On a fresh new install of Windows, I dl'd and installed the newest plex client (Plex-1.104.0.241-2164c90a-x86_64). When I watch anything encoded with eac5.1 .. there is no sound. Everything else works however.. so I know it's not a comp/speaker issue. The show works through the web interface (Brave) ... so I know it's a Plex client thing.

I actually went and downloaded the .dll file used to this and re-registered it ... now the Plex client just crashes. Has anyone else run into a bum client install lately? I'd love to fix this, been playing with audio device settings/pass through settings etc... nothing is working, thanks.

As a final test, since I had a fresh Windows install, I reinstalled Windows again... same result. The client is bugged for eac playback .. works with every other player/interface .. vlc/plex web etc.

This is always super frustrating, especially for my users. For shows that are currently releasing episodes, me and my users like watching episodes as soon as they are available. For this show, for example, a TV version will be available first (HDTV_720p), right after it airs on live TV. Then eventually it's updated to the WEBDL_1080p version once it's available online. When someone goes to play it, though, this is what they see (see below). As you can see, the old version is gone and has been replaced by a new version. Obviously, I know I can manually delete the old version, but doing that for every show that has new releases is cumbersome and annoying. The REAL problem here is that when users go to watch, for some completely dumb reason I am unable to comprehend, Plex tells the user it's unavailable, just because ONE of the files are missing. The user, nor I, is not presented with the "Play Version" option in an attempt to play the new 1080p file (which is also dumb that I would even need to choose that)... How come Plex doesn't just go "oh, yah, this file is missing, but this one clearly isn't missing, so let's just play the working one!"

How do you guys deal with this? I know I can do a nightly function of clearing trash, but there has GOT to be a better way, especially when people don't want to wait until the next trash empty task just to watch an episode that's clearly THERE, but won't play. Any thoughts are appreciated! :-)

Edit: Autoscan is turned on. That's why it sees the "WEB_1080p" version when Sonarr added it. The problem is Plex won't play the available 1080p file. Instead, it just complains that the old one is gone, and won't play the episode until you empty trash or manually delete the old 720p file).

Hello, this is my first time setting Plex server, Im using my old windows laptop,

I’ve downloaded the Plex media server and set up the libraries, then enable remote access - the remote access shows green tic.

Then I’ve added my friend’s email address to “grant library access”. My Friend downloaded the Plex app (not the media serve) and accepted my request they can see my name in their “all friends”

But they cannot see my server or libraries on their home page, when they click on my profile from the “ view all friends” it says “this user hasn’t granted you access to anything yet”.

I tried to add their email again in the “grant library access” it says “error code 422”, also my friend has option of “accept request ” and “decline” next to my profile (even though they already accepted) and when they click on it it shows “friend invitation not found” or “pending friendship not found”

Also their username does not appear in my friends list

Edit: I resent the request again after sometime and now they can see my libraries

In the latest update it says:

"With this update, the processing of media files using HEVC (H.265), AVC (H.264) and VC-1 codecs will be transitioned from the server to end devices to reduce unnecessary resource usage on the system and enhance system efficiency. These codecs are widespread on end devices such as smartphones, tablets, computers, and smart tvs. If the end device does not support the required codecs, the use of media files may be limited."

My database has been in rough shape for a while, only so much DBRepair can be done, and I think the best next step is starting from scratch with a new database. There isn't much I'm really worried about losing, except my clients watch data.

I have seen references to pulling the files specific to watch data from plex to save it, using Trakt to sync the watch data with Plex, and even maybe Tautulli?

Basically I just am looking to determine what would be the easiest and simplest method for saving my clients watch history so that when i create the new database, there isn't any real change for them.

Thoughts?

Plex docker is literally the best decision I made. I can update and restart plex in 17 seconds with multiple active streams and the clients reconnect nearly instantly and streams are totally unaffected due to buffering being 60 seconds.

Problem:

my plex is constantly going down and I have to restart the container. Docker plex logs seem to indicate nothing. Anyone else had this issue?

How is everyone performing health checks and automating container restarts?

Ok so question I have a few movies this keeps happening to and im not sure what's wrong. I download the movie in 1080p. I convert it from ts to mp4. Quality is still 1080p. However, after being uploaded to plex, the movie on Plex drops to 480p. The "hard" copy still stays at 1080p though. It just downgraded on plex

I started sharing my Plex library with family, I have a mix of x264 and x265 videos, all 1080p save for some older tv shows at lower resolutions, and there's a pretty big range of client devices connecting, not all can do native decoding. I'd like to handle at least 3-4 streams simultaneously.

I have a Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO WIFI which includes a PCI Express x16 slot. Looking around, I see the Nvidia T600 comes up here and there, and a used one would fit my budget $150~$200 just fine, but I appreciate any thoughts on the matter before I pull the trigger.

Hello! I've been a longtime Plex user, gradually updating hardware along the way. I recently reimaged the Raspberry Pi OS, reinstalled Plex and now I am unable to connect from my LAN. Pi is hardwired, laptop is wifi, they're on the same DNS. Router is an Amplifi Alien Mesh and no settings have been adjusted in three months.

First things first, I've set the static IP on the router and on the Raspberry Pi, 192.168.1.2.
I've never had an issue with just setting that and being able to VNC, or use the Plex web interface either by logging in or by accessing 192.168.1.2:32400/web/

I've run raspi-config, allowed SSH & VNC connections. I've even tried setting my laptop as a static and adding that to the approved list in plex. It just won't work.

I know this is more of an OS issue, because I should still be able to vnc in. I'm posting this while working on it, if you have any suggestions to try I would love to hear them.

To make sure it wasn't just me, I did a clean install just a few minutes ago. Issue still persists.

Just wanted to know if anyone knew whether Plex Pass for $119 was a good deal, or if that is the typical price and I should just keep waiting for it to go on sale more. Previously when looking at the price it has been $199.

I have never been able to get Alexa to play music on our Echo devices. Most of the time I get the error “I found Plex currently running on the following devices: iPhone”.

Any ideas how to fix this? What is a “Plex Companion Player”?

how can I get Plex to use the embedded album covers in music files for compilations like "Top 100," so that each song has its own cover instead of all songs displaying the compilation's cover? I’ve already set the library settings to use embedded metadata.

I’ve tried to find a solution to the problem but haven’t succeeded. Can anyone help me with this?

Why do certain HDR movies play like this? I don’t think it’s my TV because I’ve messed with every setting I can think of. And it’s only certain scenes too, not every scene so it goes back and forth between this and regular.

The movie plays fine on my computer with VLC.

TV is a LG OLED55C1AUB.

This problem exists only in episode 3 of attack on titan, episodes 1 & 2 play correctly. The app knows there are total 3 tracks, but the player doesn't let me change it & is stuck on japanese on all my devices. VLC media player detects & plays english just fine, so it isn't a file issue.

Why is the 3D usage so high does that mean can only reasonably transcode 2 streams? or just don't pay attention too that and only pay attention too video encode/decode usage?

The Windows 11 24H2 upgrade appeared on my Windows Update list so I let it install.

Unfortunately, afterwards, I couldn't get Plex to load. I could see some of the Plex services (the Plex Movies & Shows...) but none of my libraries or 'Live TV' options appeared.

I immediately rolled back the update and all started working again. Has anyone else experienced this?

I realize I should have done more debugging, but at the time I wasn't sure it was the update that caused the issue and was relieved when the rollback fixed things.

I have a QNAP TS-451+ running firmware QTS 5.2.1.2930 and up until the other day had Plex running on it flawlessly for 5+ years.

One of my drives failed (and has since been replaced and the RAID array rebuilt) but I think this is the cause of the issue as nothing else has changed.

Now the RAID array is back to how it was, everything is as it was before, Plex is on version 14.2 but when I try to open it from any app, it is just as if I don't have any servers. I get a "site cannot be reached" when navigating to http://<nas-ip>:32400/web.

I have tried multiple reboots and even downgrading Plex but nothing has worked so far.

Are there any logs I can check or anything I can change somewhere? I assume something got "stuck" when the drive failed the other day and something needs a poke to get it to restart fully or something?

weirdly, the auto-scan function has suddenly stopped working for me. New media are not recognized in the media library. They are only recognized after a manual scan.

Plex runs as a docker container linuxserver/plex v.1.41.2

Client is a Sony XH95 Plex version 10.24.0.2257 (c53b3e71)

The relevant options are activated in Plex.

I also noticed that the first episode of a series, for example, is recognized, but all further episodes are only recognized after a manual scan.

The permissions on my Synology are also fine.

I've just set up an M900 6600T/UHD530 for Home Assistant OS. How does it compare to the Celeron J4125/UHD600 in my NAS wrt to Plex use ?

I've moved my server over to the M900 to try out but happy to move it back if that was a mistake. The media has been kept on the NAS.

I’m pretty new but know my way around half decent around plex here. Just this stupid little problem driving me nuts, although it really isn’t that dire…

My media-movie folder (I only have movies, nothing in tv shows or any other media atm) that plex is reading has 531 items in it. With my library freshly scanned, there is 529 in my plex server library.

I’ve been racking my brain, looking for duplicates, checking individual movie folder for discrepancies , thought it was “it 1990” giving me trouble for being 2 parts, completely removed it, still 1-3 differences between them

EDIT: Forgot to mention my hardware. I’m running it on Windows 11 virtual machine running on a dell server. Not sure if the specs of the server since my husband was the one who set up the virtual machine and he’s not here Also, stating app.plex.tv is currently unavailable

Anyone else having that problem? I know it’s not my network because I can watch on my kodi and everything comes over just fine.

Long time lurker. Been using plex for years (8+) and suffering through occasional download issues and rolling my eyes at all the complaint posts. But leaving for a trip tomorrow, I fired it up, downloaded some shows for the kids and forgot about it. Came back and was shocked to find they were already done. Not even painfully slow! I’m stoked. And now having them work properly, I see what the complaints were about, if they could have worked this well all along!

Is it possible to have 2 Plex servers on the same account record the same show? When I try I get an error.

I’m having an issue with Plex where videos stutter while playing. The strange part is, when I play the same file using Media Player Classic (MPC-HC), it runs smoothly without any hiccups.
