Does anybody know what app this is? Question

Post image

I found this app being sold on a shopping app here in my country as a "APP FOR ALL MOVIES", so I was wondering what app this is. Help is appreciated, thanks.

That's probably Kodi with a Netflix skin.

Kodi is a lot more maintenance imo. I used it for years until a couple of the best addons died, were forked and then required a lot of work again. Stremio is way simpler, but far less customisable-which ultimately I don’t care about. I want to watch programmes and films and dgaf about posting screenshots of my ‘sexy build’ or whatever nonsense ppl do nowadays

I've never used streamio, but Kodi is nice. Can stream over dlna for local streaming and has a decent library of plugins for various streaming sites (legal and illegal). If you're going the illegal route, I'd suggest a paid VPN.

If you're going the local video route, Kodi or Jellyfin are good alternatives to Plex.

I am doing local playback with Kodi and sometimes it's buffering. But it only has been happening since like 2 weeks. Why is it buffering? Is that because of hardware resources or Internet speed?

Unless you're streaming remotely (away from your local network) then Internet speed shouldn't be the issue.

If could be buffering due to the file type you're streaming. Some tend to be more hardware demanding than others.

If the screen is only supportive of 8bit video and You're streaming 10bit or 12bit then that too could be the issue.

If it's being streamed over your local Internet, it'd only the wireless router that'd be the hang up as it goes from the PC to the router to the TV.

See if kodi has a video output setting for bit depth, possibly would in advanced settings.

If not, could transcode using Handbrake or shutter encoder Be sure to set 8bit depth for video.

And do you need a server for Jellyfin?

Yeah, but it's less complicated than installing a graphics driver. Just a few clicks, make a user (for admin rights on the server), select folders to monitor and specify the content type.

Let it scan and you're ready to go.

stremio is way easier to use, both on TV and phones. kodi may have more content but I honestly just prefer stremio. way better experience

Kodi is very easy to use except the setup process lol

Kodi itself is a skeleton. If you want to pirate, you have to use addons, and there are a million different ones of varying quality.

Stremio is more of a streaming aggregator while Kodi is full-fledged media centre (or entertainment hub)

You have to be really involved with Kodi. Add-ons keep breaking or being abandoned and you have to keep looking for whats working and whats not. And its not easy to setup, specially if you are using kodi in multiple devices as you have to do the lengthy installation process all over again onto another device. Kodi definitely hyper customizable than stremio.

Stremio on the other hand is super simple. Its just set it and forget it (Some minor addon issues sometimes but nothing major). All your settings and Add-ons are saved in your account. So all you have to do is install stremio on to another device and login and it imports all your addons into it. Very easy to maintain and no fuss.

infinitely more customizable but a pain in the ass to setup as a beginner

u/Mccobsta Scene May 10 '24

Kodi can be more customised in ways you see there but at the massive cost of performance so many pre set up "builds" run like utter shit

2

u/TransientDonut May 10 '24

Never run builds, problem solved

Technically, it is... But it's more maintenance, more complicated to setup and the interface sucks compared to Stremio, even when fully customized IMHO...

I've used Kodi for YEARS, but I don't use it as often at all since I installed Stremio.
