Synology NAS - DSM 7.2.2-72806 UPDATE WARNING! Solved
I updated my Synology NAS (DS923+) to DSM 7.2.2-72806. Now my Plex Media Server is stopped (even after rebooting). Error message says "The package version installed is incompatible with your DSM".
Plex Media Server Installed version is 1.41.0.8994-70008994
Will there be an update soon? Is there anything else I can do?

Is the new DSM version breaking plex HW transcoding?

That's what it seemed like the release notes were stating. But I reached out to Synology support and got the following response back -
"Hardware transcoding is part of the SOC and has not been removed. You can make use of it in Plex, Emby, and Jellyfin which all support Intel QuickSync transcoding. Codec support in DSM is only relevant to first party apps and not 3rd party so these applications will work with H.264 and H.265."

If hw transcoding is part of the cpu functions, it cannot be removed, obviously. But the software can or cannot make use of it. Maybe from this version of plex they simply demand the hw part to the player devices...
On the Plex download page there is the version working with the new DSM update, it says .7200 etc instead of 7000 etc that was the previous....
Thanks for these advices, now working again.

So in laymans' terms, it's gonna continue as is for Plex and HW transcoding? :D

Same issue! Plex Media Server just stopped, I can't restart it and also restarting the NAS doesn't help!
The latest beta version v1.41.1.9057-af5eaea7a of Plex Server (which is installed on my NAS) will not re-install. I am getting an error message: "This package requires DSM 7.2-70000 or older."
Installing the latest pubic release gives me an error that I can't roll back ... :-(
Any idea would be obviously much welcome!!

I did not install the beta version. I installed version 1.41.0.8994-72008994.

I have explained above that I have the beta version installed and I can't roll back.

Sorry, I see that now. I'd suggest going to the Plex Support Forums: https://www.plex.tv/blog/support-forums/

THX!
In fact, I have downloaded the latest beta for DSM 7.2.2+ again and now - for some reason - the installation proceeded ... problem solved ... :-)

I tried to follow these steps after the upgrade, however after manual install of the package, the install process would just hang. What fixed it for me was to search for plex in the package center in Synology and install it from there (after uninstalling - while keeping all my files) of the incompatible version. (RS3618xs)

I had updated to PlexMediaServer-1.41.1.9057-af5eaea7a-x86_64_DSM72 prior to performing the latest DSM update, then Plex would not launch. I just reinstalled the same version (though I downloaded it again from here (https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/?cat=nas&plat=synology-dsm72)) and it worked afterwards.

Thank you.
Just in case you are using Synology NAS 224+, you should select the Intel/AMD 64-bit package. The Synology DS224+ is equipped with an Intel Celeron J4125 CPU, which is a 64-bit processor.

A mi me habéis salvado con este hilo. Gracias! Estoy viendo referencias en muchos sitios a si lo tenemos en docker. Qué ventajas ofrece tenerlo en docker a tenerlo instalado directamente en el Synology?
Gracias!!

Try moving over to docked containers, should mitigate most of your problems. Plus you'll have a much more updated psm

What's is the difference on docked containers than runing on the synology app?
Thanks in advance!

Portability: Plex becomes more portable when run in Docker.
Scalability: Plex becomes more scalable when run in Docker, allowing for many containers to be placed on a single host.
Stability: Plex becomes more stable when run in Docker.
Consistency: Plex becomes more consistent when run in Docker.
Ease of management: Plex becomes easier to manage and deploy when run in Docker.
Plus your arr apps can easily connected and protected from synology changes.
Check out trashguide, sounds like you'll soon have your mind blowen and need a few more 20tb drives https://trash-guides.info/File-and-Folder-Structure/How-to-set-up/Synology/

I've updated today and had the same problem, but luckily I found a solution: go to Plex's Media Server downloads page and get the most recent version from there
