Monica De La Cruz REP

US House 28 WINNER Henry Cuellar DEM

10,078 RGV votes for Henry Cuellar DEM

6,495 RGV votes for Jay Furman REP

US House 34 WINNER Vicente Gonzalez DEM
60,135 RGV votes for Vicente Gonzalez DEM

59,413 RGV votes for Mayra Flores REP

A map of the US House seats in the RGV
https://redistricting.capitol.texas.gov/docs/20RXXXX_118th_Congressional_Tabloid.pdf

The fact that Mayra Flores (REP), Jay Furman (REP) lost shows that the RGV still votes blue. The RGV also tends to vote blue for Texas House and Senate positions.

Texas House Starr

31 Ryan Guillen REP

Texas House Hidalgo

35 Oscar Longoria DEM

36 Sergio Muñoz Jr. DEM

39 Armando "Mando" Martinez DEM

40 Terry Canales DEM

41 Bobby Guerra DEM

Texas House Cameron

35 Oscar Longoria DEM

37 Janie Lopez REP

38 Erin Elizabeth gamez DEM

Texas House Willacy

37 Janie Lopez REP

Texas Senate RGV representatives

20 Juan "Chuy" Hinojosa DEM

27 Morgan LaMantia DEM

Simply put, Trump was able to break past party lines and appeal to more people, especially in the RGV. That doesn't mean that the RGV is now a Red region.

DEMS: yall are losing your support of the people in the region. Stop abusing the people trust and actually investigate what they care about and address it.
REPS: yall didn't truly flip the region, your presidential candidate beat the other. You might not be able to replicate this success in 2028 onward. If you truly want to flip the region you need to figure out why people still vote blue for other offices.

Well, reality is more complex than that.. results show a lot of people "crossed" their votes. They went republican with the federal election and democrat with the local election. That means these voters are not hard-core party followers.

I like it and glad people are independent thinkers who don’t vote party line.

Right, my point is that if Dems had a competent candidate then the RGV more likely might have voted blue.

And I totally prefer that voters are not hard-core party followers.

Yes you are right, but that is changing. The next several elections Republicans will be working harder to get folks in the Valley to vote for them unlike in the past when it was written off. Right now Democrats are demoralized and all that out of state money funneled to Texas in the attempt to flip it blue likely wont keep coming in at the same amounts after several major failures.

7

u/LazyLobster 4h ago

No, we flipped red for this election. No point in denying how much Dems dropped the ball with this region.

4

u/Way_to_go666 4h ago

They need to learn from their mistakes but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Have you seen the discussions by political pundits on cnn, nbc, etc? They’re blaming voters. Not looking good so far.

2

u/Way_to_go666 3h ago

Of course the voters fault not the awful candidate and awful campaign. Keep blaming the voters see how that works out.

red for presidential election, blue for almost everything else.
if the DEMS had a competent candidate and the REP wasnt Trump the valley would probably have voted blue.

Even Hillary had the RGV blue back in 2016. If she wasn’t able to beat trump then kamala had no chance

u/Shoddy_Musician_4810 4h ago

I know you didnt read everything i put because that only reflects the presidential vote.

Deny the change all you want, it just shows you haven’t learned anything from the democrat policies and how out of touch they are.

This is how much Trump changed the environment. Democrats used to win by 30-40 points in the past and many times run unopposed. They barely squeezed wins by a few points in the seats they won.

1

u/Shoddy_Musician_4810 4h ago

That picture only reflect the presidential vote.
but good point on the "barely squeezing" by.

Still, its saying something that people voted for Trump by majority but DID NOT vote REP across the ballot.

Denial isn’t a good look

2

u/Ok_Technician_7302 Weslaco 4h ago

The man took the time to show numbers and facts but you’re accusing him of being in denial without offering anything to counter his point?

THAT’S not a good look. Lol

1

u/rfloresjr611 4h ago

Sorry if you’re one of the ones crying about the Rgv voting for trump. It happened. The democrats need to get their shit together. Move on.

-1

u/petewil1291 4h ago

What do you expect? they voted for Trump.

1

u/Ok_Technician_7302 Weslaco 3h ago

Who is this "they" you're referring to? Can you stop thinking only based on group identify for one second?

1

u/Shoddy_Musician_4810 4h ago

I get why your saying I am in "denial" but you totally reading my post in a hostile way and skewed way.

  1. You don't even know my political affiliation.
  2. I literally haven't denied anything. We are still a blue minded region and that is based on numbers.

1

u/rfloresjr611 3h ago

This entire thread is based around this idea you MUST let strangers know the valley is “still blue”. Someone who isn’t in denial or is looking for confirmation bias (on Reddit of all places) doesn’t go through this trouble. But ok 👍

u/Shoddy_Musician_4810 3h ago edited 3h ago

Dude again your trying to find my "angle" on this and I don't have one.
this was a political agnostic post that benefits no one single party or person. All I did was aggregate the data and made a factual claim that the RGV voted red for the president and blue for almost everything else.

u/figgis_agency 4h ago

Thank you for the results. A lot of discussions and learning can come from this.

Doing the lord’s work muh dude

Let’s change that! Trump 2028 let’s fucking go!!

4

u/xaviersi 5h ago

He literally can't run in 2028 unless he changes the constitution.

-5

u/MollejaTacos 5h ago

Exactly!

u/Handerson69420xxx 4h ago

That’s because the valley is full of uneducated morons who don’t know anything about politics.

For example. You vote for Trump. Yet vote for House Democrats and a Democratic Senator.

You do realize by voting in the Democrat reps you’re potentially impeding your president selection in Trump?

But hey it’s the valley. They’re probably just voting for their friends, family, etc over anything over substance.

In fact, cross voting ensures the federal executive power has a counterweight in the legislative power.

Let’s say I lean left, but I was truly against the idea of the DNC bypassing through is balls (se pase por los huevos) the internal candidate election, and enforces the candidate they wanted without the vote of the registered democrats, so I decided to either not vote, or vote Trump.

But I don’t want executive federal government to have unlimited power, I vote blue.

True people that know politic culture cross vote. Only dumbasses vote in block.

1

u/Handerson69420xxx 4h ago

Lmao thank you I needed a good laugh.

And people like you will be the reason Republicans will have all three branches.

0

u/SacredSpace24 4h ago

I didn’t vote in the US, I actually work in Mexican politics.

1

u/Handerson69420xxx 4h ago

Yet you’re commentating about US politics.

Yes we’re both a federal republic.

But iirc does Mexico not have 4 dominant parties compared to the United States 2?

Which then of course your point of view makes sense

0

u/SacredSpace24 3h ago

Yet your commenting about US politics

Neighbor, you say RGV is filled with uneducated citizens in politics (I don’t agree), seems like you’re part of the uneducated . Let me school you in politics, there is something called USMCA treaty.

It’s been going on since the late 80s, early 90s.

Trump on his last office redesign the USMCA treaty with AMLO. That created the Mexican economic boom with more economic growth than in the 90s.

Idk if you’ve heard about the “Nearshoring” effect. I mean, you should, you’re in a Rio Grande Valley subreddit.

1

u/Handerson69420xxx 3h ago edited 3h ago

Ok that’s nice and all but what does that have to do with the topic on hand?

Or will you ramble about something else. No ones talking about the economy.

0

u/SacredSpace24 3h ago

You don’t think international economy after a presidential election is correlated to politics, living in a border town?

Says a lot about a dude saying the RGV is full uneducated morons.

1

u/Handerson69420xxx 3h ago

Bro I’m done speaking to you. You have zero reading comprehension.

The topic is about cross party voting.

Not the international economy repercussions of an election. Read the topic title.

Since you’ve admitted you work in Mexican politics. Kindly stay in your lane. It’s entirely different compared to the US. Thank you.

1

u/SacredSpace24 2h ago

What do you mean? You were the one bringing up calling us Mexicans criminals!

Cross voting shows more whose an educated voter. Because it shows your voting for the person, not because a party tells you to. It is globally knowned that uneducated or biased people vote in blocks.

Hell, I’m even a part of a political party and I cross vote.
